The "Text-to-Speech" voice is a nice touch, but I prefer Perceptor British. If he is in any further movies or even the War for Cybertron series, I'd love to hear someone like Simon Jones (the original Arthur Dent!) provide the voice.

I've always assumed that the bots who showed up without any explanation were simply found in newly excavated parts of The Ark, with the cons coming from Cybertron in response.

I've always like his G1 design, when ever I think of the 86 film, I always remember percepter and blastor fighting soundwave and his cassettes. That movie is so good. I lost count how many times I've watched it.

I enjoyed his transition in the IDW comics to become more combat enabled. He realized that there were ways he could utilize his intellect (range finding and positioning are mathematics based after all) to help his comrades on the battlefield, plus the eye scope and laser precision shoulder cannon look so cool!!

The fact that his microscope form actually worked in the toys that use it is really cool, even if it isn't very powerful. I would love to get my hands on one, preferably Titans Return so I can use it with less fear of its value like I would with an original.
Perceptor as a sniper makes so much sense. With that microscope/scope and the wheel on his arm that looks like that adjusting knob thing on rifles.

I hadn't been keeping up with Transformers toys since Armada, so when I saw his Titans Return toy, my mind was blown. Picked it up that day.
My favorite incarnation of good ol' Percy, is his G1 version.
I think Jim Ward is my favorite Perceptor voice, and he could definitely be a sort of “evergreen”, definitive Perceptor voice if you ask me. But using PlainTalk for Animated Perceptor was a really cool, unique idea that I adored as well.

Perceptor was always one of my favorites from the original series, and I believe it is still the best. I must admit that I never realized that his more expanded vocabulary was only part of the movie, though I do remember bits of technobabble from the series. I do have one question for you though. It is unclear why some Titan Masters have the powers that they do, but in the case of Convex, with the power to shrink his power to microscopic size, it seems to be a clear callback to the G1 episode where he, Brawn, and Bumblebee shrank down to retrieve the heart of Cybertron from Megatron. Do you agree?
He's also one the characters, who could shrink down to be usable by humans when he transformed. Y'know, like Soundwave

Perceptor is an interesting Autobot. Besides the G1 movie, I remember him mostly from this 2:09 episode.

Loved Perceptor's makeover in the IDW comics. The cold sniper-type character really suited him. think his alt-mode should have been more mobile, though.
I loved his turn in IDW and that will probably lead me to getting the Titans Return figure!

As for Perceptor, my first exposure to him was in Animated back when it first aired. At the time I wasnt into the franchise and had no idea that Stephen Hawking-bot actually had a cool character legacy and now I appreciate him more.

I love G1 Perceptor, but I'll be glad if I never have to deal with "Cold Sniper Guy" Perceptor after IDW closes the current G1 comic run their doing.
Yeah, just screams edgy on IDW's part. Preceptor is a scientist that seeks out knowledge and turning the impossible into the possible.
He's really only that guy in the 5 issues of Last Stand of the Wreckers and even then his scientific acumen in dealing with the Aequitas computer is just as much at the forefront of his character as shooting enemies. And when he is shooting enemies, he's hanging out of the bottom of dropships taking them out with PRECISION, which is very much in tune with his core character IMO as well. Just my two cents though.
I kinda like in AHM where one Autobot (Ironhide? I forgot) seems to be somewhat appalled at Preceptor becoming a war machine like the rest of them, but Cliffjumper thinks Percy’s inner sniper is pretty cool.

You know, it takes a special kind of nerdy kid to want Perceptor as much as Grimlock, because a science hero robot who turns into a *working microscope* is just as cool as a fighting robot who turns into a mother------- T-rex.

I got the Perceptor toy for Christmas back when it originally came out. It had to be one of my favorite Transformer toys I ever received. I wish I still had it.
Preceptor reminds me of that smart kid who the jocks thought they could roll over because he just shrugged it off and handled his business.
But the minute you crossed that line... he let you know he could throw down with the best of them.
I think a good alternate mode for Perceptor would be an ASV Track Truck that functions based on a mobile lab with elements based on a microscope.

Always liked Perceptor and his staring episodes were greats especially Cosmic Rust. How about the basics on Rodimus Prime or Galvatron then again they're huge names given their roles so I doubt you could entirely cover those 2 in a short time window but it would be fantastic to see
I love this series so much! It would be great to see a video on Wheeljack; he’s always been one of my favorite characters and I think he’s gone through a lot of evolutions between continuities. Keep up the great work!
There seems to be subtle hints in the Power of the Primes series that Perceptor is perhaps being earmarked as a future Prime. Not only his short term custody of the Matrix, but it's communication with him, his chances to prove bravery, his upskilling in various media to battle enharden him, his colour scheme stabilising to be more red, his face and forehead crest being a basic enough that you can envision it being upgraded to be like a Prime's, and his vocab being adjusted to match the audience he's speaking to (i.e. he's learning to be a voice to different people in a multicultural audience). His story arc of overcoming adversity under the difficult management of interim leader Grimlock showed tenacity. It's not hard to envisage his microscope appendages being upgraded to cannon. Leaders of a new age will be science-led, and with a few years of character development and opportunities to take centre stage in withstanding adversity, he will make a formidable leader. The nearest thing to Optimus Prime after a series of Autobot Leaders that followed Optimus who definitely had deficiencies. Perceptor would be the Transformer equivalent of a Rocky Balboa story.

Very nice. There was also a Platinum Intell Ops reissue of the G1 Perceptor toy recently, included with Blaster and some microscope slides, which were a very cool addition.
I really wish that the text-to-speech program used for animated preceptor was used in a transformers video game with story mode and everything.

Yeah, I've been thinking about some kind of "Episode Zero" that would look at the toylines (and the few other lines some early G1 figures come from) and how Hasbro turned them into "The Transformers (tm)" - in another life I might've started the series with it, but I think a lot of other talented TH-camrs (not necessarily TF-centric ones, either!) have told that story several times!

Well, his designs had to be a bit more unique due to his form, I believe that can cause some problems with more unique molding that they need to do with him.
Also, because of the fact that you actually get a functioning microscope.

For me g1 perceptor was my favorite. So I was super excited when they released him in the Titans return line. But I have a soft spot for armada perceptor because with out armada I would have not know what transformers was and the lore I got to explore afterwards is rewarding.

Funny thing, just as you introduce Perceptor as the Autobot scientist, it's showing a scene where he randomly has a Decepticon logo on his chest.
I have always felt that what Perceptor needed was a protector like Grimlock as the bodyguard in case he ever gets assassinated because he is just too important to die. If there is ever a cold war scenario where scientists are kidnapped and forced to make doomsday weapons for the enemy, Grimlock would be the perfect guy to watch over him. Maybe have perceptor use Grimlock in dinosaur mode as a mount that he rides when going on exploration missions. See you got brains and brawn as a team. One does all the fighting while the other guy is studying the alien environment and scanning all the objects for analysis and uploading to his computer for processing later. Perceptor as a sniper is dumb. I really think he should be the kind of character that uploads his programs to drones that then fight on his behalf so he can focus on important things. I just can't imagine him as a grunt doing low paid work but more like a genius building the next generation of weapons and defenses for the autobots so they don't get their butts handed to them so easily by decepticons who lets be honest have the better firepower than the good guys and seem to be much more offense-focused. All he needs to be "cool" and less "nerdy" is a character that already is good at and likes fighting and offers great defense. (dinobots are slow and dumb so would fill this role perfectly. Only downside is they are clumsy and might wreck the lab)
If they want to make Perceptor a fighter I imagine him inside a giant mech suit (something like Batman or Iron Man would make to lessen risk of death to themselves) and that mech suit may be a way to do both scienc-ey stuff while fighting. (a suit would offer the protection and the scanners and long range communication through drones gives him more "AWARENESS" of the combat area which gives him the nickname of "Perceptor" because he is aware of danger long before it happens on the rest of the team. (long range scanners = early warning system like the AWACS planes)
If the Decepticons have stealth (in the form of laserbeak and ravage who are basically the ninjas of the bad guy team) then Perceptor would be the opposite of that and provide counter stealth because he can sense their presence despite their sneaky stealthy ability using the most advanced science to detect their presence. This to me is a much more clever way to illustrate the importance of intelligence in battle than just making him a sniper. Since he is perceptive, it's very hard to camouflage or hide from him due to his army of drones, sensors, and intelligence about the technology the decepticons possess. It's like trying to outsneak Batman with all his gadgets. (perceptor is like a detective but unlike batman he is the nerdy version more than a cool one)
His main rival would be shockwave and shockwave would be focused on shooting people with his gun mode, but Perceptor would be all about shield technology to deflect blasts. Offensive shots from Shockwave are cancelled by shield barrier from perceptor that renders long range fight limited in effectiveness which forces decepticons to have to fight close range. (giving an excuse for why transformers are often armed with melee weapons when energy is wasted on long shoot outs which just lead to stalemates due to weapons losing power long range when shields are activated) If perceptor is in fight mode he would have to use suit (to remind us he is a weak fighter because he is brainy character) but without the suit he has to use his brains. (like Batman he isn't a power character. He has to play the 'wizard' role and outwit his opponent with intelligence "James Bond" style.) Making a character good at both fighting and science to me just makes them overpowered. If a brainy character has to fight it has to be in an intelligent skillful and nerdy way (think Spider-man) that compensates for lack of brute force or else they are boring. IE if Grimlock is the Transformers equivalent of "The Incredible Hulk", Perceptor would be the "Spider-man" in combat form. IE he has to target an enemies weak points or just avoid them to survive to live another day using cunning and wit. That way he can still maintain his nerdy side, but not be useless if nobody is there to protect him. (quick-thinking is sometimes more important than being good at fighting especially if the bad guy has the upper hand in a battle)
Is it true that Tesarus from the Decepticon Justice Division grinded Perceptor in the IDW Comics?
