Skywarp makes more sense to me the sweeps can multiply like the insecticons so the sweeps being insecticons makes sense to me.
I have a separate opinion that brought me to the same conclusion: It just goes well with Thundercracker/Scourge
@@Joseph_Drew_III that also makes sense. Hasbro officials have said that it was the intention for skywarp to be cyclonous. Bombshell was an animation error.

I’ve always loved Cyclonus. From the loyal soldier of the cartoon to the ancient warrior of IDW. Even the cackling Armada version of the character stands out as one of the best dumb goon archetype villains of the franchise.
I loved Don Brown's voice for Cyclonus.He just seemed perfect for a crazed helicopter who loved shooting.
He clearly had a lot of fun doing it. A lot of the Unicron Trilogy voice actors really phoned it in, and were clearly just there for the paycheck. Not Don Brown though.

transformers animes always change for other names in USA, sometimes the japanese names are better but less creative, or make even less sense! and even when the color and vehicle match they put so strange personalities, and this make me to keep waiting for the redeco with g1 colors ahah! interesting that cyclonus in energon has the same name in japanese!

Thanks! I'm glad you picked up on that - I might make a joke here or there about parts of the canon that have bad reputations, but The Basics is all about treating all areas of Transformers with equal respect! This is a series meant to speak to and help new fans as much as it is old ones, and the last thing I want is to scare anyone away from fandom by being angry and dismissive of parts of the franchise that were their entry points!

Skywarp will always be Cyclonus to me. Having a Bug become Cyclonus sucks, besides the Sweeps can create clones just like the insecticons can.
CHASEMARC please watch the old cartoon. You think that loser Skywarp could be Cyclonus? Bombshell was a BEAST. Look up Bombshell and the other insecticons for that matter. Insecticons rule... I know they are "bugs", but they got close to destroying the Autobots & Decepticons many times. He could take over minds and was a badass. Bug or plane... they both got trashed and had to be rebuilt. Lol

Sky warp purple scourge blue... the official statement was Megatron becoming Galvatron was a last minute change... bomb shell and sky warp was an animation error just like seeing certain characters on earth and then they show up on the shuttle with Optimus prime this was very very common back then because they didn’t communicate with cell phones animators were handed memos or mailed letters or a phone call to the boss then a memo passed around this caused lots of miscommunications and once you’ve spent the money to animate something like that it’s way too expensive to go back and fix it so you just Roll with it.
Yes Sky warp is cyclonus. The Insecticons are the sweeps. Cyclonus is the leader of the Armada of sweeps If it bothers you then so sad to bad.
I dont think it really matters because Cyclonus is nothing like Skywarp or Bombshell.
Here is my opinion.
Cyclonus would take parts from both Skywarp and bombshell. It would explain his savage might(Bombshell) And his loyalty to his leader Galvatron(Skywarp.)
I really liked the Armada Cyclonus, he really added another element of comedy alongside Demolisher but yeah, his laugh & boastful remarks were definitely memorable 😂👌🏾💯

I actively hated Cyclonus before MTMTE and Lost Light, completely unable to take his character seriously. After LL I have come to care deeply for him and like him a lot. He became a person instead of an object. Scourge has never found the same favour with me. Took James Robert's writing and Alex Milne's art to change my mind.

Yes, it follows the logic of the toy line, with two 1984 Decepticon Planes replaced by the two new 1986 Decepticon Planes (and with the Insecticons _still_ in the toy line). My own 'head canon' has Reflector become the anonymous Sweeps, but I think I'm in a very small minority there. :)

6:13 The transformers in Armada rarely ever blink or close their eyelids so it's weird seeing a character with their optics closed even for sleeping (even so to indicate a bot is sleeping their head is positioned in an angle where their helm casts a shadow over their eyes)
I personally like to think unicorn fused the best parts of both bombshell and Skywarp into cyclones. It’s a nice compromise in the debate for me.
Come to think of it, one could say that Cyclonus got his loyalty (perfect fit) and jet-form (even not being the classic F 15) from Skywarp while his intelligence and charisma (nod to cerebro-shells?) could have been transferred from Bombshell.

IDW Cyclonus is my fave version of Cyclonus. Him and Tailgate... perfection. And the ending of Lost Light made me so happy how he and Whirl would become close friends. Damn I want Lost Light back...

How do you figure that Cyclonus and Skywarp had similar personalities? At least in terms of the original cartoon: Skywarp was a dim-witted thug who was blindly loyal to Megatron and the Decepticon cause. Cyclonus later displayed a free-thinking personality with a code of honor in combat. Moreso, he was not blindly loyal to Galvatron after witnessing his gradual mental decline.

My grandad got me this toy in 1987, when I was 4. I was like "Who is this one, it isn't on the tv show." Then when he later appeared on the tv show here in NZ I was blown away by my awesome gift

I love Cyclonus. IDW version especially. IDW Cyclonus was more nuanced, complex and his character arc was satisfying to follow.
I just love the juxtaposition of personalities of Skywarp becoming Cyclonus. Cyclonus is an honorable warrior who has a strict code of honor and is extremely tactical and even stands up to his leader if the need arises, meanwhile Skywarp is a jackass who pushes people down the stairs using his teleportation powers.
The only version I like of Cyclonus is the IDW one

I was writing a fanfic with Cyclonus having a part, but I haven't touched it in a while (fanfic is hard and takes concentration. lol), so this is really helpful.
Admittedly, I wasn't expecting to hear the direction he took in IDW comics, but it's still an interesting take nonetheless. I always remembered his name, but as someone who never really got into the series until the time of the movies, I missed out on ever finding out what he was, as he was really just in the 1986 film for two or three scenes. Nice to see that the character did end up having depth beyond being just a cool name to me.
I really love Cyclonus' holoform.

Skywarp is my all-time favorite Decepticon and seeing as how he was a loyal soldier to Megatron, in my book he was turned into
Cyclonus aka Galvatron's ship. Plus they're the same color
IDW Cyclonus is definitely my favorite version of the character.
Also it’s kind of interesting how Animated kind of lightly implied their version of him was Skywarp via the Allspark Almanac.
I've heard/read an interview with staff from the 86 movie that in an early version of the script for the 86 movie it read: "Cyclonus and his armada(Scourge the tracker and his huntsmen the Sweeps) which was intended to mean that Scourge and the Sweeps ARE Cyclonus' armmada, not that Armada is another character, but that the animator/animators doing the reconstruction/rebirth scene misinterpreted the script and thought that armada was a character named Armada, but that the animator/animators doing the next scene where they board their new ship got it right. This explains why the 2nd Cyclonus disappears and is replaced by a 4th Sweep.
As for Bombshell VS Skywarp I've heard/read it said by various 86 movie staff in various interviews that the description for the reconstruction scene read, "the dead Decepticon's become Cyclonus, Scourge, and the Sweeps(who are duplicates of Scourge)," not that it names who becomes who and that the animator/animators just randomly choose which characters became which new characters. Therefore what we see on screen isn't necessarily what we were meant to see. I say they are whole new characters that simply used the dead Decepticon scrap.
This is further evidenced by dialogue in the 86 movie and season 3. Galvatron indirectly says that he is Megatron, but Cyclonus, Scourge and the Sweeps never refer to being whomever they once were.....as if they either don't know whom they once were or they are new beings, new souls ,in old reformed bodies.
Cyclonus is neither Skywarp nor Bombshell. He is a new character based from Decepticon corpse. As what Unicron said, NEW TROOPS TO COMMAND.
Great work once again! I would say that Armada Cyclonus did one more thing of note, though: He appeared in the PS2 video game as a boss with a kickass themesong!

In my G1 Revived Continuity, Skywarp becomes Cyclonus. Bombshell, along with the other six Insecticons, became a Sweep.

In my headcanon, Skywarp and Bombshell where both used to make Cyclonus, Their minds and bodies combined to make him.
I always loved his design...he's a valiant warrior and a beast in battle
I'm gonna include the original Cyclounus in my fanfiction as his own character, unconnected to the Decepticons but still connected to Unicron like in G1 and with the "ancient Cybertronian" origin from IDW.

Although he's the lesser used one, I like the Unicron Trilogy Cyclonus. He's the version that I was first introduced to; and like you said, he's memorable, even if he didn't do much of anything significant.
I always figured the appearance briefly of two, were two different readout views of one through Unicron's eyes. They way we saw a digitized transformation of Megatron. Making him Skywarp. Interesting.
Personally I think he is skywarp because if he is usually with scourge which is thundercracker and skywarp and thundercracker makes more sense than bombshell and thundercracker
As someone who parted ways with TF continuity towards the end of G1, my mind never ceases to boggle at the weird twists and turns it's taken since :)

I say Its Skywarp because of the fact he's very loyal unlike bombshell who has betrayed Megatron multiple times (It was skywarp who revived Megatron first after all) also It was Skywarps Toy that was replaced with Cyclonus when the 1986 film came out
This series brought me back into the fandom and I’m happy it did as I have the cyclonus figure I’ve always wanted since seeing the movie

I feel that skywarp is cyclonus because it makes scene for cyclonus to be a seeker and the sweeps can multiply so that means that scourge would be bombshell cause insecticons multiply like crazy so yea skywarp is cyclonus
I barely think about Cyclonus but I really like his appearance in Robots in Disguise series and I really love that series.
Hands down, I always saw Cyclonus as a transformed new body of Skywrap and Bombshell as the Huntman. I wish they followed through with a armada of Huntsmen for Cyclonus.
-6:35 I'm a fan of Snowcat, his robot mode and vehicle mode design is cool. But the skis and yodeling... not so much. Though I did get a Armada Cyclonus toy and repaint it in Snowcats colors. Looks better. I even have a the Energons Snowcat and pretend that he's a triple changer.

I actually like this character a lot and i am among those who choose to believe that it was in fact Sky-Warp who was turned into Cyclonus. it makes more sense in regards to the revenge killing of Star-Scream and an insecticon would make for a much better sweep than Right-hand-man.
I grew up with the Swedish dubs for the Unicron trilogy, and Cyclonous was one of my favourite characters. Rewatching Armada recently, I was surprised how he in the Swedish dub at one point sang a Swedish kids' song. I don't know what he sang in the English or Japanese versions, but I would assume it wasn't even the same melody.

@@lordgzstg6181 Had to look up it up, it's in episode 25 at around 15:30. In the English version doesn't sing, but references Santa Claus is coming to town by saying "You better watch out, you better not cry, because you're gonna get blasted".
In the Japanese version he only announces that it's a trap.

His Armada chopper Paint Job was the same when he became Snowcat. That version was a hoot.
That would explain the constant changing of his design in the original season 3 of G1. Seems AKOM couldn't be bothered to use a consistent model for the guy, since he goes back and forth from both of Floro Derey's designs.

When I was a kid in the 80's, my friend loved Cyclonus. I didn't at all, so I named him 'The robotic clothespin'. Ha
I find it funny at how Cyclonus in the Japanese Dub of Armada was supposed to be Sandstorm, but it sounded like they called him Thunderstorm. But it was stupid of them to make him Evolve into a Snow Skier. That was Torchic's Evolution level of Abomination and Insulting!
He appeared on the Transformers War for Cybertron video game, for the DS version, and had story dialogue on it, but didn’t appear on the most prominent Xbox and PlayStation versions.

I actually couldn't really tell the difference between Cyclonus' earlier design and later design until i saw them compared. Somehow his earlier design ended up being used in the Starscream's Ghost episode. And i did think he was Skywarp with his power and intelligence increased by Unicron's upgrades. It's mainly down to his loyalty. The way Cyclonus goes out of his way to locate Galvatron in Five Faces of Darkness practically mirrors how Skywarp went out of his way to re-active Megatron in More Than Meets the Eye. So, while Skywarp's clownish personality didn't survive, his devotion to his leader did.
Holy crap, I didn't actually know that Animated!Cyclonus being a far-future modified Animated!Skywarp was actually a merger of multiple origin stories in earlier continuities! I thought it was simply the Animated crew trying to figure out a roundabout way of having Cyclonus in their show without having Unicron. Brilliant.
I also really need to watch the 1986 movie at some point.

Armada/Energon Cyclonus is the one I'm familiar with.
I always thought skywarp became Cyclonus until the beast era story that had skywarp under the thrall of vehicle Cyclonus

I liked the Armada Cyclonus in the 2004 PS2 game and his fun boss fight and theme.
Given the mistakes that were made in the movie regarding Cyclonus, I like to think that Skywarp is indeed the one reincarnated and that Bombshell is one of the Sweeps.
