Canon R5 Bad skin tones in Lightroom??; RAW vs JPEG (JPEG better?)

  • I have always felt that Lightroom does not do justice to skin tones when using canon RAW files. The JPEGs out of camera seem to render more natural skin tones. Canon's DPP software renders beautiful skin tones as well, however it is painfully slow to use. You can use presets as a work around in Lightroom, however I still find canon JPEG skin tones preferable. Please let me know if you have found a way to create JPEG-like skin tones in Lightroom.

In my opinion Lightroom has always suffered with good skin tones. That's one main reason why I've switched to Capture One years ago. Open the same raw file into Capture One and your (skin)colours looks so much more natural without any editing.

Yes. Jpeg out of camera or canon dpp renders it well.

I agree with everything here. Skin tones from RAW Canon files (1dx mII in my case) look horrific. I can't get them to look anywhere as good as the JPGs even with lots of experimentation in Camera Raw using Lightroom and/or Photoshop. Super disappointing for Canon and Adobe users who put lots of money into having the "best" image quality. Makes me wish I didn't have any Canon or Adobe products.

Agree 100%. DPP renders it well, but is too slow to use.

IMHO: When you put serious money for the best quality images, you don't use Lightroom

I wanted to switch from R5 to 1DX M3 hoping that I will get normal Canon colors and skintones but ….

The issue is that Canon has not released their color profile to Adobe.
