    This seemingly simply animated movie with it's hauntingly beautiful tunes has impacted my life in ways I can't even verbalize. My favorite moment is when Bilbo climbs the tree and upon seeing the sunshine & butterflies says, "There are moments which can change a person for all time, and I suddenly wondered if I would ever see my snug hobbit hole again. I wondered if I actually wanted to". I weep every time I see that scene. The greatest adventure REALLY IS what lies ahead.

      Of course this version sums up everything the book intended, it had the basic topics
      A quest
      Riddles in the dark
      The encounter with the Eleven king
      The encounter with Smug
      The final battle
      The end of the quest.

      Because it's not retconned like the Jackson films, it's an adaptation of the book as it was originally published, and a very good one in my opinion.

    I remember the night this cartoon aired back in 1977. I was 7 years old, and I transformed my room into a little hobbit hole. I crafted a little wooden sword, made a pipe out of a Tinkertoy set I had, and made a ring out of Reynolds wrap. What fun that was, in a much better, simpler time.

      Alex, I like the cartoon better, but I liked the movie also. I was disappointed that the movie didn't have things that the animation had. But the cartoon is only an hour long. This cartoon will always be number one for me, guess because I grew up with it. =)

    • @Fck-Iran
      @Fck-Iran 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      alex laxson No, I didn't know that, but I can see why. I haven't read the book in years, I think a year after this cartoon came out is when I last read it. The part what disappointed me in the film was the large white orc. I cant remember if that large white orc was in the book or not? In my opinion, that made the movie too war-like, too much like LOTR, and not the adventure that the book was and also this cartoon. I loved LOTR, but that was supposed to be all war, battles, and extreme hardships. The Hobbit should have not been like that, at least not that I remember from reading. What are your thoughts on that?

    • @SuperFlashDriver
      @SuperFlashDriver 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Funny because my first exposure with the Hobbit was actually this cartoon, and I loved the music, the animation, and the story. Became my favorite that I almost forgot about this movie when I was in middle school. Came back to it in 12th grad to see that I still remember watching this when I was just 5 years old.

    • @Indurok
      @Indurok 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I've watched this movie so many times, I could literally act out the entire film right now. My dad had a ring that he gave me, which I pretended was the ring from The Hobbit. It was a pretty good shape for it. And I would--and still do once in a while--listen to that goblin song over and over again.

      @Kiara Thompson It's supposed to hurt. That's the point. People who live their lives too deeply into fictional stories are missing something. They want the adventure without the danger. Their heroes aren't real. It's only fitting Tolkien wrote The Hobbit due to boredom, and that the very word "Hobbit" is rooted in the word "Habit", as in a daily habit doing the same thing over and over.

      @Boom
      As I see it, the problem is that people need to be given a reason to endure the pains of real life; some accomplishment that can be reached by doing so, and which is worth the struggle, and these days, people seem to see any such reason as the only thing worse than the pain itself. As long as they have that perspective, they *can't justify* facing reality in any consistent way, and that's sad, sad stuff.
      P.S.: Speaking personally, as someone with too much passion to sit back and live my life in a fantasy world; as someone who went out to face my life and confront my challenges, I can assure you that the rewards offered by the world *are not* adequate to make up for the pain, challenge, loss or futility, so there must be something more.

    Lyrics if anyone wants to sing along:
    A great adventure is waiting for you ahead
    Hurry onward Lemmiwinks, for you will soon be dead
    The journey before you may be long and filled with woe
    But you must escape the gay man's ass, or your tale can't be told
    Lemmiwinks, Lemmiwinks, Lemmiwinks, Lemmiwinks
    Lemmiwink's journey is distant, far and vast
    To find his way out of a gay man's ass
    The road ahead is filled with danger and fright
    But push onward, Lemmiwinks, with all of your might
    Lemmiwinks, you are coming to the enterance of the small intenstines. There, you must seek out the sparrow prince.
    [Verse 3]
    The Sparrow Prince lies somewhere way up ahead
    Don't look back Lemmiwinks, or you will soon be dead
    Lemmiwinks, Lemmiwinks, the time is growing late
    Slow down now, and seal your fate
    I am the sparrow prince, long has my spirit been trapped in this place. Before you lies the maze of the small intestines. One path leads to the stomach, the other, to certain doom. Take with you this helmet and torch, let them be your guide.
    Take the magic helmet-torch to help you light the way
    There's still a lot of ground to cross inside the man so gay
    Ahead of you lies adventure, and your strength still lies within
    Freedom from the ass of doom is the treasure you will win
    Lemmiwinks came to the stomach dark
    Near the depths of the lungs and heart
    You choose your path wisely Lemmiwinks, I am the Catatafish.
    (The catatafish of the stomach's cove)
    If you answer this riddle, the esophogous will let you pass.
    (Catatafish's riddle will soon be told)
    Hang on Lemmiwinks, you solved the Catatafish's riddle, now your trials are nearly through!
    Lemmiwinks has made it out, his tale is nearly through
    Great job Lemmiwinks, thanks to you we are all free.
    But your adventures are just beginning, for you are no ordinary gerbil Lemmiwinks, you are the gerbil king.
    All hail the gerbil king!
    Now that you're the Gerbil king has more adventures to go on
    Fly away to faraway lands and to the setting sun!
    There are still so many enemies and battles yet to fight
    For Lemmiwinks the Gerbil King's tale is told throughout the night
    Lemmi-Lemmi-Lemmiwinks
    Le-Lemmiwinks, Lemmiwinks
    Le-Le-Lemmiwinks
    Lemmiwinks, Lemmiwinks, Lemmiwinks, Lemmiwinks
    Gerbil King

    The Hobbit ... a novel anyone should read and read again in this particular historical time, in these own days. The Hobbit is a great novel, maybe the truliest and greatest, about the war; the madness of course, the horror of course, egoism of men and dwarfs ... but at the same time the tremendous and enormous humanity, a kind of mad and authentic sweetness and innocence making or, better, playing war. About this, the hobbit could surely be considered one of greatest ever imagined

    What a wonderful movie this is. Ever since I saw it in middle school way back in 2007, the film looked UGLY to me but it was ugly in a way that caught my attention and kept me invested in the story. Not to mention these beautiful vocal songs by Glenn Yarbrough. Simply an enchanting and beautiful listen. Most people tend to think of their holiday stop motion specials such as Rudolph and Frosty but when I think of Rankin/Bass their hand drawn fantasy adaptions such as these LOTR specials and The Last Unicorn will always be the first things I think of.
    A special thank you and RIP to the many artists and creatives who made this special a reality including Mr. Arthur Rankin Jr who died in 2014 and (as of this typing) the unfortunate passing of Mr. Jules Bass who’s death was announced today on October 25, 2022.
    Thank you and sleep well dreamers…
