Mercury Cougars have a special place in my heart. I got my 69 Cougar as my first car when I was 18, I’m 40 now and show it, I’m usually the only one with a Cougar at shows in my area, so many people have told me first date stories in cougars, it’s really cool to see some of the older generation stroll down memory lane and just smile.
Great video here Kevin and Angus!! With a lot of antique manufacturers (most often Fords on the channel), whether it be vehicles with wider tolerances within the valvetrain or the cast iron components or even just simple engineering designs, it is a testament to the builders that they were indeed built tough. Those 351 Windsors' live up to that definition.
Usually, we put the trans in the HIGHEST gear possible, 4th or 5th and try the shock method. You want to put load on the output side of things (clutch disk, trans, etc) not on the power side.
I love watching your videos because I see that you are a natural engineer. There is mechanics and then there is engineers. Your solutions regarding the mechanics, electrical and fluids are phenomenal and your insights are far above many people I've seen. I grew up in a family of mechanics. My three Mercedes mechanic uncles took my 1984 Ford Ranger truck completely apart one weekend as a present to me and at 16 years old, if I wanted to drive, I had to put it together. I once replaced an alternator on the Williamsburg bridge in under 20 minutes, in winter in the middle of the bridge, blocking a lane. I love your videos. Keep it up!

This car really is a "Cougar" to you guys. It's older than both of you! I used to work on Cougars in high school Auto shop in 1975 and 1976. I remember the rear tail lights ran off of a motor that turned the lights on sequentially and the front head lights opened with a vacuum pump. Finding the vacuum leak was a challenge!
This was a fun one. It was nice to see Mook in the video and Angus is awesome. His quick humor is hilarious. That guy had that look of “wholly crap they actually got it driving and now it’s gonna cost me $20,000 to restore it” 🤣🤣🤣

Love that cougar! Back in '76 I had a buddy that had a '68. He removed the back seat and built in a cooler! LOL. Shag carpet all over with mood lighting in strategic locations. Good times. We were both 16 years old at the time.
Everyone loves a fine ass cougar!!! That car is cool as hell, it has the look with the fats and skinnys riding on Keystones, traction bars, Hurst T-handle!!!! That's the way hot rods looked when I was a kid in the 70s. Cool!!!
So often you guys revive a car and take it home to play with yourselves. It's cool sometimes to see you save one for the current owner. Awesome video and great to see Angus working with you in this one.
I dont have a drivers license myself, but watching these vids with old cars you fix up puts a big smile on my face and hope in my "car enthusiast" heart :)
With working rear brakes it is easy enough to break the clutch to flywheel 'rust-seal' by putting the rear up on axle stands so the rear wheels are off the ground, starting up in gear, and then just gently applying the brakes until the 'seal' gives up . . and you have separation! I have had to do this a few times on a manual stick rarely used Valiant 225, and it works every time.
My dad just brought home a few weeks ago a 1951(ish) Sterling Semi truck, big old cummins diesel, sat in a barn in Washington state for 42 years. He go it running and drove it off the trailer on the 42 y/o diesel fuel. Cab is falling apart because its a wood structure with sheet metal nailed to the outside and had literally a foot of mouse house on the floor. Barn finds are the best.
I know how it feels to own a vehicle that for whatever reason, sometimes multiple reasons, they get parked for an extended period of time. Sometimes you bond with a vehicle and you just don't want to see it go so it ends up sitting until you get the time/money/motivation to go back to it but you are just happy to know that you still own it.
Was really hoping this one was yours. Really solid Cougar! I would drive it just how it is, but a restoration will also be very nice. Awesome of y’all to get it going for the owner. Hope we can get an update later on in the resto process.
I owned a 1967 Cougar with 289 Windsor and automatic transmission....and the exact same steeringwheel :) for about 8 years....i loved it...such a beatifull car
69 was the first year of the 351 Windsor. They were rated at 290 horsepower from the factory with the four barrel carburetor. I had one. Had a lot of get up and go for a small Ford block
This is why I love this channel. Always introducing new old cars that I never knew existed and looks so cool. This car is gonna be FUCKING SICK when it's restored. You should do an update on the restoration somewhere later down the line.
351 winsor can be tuned up , to scream 😱. Perfect , i know they use to have the vacuum lines hooked up to the front head light covers, bad design , they make a electric motor replacement to open an close the front head lamps. Thanks for posting what a awesome car.
In 1977 i bought a 69 Cougar for $600 it looked like this one. I was 19 year old. Got it on a Friday nite, Saturday morming had it repainted, Blue. Few weeks later me & my Dad(Big Beefy.. im Lil Beefy) who did interiors on cars & truck bench seats, re-upostried the inside in black diamond plete naugahide. Seats, dash, door & back pamels, sundeck & all. The inside was just like a 69 Mustang. Had that Kool Cougar for 9-10 years & was running when i sold it to move to Texass from Tennesse. Thats one car i really wish i still had. Thankx for the flash back! I even raced it at local dragstrip! Thankx again.. for a few mins there... I was 19 again.

Love that cougar! Back in '76 I had a buddy that had a '68. He removed the back seat and built in a cooler! LOL. Shag carpet all over with mood lighting in strategic locations. Good times. We were both 16 years old at the time.
After watching several of your videos it's amazing how resilient these old cars are!
Seeing that blue when you started washing was beautiful!!
Ah man I do love me a old cougar after a hard days of work.
That's such a beautiful blue, and that 351 sounds very healthy
Everyone loves a fine ass cougar!!!
That car is cool as hell, it has the look with the fats and skinnys riding on Keystones, traction bars, Hurst T-handle!!!! That's the way hot rods looked when I was a kid in the 70s. Cool!!!
So often you guys revive a car and take it home to play with yourselves. It's cool sometimes to see you save one for the current owner.
Awesome video and great to see Angus working with you in this one.
Great job motivating me to get to work on my two cars a 1965 mustang and my favorite 1972 old cutlass just like the one you and mook have
I dont have a drivers license myself, but watching these vids with old cars you fix up puts a big smile on my face and hope in my "car enthusiast" heart :)
Been watching for over two years and man I’m glad to see what you can/will do for others. It will always show and we appreciate it!
Wow. I love those old cougars. Hideaway headlights and everything.
‘67 and ‘68 Cougars are one of my favorite muscle cars! Glad to see one close enough on TH-cam!
I hope we as Americans aren't running out of these old barn finds I could watch these videos forever.
My uncle had a 1968 Cougar XR-7. 302 ci, manual tranny, forest green, beige interior, five spoke Cragar rims. Beautiful.
Was really hoping this one was yours. Really solid Cougar! I would drive it just how it is, but a restoration will also be very nice. Awesome of y’all to get it going for the owner. Hope we can get an update later on in the resto process.
Love these old Cougars. The cars weren’t too bad either.
The tailights on a coug are pretty cool. The actuators on the 67 is pretty cool.
Chuck and Darryl are my favorite cast members. They probably get paid good money.
This is why I love this channel. Always introducing new old cars that I never knew existed and looks so cool. This car is gonna be FUCKING SICK when it's restored. You should do an update on the restoration somewhere later down the line.
Ford needs to bring back the Cougar, and the square body Town Car or Continental.
