Agree: exposure warnings in Live Mode vs having to play the pic would be great. Did Canon respond?

I set up my r5 way back in August 2020 right after the r5 was released. However, it is still useful to review all of the options again in August 2023 (wow, the r5 is now 3 years old!). Thanks for making this video because it makes it easier and less boring to do it! Keep up the good work.
Thank you appreciate the comment. I know how did 3 years go by so fast. It still feels like I just bough this camera.
Very, very helpful. My R5 is on order and now I have enough info to set up in the manner that will be most useful to me. You did a lot of work putting this video together. Thank you.

You're welcome thanks for the comments. Much appreciated.
surprised you're not at 50k yet, your videos are awesome and very informative.
Working on it! You know what's funny I've been told that so many times. I don't know what's holding back my channel from taking off. Fingers crossed hopefully this year things really start to move forward. I appreciate the comment thank you. Happy New Year and thanks for the sub. Thanks for being part of the channel.
@@vaskoobscura_ anytime man. You helped me setup my new r5 and you made it simple.. and of course without an hour long video. So im very happy with your channel. Makes a lot of sense in the shortest amount of time. Cheers.
I have just up graded to R5 from a 5d mk3
I love the eye track but missed the old focus and recompose from the 5d 3. But after this video I have programmed the * button and absalutely love having the both now. I struggled at my first wedding with detail shots on the tables. But now this has helped so much. Cheers man.
Danny from the UK😁
I'm so happy to hear that this video helped you out. That's why I make these videos. Welcome to the channel. More R5 tips and tricks videos coming. BTW I used to shoot with a 5Dmk3 as well. The R5 is a really nice upgrade in image quality. Good luck with your weddings.
This was so clear and helpful. I'm a lifelong pro, renting this camera to see if I like it, and planning to try it at a job, while still shooting with my 5DMKIV. I didn't think I'd ever switch to mirrorless, but this setup info helped me get clear on all the menus and already I am seeing the advantages....
Thank you for the comment. Appreciate it. I was in the same boat when I switched from my DSLR to Mirrorless. The tech is slightly different and there is a bit of a learning curve but the advantages to mirrorless are very clear once you get used to it. Welcome to the channel.
I just upgraded from a 5Dmarkiii and this video was the perfect overview to get me acquainted with my new setup. Thanks!
You're welcome thank you for the comment. Much appreciated. This video took a long time to produce so it's great to see that it's helping people out. :)
@@vaskoobscura_ I can imagine. Thank you for producing it. Count me as one more subscriber on your for to 50k.
Just opened the box! Ha firmware what's firmware so just done thanks for that info. I wanted to set up and not worry so thank you for this. By the way I updated to
firmware 20. Just watched your video on back button too. Your amazing!!!!!!!
Glad I could help. That's why I make these videos. Welcome to the channel I have a lot of R5 content and more on the way. Have fun with your new camera.
My new R5 is actually arriving today... what an excellent timing, thanks! 👍📷
Set up your back buttons.
AF-ON (focus).
* (ONE-SHOT/ SERVO)
AF point Button (select different video modes)
M-fn button (Photo/video)
This is what I've done. Also I use the control ring (on lens) to select different focus options.
Amazing that is good timing. You're going to really enjoy shooing with your new camera. This video just goes over menu settings. I'll make another video about custom buttons soon :)
@@FlatWaterFilms All good suggestions.
@@vaskoobscura_ That's also most welcome! ...maybe even more important for me than the standard Canon menu settings, since I'm shooting Canon for a while now 😉
Where I used white balance is at Flinders Street Station where the Swanston Street end platforms are wholly lit with orange lights. I brought an 18% card and adjusted the camera to the orange lights and subsequent exposures looked like white lighting. (I dimly remember the 18% refers to B&W film?).
I'm a new user too, I've been hammering its research to calm the waiting before it arrives - I really appreciate your efforts here, I feel I'm more likely injecting my camera into its maximum potential. I'll be off to your blog next. Irrelevant I know but does Obscura reference the old projector?
Hi thanks for the comment. Glad you enjoyed the video. Welcome to the channel. It's a fictitious name I made up for the online personality. When I was in school I did a project on the early history of photography and the first camera made was called Camera Obscura so I chose to use that for my online work. Hope you're enjoying your new camera.
FYI: You cannot make a long exposure with electronic shutter. There is a shutter speed limitation on this feature.
Weeks ago I saw a video with an interesting approach about shutter closed or not, the guy said if dust get your sensor is much more easy to clean with well known methods than shutter that as you said it’s much more sensible.
Thanks for the comment. The nice thing about the shutter coming down is that it's active prevention. If you're changing lenses at a wedding you won't have to worry about dust getting on your sensor during the shoot and affecting all your images. :)
You mention that something about looking for focus spot in view finder could be issue. If you punch joy stick it will put focus point back to Center.
Yes you are right. You can double press the joystick to center the focus point. My point was based on speed when shooting live events. I just prefer to know where my focus point is when I rotate the camera so I don't miss a shot.
I just upgraded to the R5 from a 5D Mark IV, and even though I’ve walked through all the settings myself too, it was very nice to see real use cases for some of them from a photographer having this camera for so long! Thanks for making that video!
You're welcome. Thank you for the comment I really appreciate it. Glad you enjoyed the video.
tanxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx bro
Glad it helped.
Can I apply any of this to the canon r6 mkii?
For sure. Both cameras have similar menu options.
How did you get the Image Quality page?
Make sure you're in photo mode and make sure you are in manual mode. The R5 can be tricky because if you have it in Auto mode some menu features are not there.
Your firmware doesn't have IBS High resolution shot?
You know what, I thought I updated to the newest firmware but apparently I didn't. That's why the setting is not there.
Can u help? Where on the R5 does it show how many images are left on your card?
Top left corner beside the mode indicator. You might have to hit the "info" button to cycle through display modes if it's not showing up.
@@vaskoobscura_ Thank you very much for responding.
On the R5 I keep my WB shift, one bar over to the blue since the sensor is a bet on the reddish side.
That's interesting. I'll give that a try and see how it turns out. Thanks for the tip. Appreciate the comment.
Im finding that my camera keeps on defaulting to single picture mode which is very frustrating, it doesnt seem to stay in the high speed continuous mode
That's very strange a few thought that come to mind are: maybe your card is not fast enough to capture the data? Maybe you are using a C1, C2 or C3 and the preset isn't saved properly or maybe you have a button on the outside of the camera programmed to go to single shot and you're accidently pressing it. I've never had that issue before but those are some things that came to mind. Hope that helps.
ISO or ASA was a type of film, high ISO film was called “fast film”.
You skipped over the metering timer. That was one I was specifically waiting to learn about.
Thanks for the comment. The metering timer. I'll have to look into that and figure out what that's all about for another video.

Just bought my Eos R5 yesterday, it's all set up,( thanks to you )🥰👍🧔 Hope it works as good as my 5DSR🧔
The R5 is a beauty of a camera. You're going to love using it and you're going to really love how sharp the new RF glass is. Thanks for the comment. Welcome to the channel.
