Hi. Just subscribed. I've had my T4 since new, bought from Collin Giltrap's, Grey Lynne Auckland Feb 04. Has done precisely 800,000 and sorry to peeve you off but the turbo is original. As are the coolant hoses, radiator, starter motor and the gearbox. Apart from regular maintenance, the front of the engine was stripped back and sump off for oil leaks at 714k, but still original engine. Should see 1million no problem. Uses a little bit of oil, but not excessive. It's currently in the workshop for cambelt/waterpump/belts etcetera at Qualitat in Penrose AKL, an independent Vw/Audi/Skoda agent. It does have a bad white smoke issue from cold, indicating unburnt fuel, so they're looking into that. Injectors were done at 700k, the pump cried enough at 732k and a second hand one was found, milage unknown, but certainly a lot less. Have watched many of your videos, very helpful thanks. Would be interested in knowing what milage you are doing these jobs at, being an ex automotive diesel mechanic. Will send some pics and more info, also want some interior moldings you might be able to help with where to go. Keep up the great work. Regards Keith Young.

      Hi Keith,
i am from Germany and i have a VW T$ 2.5 TDI ACV also with white smoke expecially in cold days, i think with unburnet diesel ( i smell it and there is spot on the floor at the exhaust). Could you find out by you what the reason was?

I love the maxpeedingrods turbo on my 03 ALH TDI. It's about 50k miles in and superb.

They seam to be cheap, but with a lot of good reviews, I even see one guy test it on a balancer and it was great for standard applications but not great for high performance. Prefect for what I need 👍

5:07 I make that face every time I have to do work on my engine!! I know the feeling well.

That’s crazy, I want that power 😃 I do have another engine which I wanted to have ported with oversized pistons, bigger injectors, fuel pump, turbo, but it cost enough just to build this engine as standard 😆 maybe I should just get an axg and save myself the hassle.

Sure you already know but thers a special set of threaded exhaust clamp tools makes things a lot easier still tricky though. 👍

Yeah I got the clamp tool, but it’s not fun to use 🤣

Cheers buddy, yeah I couldn’t get enough leverage to undo those bolts, mine had torx bolts which had been half rounded off, had to hammer in a bit then I was able to undo them

Mate, stick a stainless downpipe on from Jason at PP Tuning whilst you're in there.
    Be aswell huh.

I haven’t looked into buying one, only the price of the flanges and pipe. How much is the pp tuning one, and most importantly, does it get rid of those stupid exhaust clamps?

Mine was like that when I replaced it… the new hybrid one is exactly the same with a bit of oil, nothing crazy but like yours… I had a turbo fail on an ABL 1.9 td, that was a total mess.

Yeah better to catch a failing turbo early 👍 luckily I know the engine quite well and I regularly check and see what’s going on under the bonnet. I’ve got new vacuum hoses and will also need to check oil pressure with a gauge, don’t want to put a new turbo in and for it to do the same again

It's a shame you didn't show the steps needed to get those manifolds off. I'm going to have to do the exact same job soon and it would be useful to know what you learnt while doing it. What is the best way to get to the bolts for instance. Thanks anyway. You've given me the confidence to do it myself.

From about 3:30 I remove the intake and exhaust manifold, it’s old and not great quality video but should help 👍
Hopefully this helps, I would recommend using small 1/4” ratchet, will small hex key socket for intake, and the exhaust is 12mm, small tools make it easier to get in, also all the bolts on the underside of manifolds have to be done blind, you’ll have to use your finger tips to find and locate the bolts. Just take your time and you’ll be fine. Be cautious and try to cover up any openings into the engine, I’ve dropped a socket in the engine once, engine had to come out and turned upside down, no lie we tried everything to get it out 😡
      Good luck buddy 🤞

      @TwiggsT4  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah I was going to just change the core myself but I think I’d rather get a pro to do it and maybe hybrid it while I’m at it
