Love the video. Somw small advice, use more solder flux. There were plenty of connections that would have been better if you had just added a small dab of flux each time. Looking forward to more.
For those who dont know, these early Taiwan clones have high value because they are true full chipset clones (their chips are interchangeable with real Famicom parts). The later mid 90s ones which are all made in a single chip (NOAC - nes on a chip) are of very low value and quality. So if you have such an early famiclone dont give it away or pass it as unworthy, unlike the NOAC ones.

I don't usually watch videos like this, but this was incredibly satisfying to watch. I didn't think the circuit boards could be cleaned in that manner, especially the power supply. I've never seen such a deep cleaning of any electronic. I thought I was a patient person, but you have WAY more patience than I ever will and you know your stuff. God-like of a job! If I knew what you know when I was younger, I would have saved tons of electronics because people are constantly throwing away stuff all the time in my city. One time someone had a flood in their basement and all their consoles got soaked. Only one was still working after it dried. They ended up throwing the rest of the consoles away.

You can use water on a board to clean if you wanted.. you just need to make sure ALL electricity in tge board is gone and it needs to be 150% dry before power goes through it. People put boards in dishwashers all the time.

absolutely you are right dear Sakamoto , but unfortunately, Nintendo did not have a official agent in our area and a lot of other areas around the world, so clone versions (C versions) were the only hope for children of our generation. Somehow, this type of clone version was more rare and has high quality. Everywhere in media the original versions have been restored for those who had access to the original versions, but for the children who remember their entire childhood with these versions, there is very little videos. 🧡

A note about reassembly with self-tapping screws. Don't just screw them in, turn them backwards a little bit until you feel the screw drop into the old thread, then turn forward. If done correctly the screw turns easily and doesn't make new threads and soon strip the thread out completely.
When I have a bad thread on ABS I put a drop of acetone in the hole and it a bit to soften. Once it's dry or mostly dry, I'll re-tap the hole. If it's other plastics.... What's a little chloroform between friends! (seriously plastic and CORRECT solvent welding can do wonders)

The only part I really question is the polishing but that's only because I assume this famiclone had a matte finish like most 90s consoles originally. Regardless, the time, effort and care put into this is frankly incredible.

Same for me. I thought it was a fake. Then I read the story... and then looking at the internal damage, that was all used and abused and not fake damage and gunk. And I have to agree with your assessment. Was amazing to watch all the work done. Still don't know how he got the right resistor value from that burnt resistor though.

Good job, but as a tip, when you polish the plastic of the consoles you are eliminating the roughness that they have in their design. Before I made mistakes and polished them, until I restored a dreamcast and left it shiny... but then they showed me a new one in the box (more than 20 years old) and the plastic was rough and not smooth, the same thing happened to me with the PSOne. I'll leave you that information. bye

This is in fact a rare console, and was only distributed to some countries that didn't have access to the "Nintendo" or "Famicom" at the time, alot were destroyed, that's what makes this rare, probably more so than the actual Nintendo! For your own safety in the long run, and the safety of those watching and emulating, please don't add bleach to your cleanings.

I’ve seen some funky systems in my day, but that one looks like someone sent it back in time and told their great grandfather to make sure he passed it down to every son, and they all must go out of their way to avoid taking any care of it!

I’ve seen some funky systems in my day, but that one looks like someone sent it back in time and told their great grandfather to make sure he passed it down to every son, and they all must go out of their way to avoid taking any care of it!
