  • I could write a pretty extensive description on this 1978 Buick Riviera Junkyard Find that's for sale but I think I'll just let the video show it. This is the last of the rear wheel drive Rivs and this one it's a pretty decent example of a survivor. Not the nicest but with a little clean up along with some light bodywork and paint it could look really sharp. I think the price wasn't too bad for what it was but I'll curious to know what you all think.

    I spent $2500 to get my '68 Electra and she was worth it. I could justify spending $2000 for this and wrenching on it to make it right. You've got a good eye for these hidden-in-plain-sight Boulevard cruisers 👍

    Front-wheel drive or not, the '79-'85 Riv was a much more prestigious and distinctive car than this.
    They were much talked-about when introduced, unlike these. The special model you are thinking of

      Hey ! Benny I like your videos and your commentary on the vehicle's that you do on but I remember when those Riviera's came out at the same time when the LeSabre came out the two door LeSabre looked completely Identical to each other with the same body styling the only big difference was the grills , taillights , and the side window the riv had a smaller window compared to the larger sized window on the LeSabre and saw the two parked next to each other in a grocery store parking lot and both had the same length measurement on them and if I am wrong GM sales didn't do good on them during those 2 years of 77 , 78 they said customer's did not like the fact that it was to much of a 2 door LeSabre with just extra extra options added to it wearing the Riviera's name and badge so it was basically based off from the LeSabre 2 door model and all models shared the same interment cluster.

    77-78 would be correct.

    • @googleusergp
      @googleusergp ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yup, this is a "B" body variant.
      Whoa Nelley, 1978 and it's great.
      Yes, two years only, 1977-1978 and this is on the "B" body platform. In 1979, it went front wheel drive and became an "E" body again, being cousins to the Eldorado and Toronado and related to the Seville. Keeling Buick was located at 202 Avenue H Levelland, TX 79336 and it appears to be a lawyer's office now, but you can easily make out where it was a car dealership at one time. Levelland is about 30 miles from Lubbock, TX. Yup, I'd drive one, and even violate my "divisional" rule.....
      You're thinking of the "LXXV" version which was made to celebrate Buick's 75th anniversary in 1978. There were 2,889 of them made, they were black and silver outside and had a gray leather interior, four-wheel disc brakes and other trim appointments.
      We got the VIN, we win: 4 for Buick, Z for Riviera, 37 for two door coupe, K for 403 V8 with four barrel, Oldsmobile produced, aka RPO code "L80", 8 for 1978 model year, H for Flint, MI assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Flint, MI plant operated from 1904 to 1999 and was known as "Buick City" in the 1980s and was the Buick "home" plant.
      We got the tag, we can brag: ST78 for 1978 model year, 4BZ37 for Buick (4) Riviera ("B" body/Z model), two door (37), FL1 for Flint, MI assembly, 62G for Tan interior trim, 67 for Saffron exterior paint, 11T for White vinyl top, AV7 for 50/50 split seat, non-reclining, C04 for 1/4 padded vinyl top, 62X for Tan trim appointments and/or tan pinstriping, 690 is another Brown trim code as well, and 10B is the second week of October 1977 production. Yup, this is the best of both worlds: a nice rear wheel drive Buick and has the better V8, being a Oldsmobile 403.
      Whoa Nelley, not an LXXV, but still for me. 1978 and always been great. I'm just wild about Saffron and she's just wild about me, and this one sports a 403. The Olds is pure gold. Made in Flint and needs a hint. Might be flat and that could be that. B body not looking too shoddy. That's it, might be time to quit. Seat code AV7 could be going to Heaven. Priced a little above $2k and may be going away. We need the VIN to win, and the tag to brag. Please don't get squished, because the B body faithful, many here, I sense Benny and most certainly the Google Man will be very, very, very, very pissed.

    • @googleusergp

      @tomwesley7884 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@googleusergp This one came up in my suggested, caught my eye thinking it may be a LeSabre. Nice, but just the worst and most disappointing styling for a Riviera. Nothing much to distinguish from other Buick models of the same year, and, could also be mistaken for an Olds 88 of the same era. You'd prefer a 403 over a Buick 350, or did I misunderstand you (divisional rule)?

    • @googleusergp
      @googleusergp ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tomwesley7884 I don't like mixed divisions (aka a Pontiac with a Chevrolet engine, aka "Chevyiac"). But in this case, the 403 Oldsmobile engine is the better engine and that's what I would want in this Buick.

    it's not sold because nobody wants it, nobody wanted them when they were new and nobody wants them now.....I think the worst Riviera ever made in terms of ZERO style....it's a box, square Big Bodied Buick......just awful in relation to the rest of the Riviera history. No style what so ever. YOu might not like the Front Drive Rivs, but man, they are way classy looking

      Who knows, it may have already sold. I made that video back on March 21st. Only recently made it public on TH-cam. Im perfectly fine being in the minority on this one 😄. Those fwd models definitely had a style.... Ugly 😄. In my humble opinion

    I see potential. Just slam it with some whitewalls and done. A good detail would look even better. If I had money I'd turn it to a lowrider.

    Does it have 4 wheel disk brakes? I'm looking for a disk brake rear end from a 78 riviera to put under my 78 Olds Delta 88.

      They sold that car. Not sure if it had rear disk brakes. Easier to find a 94-96 caprice 9c1 or roadmaster with rear disk brakes
