This is the absolute best video for diagnosing a bad turbo for diy. I get the impression that the guy making the video has probably forgotten more about engines/cars than most of us will ever know.
The first indication there was of a worn turbo on my conveyance was a drop of around 15mpg in the economy and an unusual whiff of diesel fumes on tick over. On inspection, I discovered a collection of oil around the turbo. There were no unusual noises, nor was there any discernable drop in performance. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Oil leak after lubricating the turbo might not have impact on the turbo, but it will gradually lead to low oil level in the long run! Low oil level will then lead to turbo failure!
The gas smell indicates either a fuel leak or a cylinder that is misfiring or not burning properly. This could be caused by a leaky injector. The turbo boost check engine indicates that the engine is not receiving enough boost from the turbocharger.
Not really! Turbocharger failure might cause oil to mix with the incoming air, but as no coolant supply is connected to turbocharger, there is no way a turbo might mix coolant with oil. Coolant mix with oil is usually caused by gasket failure or crack in the engine. Have your engine been overheated lately? Overheating is the main cause of gasket failure which might lead to oil and coolant mix.
Thank you for the amazing guide. As a newbie I noticed too late that my turbo had gone bad do you think my engine may have suffered damage from driving with a blown turbo? I drove around 40 miles everyday for a week
It depends on the type of damage! Usually a failing turbo would cause power reduction only, but if the damaged turbo is leaking oil or mixing engine oil with the incoming air or the exhaust, then that could cause oil starvation in the engine.
Anything that can cause oil leak into the combustion chamber can cause carbon buildup in the cylinders and on the spark plugs. If the turbocharger cause oil to mix with the intake air, then it can affect the spark plugs.
Hey buddy thank you for replying my comment I found out that my boost pressure actuator was rusted and doesn’t move when it call for air, What will happen if I drive with bad boost pressure actuator?
The life of the turbocharger will be shortened. The turbo actuator is there to control the waste gate valve and acts as a pressure relief valve that controls the boost output of your turbo, diverting excess exhaust gases away from the turbine wheel. This controls the speed of the turbine, preventing it from over-speeding, and regulating the speed of the compressor. And this helps to protect the turbocharger from unnecessary wear and tear, by limiting the maximum boost pressure of the turbo at a safe level.
Hi I have question and need your advice my 2liter turbocharged engine burning oil while standing or waiting at traffic light oil accumulated and when drive a lot of blue and black smoke comes out and after that while driving faster there is no smoke am confused my car is saab 93 2004 model p.s. have checked the turbo blades are very strong no play as well the axe at all
Have you checked the condition of the valve guide seals? If the turbocharger is not leaking, then the valve guides might be leaky, assuming the piston rings are in good condition.
Am not exactly sure dear! In some areas, finding turbo repair kit is challenging as spare part shops prefer to have the entire turbo.. instead of the kit!
The repair on the turbocharger depends on the cause of damage and the type of trouble, some of the turbo troubles can be repaired by replacing some components of the turbochargers while others require total replacement of the turbocharger.

Indeed! You are absolutely right! Thank you very much for sharing your wonderful experience!
Can a turbo charger failure cause a car to over rev itself due to oil going into the intake
@@wizcooking6200 on a diesel yes, but the oil has to be excessive. It's called runaway.
Good job.
Many many thanks
Thank you for the video.
Excellent explanation 👌 👏 👍 😀
You're welcome!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge, please keep up the good work !
Thanks, will do!
Really appreciable. very nice explanation of turbo charger
Glad you liked it
lot of love from Kenya.....good job buddy
Thank you 🙌
Thanks for the very, very informative video 👌
Glad it was helpful! So nice of you!
Very easy explanation, I was wandering what will happen if bottom of oil lubricantion (exiting oil) connection is loose and oil leaks?
Oil leak after lubricating the turbo might not have impact on the turbo, but it will gradually lead to low oil level in the long run! Low oil level will then lead to turbo failure!
I’m noticing a gas smell inside my discovery and turbo boost check engine code. What exactly is the issue to repair?
The gas smell indicates either a fuel leak or a cylinder that is misfiring or not burning properly. This could be caused by a leaky injector. The turbo boost check engine indicates that the engine is not receiving enough boost from the turbocharger.
Cummings ISX motor can the turbo charger leak, coolant, and oil at the same time… or is that something more serious like the motor?
Awesome video. Would this oil leak or faulty turbo have any affect the spark plugs in anyway? I.e oily thread's?

are you from Ethiopia? just curious
Selam Selam! Indet nachu?
Great information

What about oil in the intercooler hose detroit 60 14l
That is usually caused by damaged valve seal or leaky turbocharger!
I have a sqwicking soind coming out of my turbo charger. What is the problem?
Sounds like turbine blades hitting the wall inside
Excessive turbo shaft play or deformed blades can cause squeaking noise if become in contact with the turbo walls!
Good job..
Thank you so much!
Where can i buy a kit to repair my turbocharger..in Kenya
Am not exactly sure dear! In some areas, finding turbo repair kit is challenging as spare part shops prefer to have the entire turbo.. instead of the kit!
My car burns 2 leter when arived 320km whats proplem
Could be caused by damaged turbo seal, worn out valve seal, or worn out cylinder and piston rings!
What is the solution to that we need solution please.

You said "turbo charger" so many times. I can't even finish watching this.
Sorry about that! Thank you for commenting! Pleasure to have you on our channel!
If all you heard was turbo charger, then you may be suffering from attention deficit disorder...😅
Doesn't matter how many times turbo charger is mentioned, did you want him to mention propeller??😎... Learn to listen and be keen...
👍👏
Thank you very much!
