  • If you or someone you know has had cancer, this episode is going to matter to you. And since the odds are now that 1 in 3 adults in the US will get cancer, this really is a topic that matters to all of us.
    The school of thought around cancer used to be focused only on the genetic component. But we now know that our environment-the air we breathe, the food we eat, even our relationships-have an enormous cellular impact on our ability to prevent and treat cancer.
    I’m excited to sit down with Dr. Jason Fung on this episode of The Doctor’s Farmacy to talk about his amazing work in the field of cancer research and why this environmental component should give us all hope.
    Dr. Fung is a physician, author, and researcher. His groundbreaking science-based books about diabetes and obesity, The Diabetes Code, The Obesity Code, and The Complete Guide to Fasting have sold over one million copies and challenged the conventional wisdom that diabetics should be treated with insulin. Dr. Fung is also the co-founder of The Fasting Method, a program to help people lose weight and reverse type 2 diabetes naturally with fasting. His latest book, The Cancer Code: A Revolutionary New Understanding of a Medical Mystery, was just released.
    This episode is brought to you by Bioptimizers, Thrive Market, Apeel.
    Bioptimizers’ Magnesium Breakthrough formula contains 7 different forms which all have different functions in the body. There is truly nothing like it on the market. Right now you can try Bioptimizers Magnesium Breakthrough for 10% off, just go to bioptimizers.com/hyman and use the code HYMAN10 at checkout.
    Right now, Thrive is offering all Doctor's Farmacy listeners an amazing deal. Select a free gift from Thrive Market when you sign up for a 1 year membership. And, any time you spend more than $49 you’ll get free carbon-neutral shipping. Just head over to thrivemarket.com/Hyman.
    Food waste is one of our most glaring environmental, climate, and social problems. Apeel, a family of plant-derived coatings that, when applied to the outside of produce, keeps it fresh two times longer, is doing amazing things to extend the shelf life of fruits and vegetables. How come our pets, for instance, have cancers often although they do not eat sugar, or refined carbs? My pets (dogs and cats) only eat meat, raw meat. They are carnivorous, like woolves and tigers. And although they eat such a clean food, without any preservatives, coloring and flavoring, they do often get cancers in different part of they bodies. Just like us.

    I had triple negative breast cancer 3 years ago. I opted out of all conventional medicine and treated myself. I used to eat a ton of dairy, bread and meat (cold cuts). Also had a glass of wine daily. I stopped all of that and went to plant based, mostly fruit. I then ordered organic apricot kernels aka B17 Laetrile. I started jumping on a trampoline to move the lymphatic system, I hung upside down from an inversion table and used my sauna every other day. I also took cannabis oil for 3 months. Cancer and all tumors around the cancer are now gone. I'm going to be released from care in May. We can put cancer into remission on our own without the deadly drugs -- just do a little research!

    My mother died from lung cancer at age 69 about 7 years ago. When they were about to do a PET scan they said don’t eat any sugar for 3 days - protein centric diet during that time - and then we will pump you full of a sugary liquid and watch the cancerous areas light up. So I turned to the doctor and asked “so does that mean cancer feeds on sugar?” He danced all around answering the question and then said “well, it’s complicated.” But basically yes. But telling people to not eat sugar doesn’t make money.

      While there are a few cancers that can feed off fat, 80% of cancers feed off sugar. Sugar is sugar. Carbs are also sugar. Fruits are sugar. Veggies are sugar. Grain is sugar. Whether its a whole wheat english muffin or a piece of birthday cake, your body doesn’t care, your insulin is going to spike w/ either one because if its not sugar to start w/ it will get turned into glucose at the end anyhow.

My patients that change their diets are amazed! I have found cancer in many patients and the specialists I send them to always dismiss my recommendation to change their diet. That they can help kill cancer with a clean diet. The specialists always tell the patient not to concentrate on it. It’s unfortunate.

There is no pill to fix things, just you, you’re in charge of your life. I wish when people know better they do better, but, this is not the case, they want an easy fix.

    Incredibly informative. Thank you for sharing this information with us. I learned about the cancer sugar connection AFTER my breast cancer diagnosis. While I’m doing well now following traditional “slash and burn” treatment I am absolutely DISGUSTED that my beloved Oncologist NEVER questioned my diet. Never. Had she done so, she would have found that despite my “fit” appearance, I was consuming ridiculous amounts of sugar every day. Starbucks Frappacinnos, Krispy Kreme, orange juice, ice cream cones … and a very bread heavy diet. It was a disaster. I was gifted with a new Oncologist who put me on Keto/Intermittent fasting to help with my 18 lb fat gain following radical hysterectomy. This is when I learned of the sugar cancer connection. He knew it! Why didn’t she? Thank God for Dr. Fung for bringing to light this information.

      Orange juice has around 9 grams of sugar per 100ml of juice. That sugar is mostly fructose, which has to be transformed in your liver to glucose. The insulin spike is moderate, and has nothing to do with the insulin spike caused by a sugared soft drink. Demonizing natural sugar, mostly fructose, contained in fruit is just as wrong as demonizing fat or demonizing carbohydrates. Actually the fact itself of thinking food in terms of "sugars", "proteins", "fat", "calories" is wrong, as the video shows. Your choice to cure your cancer with fasting and ketosis is certainly right, but your problem was not the little fructose, but the ice creams, the Kripsy Kremes, the Frappaccinos etc.

    Yup! I had two unrelated cancers and I am not genetically prone for cancer. Years After the first cancer, I realized I had T2. I tried to figure things out by myself, never thought to check out TH-cam. Then I got ovarian cancer and had a lot of down time and found so much info on TH-cam. I had a mission and the determination to follow through. I am now a diet controlled T2, I don’t cheat, ever! So then I learned that diabetes can cause cancer. Light bulb moment! I then went on a stricter keto to starve cancer. I get blood work every 6 months to check for this cancer marker. This marker had always been 6.something. The doctor said I didn’t have to worry as long as this number didn’t go up. Well, last week my number went down to 4. ‘4’! What I’m doing is working! Because of my lifestyle change, my eye sight is improving, my eczema is gone, and my alopecia has not only stopped, my hair is back. Looking back on my life, I probably had diabetes issues since my 20s, I am now 65. I am doing everything I can not yo get cancer a 3rd time. I have friends who have or had cancer treatment. I even have a friend who has medical problems after cancer treatments and cord blood transplant. She know how well I’m doing yet says she could never do what I’m doing. I honestly don’t understand this mindset. Personally, I would do almost anything to get and stay healthy.
    FYI - I was a healthy eater. I ate a lot of beans, not a lot of potatoes, whole grains, lots of fruit, etc. My friends always joked that I ate so healthy. My before healthy diet was literally killing me. I no longer eat any of that and I truly loved dry beans.

      Great job ! I agree with you… I don’t understand people who abuse their body and don’t want to change. I have a neighbor who literally said to me “who cares, we’re all going to die anyway”. And I said “but why be miserable the last 5-25 years of your life? I don’t want to have cancer, I don’t want type 2 diabetes and then have ti be at Drs offices all the time, and prescription drugs and in and out of hospitals etc”. She just rolled her eyes at me. So I gave her a good analogy of preventative measures … I asked her if she looks bothe ways before crossing the street. She laughed at me and said “of course !” I asked why, since she’s throwing fate to the wind with her diet and smoking. I mean, we’re just going to die anyway 😉😜

    Dr Thomas Seyfried has for decades being explaining cancer as a metabolic disease. A much smaller dosage of chemo is effective if the patient can be in Ketogenic state. Not supported in developed world or where oncology specialists treat but for late stage patients who are unable to stand higher doses, clinics outside like in Turkey, south east asia focus on such patients. So amazing that side effects from cancer treatment can be controlled through just diet. But no treatment center in the modern hospitals will give this advice to reduce the suffering.

    Mark, I just watched this interview with Jason and found it so useful I have passed it on to several friends. At the 37 minute mark of the interview you and Jason talked about environmental chemicals that can lead to cancer. That really made me sit up and take notice. I am aware of several acquaintances who have dealt with or succumbed to various cancers and one thing they had in common was a lot of time spent on golf courses. Golf courses I understand are high consumers of sprayed chemicals to keep the pests at bay and the grass growing well, and golfers are in constant contact with the grass through their golf balls, clubs, and shoes. I wonder if you know if there has been any studies done regarding a correlation between high cancer rates and time spent on golf courses as a golfer or maintenance person.

    • @marktapley7571
      @marktapley7571 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is about the stupidest thing I have ever read. Golf courses are mowed and weed eated, thats about all. Most of these people you mentioned are probably OLD. They are more susceptible to cancer as they age like everyone else.

    • @JohnAZiraldo
      @JohnAZiraldo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@marktapley7571 Sorry Mark but they were all middle aged and very active golfers. I am not claiming that there is a link. I am simply asking if there has been any related research. One should not be called stupid for asking a question.
      Here is a possibly stupid question for you. Why are Canadian homeowners not able to get a lot of the lawn care and fruit tree pest control products that are available in the US or only to commercial operations in Canada? Please don't tell me we are too stupid to handle them properly. I would find that stupid.

    • @marktapley7571
      @marktapley7571 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JohnAZiraldo Please accept my apologies for using the word stupid. I just thought it strange to associate being on the golf course with carcinogens. Cancer originates when the process of adult stem cells (indeterminate cells) are brought to the site in order to repair damage as with smoking or some other stress. If vitamin B17 is not present, the juvenile cells will not become differentiated and therefore will just continue to grow. Too much carbohydrate causes too much insulin (growth hormone) causing inflammation resulting in possible cancer. As we gat older the body has less steam cells and is less able to repair the damage. This process was discovered in the 1950's by the biological researcher Ernest Krebbs. The basic process has been known since the early 1900's. Big Pharma and the medical racket don't want to cure anything but rather just treat it. They definitely don't want the use of natural substances as preventatives.
      As far as pesticide availability I know that here in the U.S, the licensed applicators want to keep their tools from being accessed by the public so you have to call them instead. At one time I went through the process of getting an applicator license for use on my own property but it got to be too much trouble. The "professionals" know this.
      Our biggest threat now is the long planned covid scam. Not 1 lab in the world has isolated or identified this fake virus with it's fake PCR test and the CDC's fake numbers. The AIDS "epidemic" and all the other fake flus were precursors to the present scam. The Zionists are conditioning the livestock to accept the unconstitutional attacks on our natural rights in order to gain total control of society as they destroy the middle class. This medical fraud has been planned for years but was sprung now for market reasons as a cover for the banking cartels theft of trillions more for their friends on Wall St. as they did in 08-09.

There are so many alternative therapies out there nowdays. In Riga, Latvia (eastern Europe) they use something called RigVir (Riga Virus) which kills cancer cells but leaves healthy cells unaffected (chemo kills all cells and the patient in the end). I heard about RigVir in an online cancer webinar a few years ago which was organized by Ty Bollinger, there is a website with a lot of good info for anybody interested. I also bought his book. He has traveled the world to interview ppl about cancer and different therapies. (I think I got cancer from the nuclear power plant disaster in Chernobyl, Russia which exploded in 1986 and the wind spread the fallout all across Europe and Scandinavia where I lived at the time. I was a vegan (ate a lot of veggies) so the cancer was slow growing. I was diagnosed when I moved to the US and had chemo and radiation here. The treatment destroyed my immune system and later I got an autoimmune disease (of the bladder) and after that problems with my intestines. I have been disabled for 10 yrs now, sitting on a chair mostly. So that's the result of chemo and radiation. If it doesn't kill you instantly, it will kill you eventually.)

      @@marktapley7571 Whoa - it is very real. Look at the verified death rates in the EU, Australia, Canada. The hospital ICU wards are near or at capacity. Tale a look tr the Scandinavian countries as 1 has up to 7 X the death rate of 1. And variants of the others. Believe me, this is very real.

    Every time I go to d grocery I look at all d food items n I can say if not with d advent of social media where d latest heath views r communicated to d people I would not be as discreet as what I am now focusing on what I put on my cart. N with all nutritive labeling I get more confused. Thank u with people like u who reach out to disseminate reliable info. D knowledge before on nutrition is archaic but d irony d handed basic knowledge of our parents n grandparents hold true up to now yet they did not even go for higher education. Sugar is almost everywhere but I am choosing now where d source is like not too ripe fruits that r full of nutrients too aside from fibers. Again thank u.

    I know sugar is a terrible addiction. If you do sugar, make sure to alkaline your body with a little food grade baking soda in a glass of water before bed. Make sure you have digested your food prior!

    Dr. Hyman, your show is top notch, but your breathing into the microphone while your guest is talking is very distracting.

    Eyebrows raised when Dr Fung says surgery, radiation, chemo a logic used in the 70’s!!!! Then he moves to 80’s the next treatment era. We seem to be frozen in time as ordinary citizens ? Chemo surgery radiation is still majority of global treatment for millions. How far behind can medicine be in practice?

      Look up Goodbyelupus.com. Fabulous doctor who accidentally cured her own Lupus and now helps people cure all of their diseases. Says your body is a healing machine. It knows how to heal itself if you give it the right nutrients. Whole plant foods. Raw at first No animal foods they are inflammatory to the body. All on line. You just eat it and your body heals. Can eat the foods or drink them in your smoothie. Mostly leafy greens and cerciferous veggies. Lots of water and omega 3 in avacados and chia and flax seeds. Debbi

    I'll list some of the things that I avoid besides sugar and refined carbohydrates:
    Artificial sweeteners:
    Acesulfame K (brand names: Sunett and Sweet One)
    Aspartame (two brand names: Equal and Nutrasweet)
    Saccharin (two brand names: Sweet 'N Low and Sweet Twin)
    Sucralose (brand name: Splenda)
    Stevia is good, but the taste is 'different' so some people don't like it. Xylitol and Erythritol are sugar alcohols and they are OK. Monkfruit is fine too.
    All 'seed' oils are BAD; soybean, canola, corn, 'vegetable oil'. I stick to Olive Oil, Coconut Oil and butter.

    The environment, nutrition, also I've often wondered if vaccines grown in animal cells - being injected into people could have anything to do with the rise in cancer bc we're receiving the animal viruses as well as the other ingredients. This could be how a lot of animal viruses are jumping into the human population. I hope more effort will be made to clean up vaccines in the future.

    If it is true that cancer cells travel via the blood stream, why is donated blood not screened for cancer cells, and why is the public not being warned by the health authorities of the risks of coming in contact with the blood of a cancer patient?
    If it is true that cancer cells migrate via the blood stream, why are cancers of the blood vessel walls or of the heart not the most frequent cancers, since those are the tissues that would be most exposed to cancer cells traveling in the blood and lymph?
    If it is true that cancer cells metastasize to other organs by way of the lymph system, how is it possible that a "metastasizing" cancer develops in the lungs or in the bones (statistically the most frequent sites of "metastatic tumors"), although these tissues are not supplied with lymph fluid?
    If it is true that secondary tumors are caused by cancer cells migrating through the blood or lymph system, why do cancer cells of a primary tumor rarely travel to adjacent tissues, for example, from the uterus to the cervix or from the bones to neighboring muscle tissue?
    Cancer has a meaningful, biological purpose. The location of the cancer tells you who and what caused it.

      Based on his book, and what he discusses in this video, Cancer is not a separate type of cell but our own cells that have turned cancerous. So, you don’t “catch” cancer, you get cancer based on your own actions and health care.
