    Dear Dr. Gundry, I‘m following your lectin free diet for almost 4 years and I‘m pretty happy. However, as an amateur athlete/cyclist I have an increased need in carbs and glucose to provide enough energy. I find myself often in doubt when trying to consume high carb foods especially after this podcast. I would appreciate an episode or some recommendations from your end as to what one can do to provide the body with enough energy without negatively impacting the gut bacteria. It starts with eating foods made of tapioca flour to increase carb intake which is basically sugar according to this podcast, followed by consuming maltodextrin during work outs. I‘ve been producing my own energy bars made of dried figs, coconut oil, and millet but in the end everything is high in carbs and potentially sugar. Thanks in advance

    • @theleopard3310
      @theleopard3310 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would be shocked if Dr. Gundry has any positive thing to say about maltodextrin. It's super high on the glycemic index, and yet it's not classified as a sugar. It's like a wolf in sheep's clothing.

    • @DubaiDon
      @DubaiDon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@theleopard3310 I don't think there is anything good to say about maltodextrin but as an athlete you rely on food that has a high glycemic index to provide you with a fast source of energy. I'm just wondering what this is doing to your holobiome and if there are any alternatives.

    • @LaoiseAnne

      Follow his Keto diet. When your body switches to consume fats for energy instead of carbs your body is getti g a MUCH better source of energy. His Keto diet is not the typical keto diet. I've been following it for about 6months and my energy levels are up and my hormones are now balanced. I love it! You have togohrough the "keto flu" (when your body is making the switch from carbs as fuel to fats and you feel lousy) but its worth it!

    • @leg_works
      @leg_works ปีที่แล้ว +1

       @Laoise Ashford thanks for your reply. I've pretty much reduced carb intake for a while to a point where I get carbs only from starchy vegetables or tubers. I have completely stopped preparing foods using flour or consuming simple carbs. Nevertheless, having enough energy for your normal day is something else than 4-5hrs of high intensity workout on the bike where I usually burn 2,500-3,500 kcal easy. There is no doubt that by now I have a flexible metabolism as I follow 16/8 or 18/6 fasting pretty much every day and have skipped eating for 36-48hrs without any problems. Still, when it comes to cycling I can't rely on burning fat exclusively. I'm still using a drink mix high in maltodextrin and fructose. They only way I'm comforting myself (and where I've seen an improvement) is that my gut seems to be accepting the drink mix much better than before. My reasoning is that due to cutting the carbs (and other bad food), the lining of the gut and my bacteria is in a much better shape than before and when I'm having the malto/fructose drink mix, thus it can better deal with it. Also, I try to limit high intensity workouts that require me to consume such drinks to max. 2 per week, mostly just once per week. But that's all just my perception and imagination and not founded on science. 🙈

    After doing keto/low carb I decided that all the keto bars, cookies, cakes etc were not helping my diet or weight loss. I switched to intermittent fasting 2 meals and quit snacking. I have a bulletproof coffee with mct oil and grass fed butter to break fast. I have green smoothies with meals. Lots of greens 1/4 organic blueberries or high quality beet powder, olive oil, ice, water blended.
    I also add grass fed collagen, acerola powder, inulin powder.
    Make sure I get enough protein. Short walk before I break fast.

    Dr. Gundry, As usual amazing podcast. Kudos to you. One comment I would like to make. If you eat a lot of fruits immediately prior to your meal, it actually lowers your blood sugar. It does just the opposite if you eat fruits after your meal. This has been experimented in India and people have been able to lower their blood sugar significantly and could get rid of T2 diabetes. Their diet plan in brief 1. Eat only plenty of fruits seasonal up until lunch.
    2. Eat raw greens or fruits prior to your lunch and follow by regular meal.
    3. Eat raw greens ( only vegetables no fruits) prior to your dinner and then follow with your regular meal.
    How much fruit or vegetables you need to eat prior to lunch or dinner depends upon your weight. A strict guideline is there based on body weight. More amount than min. Is better not the less. Also, a min. of 50 gms of leafy greens is required among yr raw vegetables. This diet plan has been very successful in curing people ( large number) of serious ailments including diabetes. I thought you may be interested to investigate.
    Best regards.

      In the book Plant Paradox dr. Gundry wrote that figs and dates have a good amount of prebiotic sugar. So it feeds our gutflora. In this video he tells that allulose is found in figs. So maybe that is the sweetness that we obtain from dates as well? But dates do have a lot of fructose too. Since everybody reacts differently to foods, maybe it would be best to measure your bloodsugar level after eating a date. And notice if it stops your sweet craving or stimulates.

    • @kst157
      @kst157 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dorinnaforest8937 Thank you kindly. Figs give me severe bloating (almost nothing else ever does) so it’s one item (can’t think of anything else) that I wouldn’t eat even if it it’s healthy. nowadays it is mostly made from corn stalk. Look for the non-GMO version. Half of xylitol is still carb and it does not feed our gutflora (maybe even kills some off), so use sparingly.. Better than xylitol: inuline, pure dried leaf powder of stevia, munkfruit, allulose.

      Start by eliminating/greatly decreasing the veggie "nightshade" family:. Tomatoes, Potatoes (not the Sweet Potato), Peppers, Eggplant). You should see improvement soon. Gluten is other offender. Some ethnic cuisines are quite heavy in these, such as Mexican and Italian (tomatoes). All cuisines use varying forms of pepper. But the good news is that the veggie world is very diverse and one can find satisfying alternatives/substitutes.

      Allulose. Maybe you will react best to inuline (made from chicory), munkfruit and the pure powdered leaf of stevia. You even can grow it yourself. I use it, mixed with inuline, to make my own candy (bonbons) with coconut butter, cacao powder and vanilla, some cacao nibs. Tastes grate..

Maybe its from the maltodextrin that was made from corn that splenda uses. Yes things are misleading but that's why you have to look into the studies and see what they are doing and how. But they love to call sucralose splenda when there really isn't much in it. They do that with alot of things

    Kombucha, Lactic Acid Bacteria, Kefir, etc.... those of us that make fermented drinks know we feed them SUGAR. And these are good gut friends we are feeding. I especially feed them fructose and lactose. You need to explain this one day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • @dorinnaforest8937
      @dorinnaforest8937 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what I understood dr. Gundry does explain this when he advises to use the sugar that is a special food for our gut-flora, since they can ferment it easily: inuline, allulose, and (in the book the plant paradox) he mentions pre-biotic carbs from special tubers and gums as well. Of course our microbiome would also gladly eat fructose and lactose. But if you yourself eat fructose and lactose and other sugars,it will first travel to our blood and raises our triglycerides, feeds fungi like candida, etc. Better only use that in the kitchen to ferment food indeed.

    put 16 oz of erythritol in a jar. add to this the appropriate amount of stevia, such that for 1 tsp of erythritol there is 1 dose of stevia. shake to mix.
