There are some cut scenes of Margot and Jared here on YT, and they are downright chilling. They make the Joker seem like a horror movie villain which is completely appropriate imo, but also explains why the other actors were wary around him. Jared said that Aayer shot more than 40 hours worth of film of him and Margot as Harley and Joker. In the extended cut, the Joker appears on screen for about eleven minutes. So I completely understand why he resents WB and DC. If they hadn't been trying to imitate Marvel, SS 2016 could have been amazing.

I think the Ayer version at least sounds quite a bit deeper and more visceral. If it is indeed all he wanted to do, I think it may have been a pretty solid film. The character development sounds better, especially with Harley and Joker. Probably not spectacular, with all the meddling still at hand, but seems like worth a watch!

My favorite of the Jared Leto-Suicide Squad set stories is the one where Viola Davis’ husband told Jared to his face that if he tried any of those stunts on his wife then he would kick his ass on sight. Jared did not mess with Viola not a single time for the duration of that shoot😂

So WB wanted Ayer's Suicide Squad to look like Guardians of the Galaxy. Then when they reboot The Suicide Squad, they bring in the very Director of Guardians of the Galaxy. They like it so much, they want him to reboot the entire DCEU as the DCU. The Director of The Suicide Squad then tells the Director of Suicide Squad that his true vision will be released as it should have been. We'll see if Gunn keeps his word.

To this day I have mixed feelings about Leto’s Joker. I feel like if Affleck had gotten his solo film, and in said film there were scenes that explored the history between Affleck’s Batman and Leto’s Joker that Ayer himself mentioned in interviews (the Robin costume shown in BvS, and Joker’s grille which was caused by Batman literally knocking his teeth out with his steel knuckled gloves) that his version of the character might have been much better. It’s unfortunate that we’ll never know now, for either of their respective versions of the character. Not to mention Joe Mangianello’s Deathstroke

To be fair, there are stinkers when the studio didn't mess with the creator's vision and gave him the full reign. And when the stuff is good nobody says, well, that's because the studio forced major changes and it was for the better. It's when the things go south people start pointing fingers and usually those fingers land on the studio

I think the main issue was Suicide Squad had too much going on. I think it would've been easier if the premise was "Amanda Waller test her Task Force X by having them hunt down The Batman. As they do however, they come into conflict with Gotham's Clown Prince of Crime and a member of their own team" so the world ending scope is changed for a just crazy enough action film

But there was no reason at all to FORCE Blue Beetle!!! Like why?!?!?
He's a NEW character why not wait and have him be part of the new continuity???
If the movie is mostly finished and ready to go how about you hold onto it wait, and maybe do a few reshoots and touch ups. Release it AFTER you start your new universe and tie this new character into it.

I'm sure the Ayer cut would have been better than what we got, but it still sounds like it has many of the same problems that the studio version does- the entire premise of the Squad being assembled for black-ops missions only to spend the rest of the movie hunting their own renegade teammate, Amanda Waller being dangerously incompetent but still presented as a mastermind, "that" version of The Joker, the whole idea of making a Suicide Squad so early in the DCEU timeline in the first place, the DCEU starting off after Jason Todd has been murdered, Deadshot being more of an anti-hero than a proper villain...
I'd be mildly interested in seeing it, but it sounds like a film that was flawed from the outset.

To this day, I say that Jared Leto's Joker was underrated and underutilized. His Joker was a modern day Golden Age Joker( the clown prince of crime, not the bronze age homicidal maniac that Ledger and Phoenix portrayed.) I loved the design, the tatoos the grills replacing the teeth that Batman knocked out, the slicked back hair, suits, clothes, chains guns cars, and henchmen. It all screamed that this Joker had a value for money and power. These things also enhance and feed into the themes of possesion, and control that the Joker exudes towards Harley, which was apart of their original dynamic in TAS. I also loved how good he pulled off the comic book frame refrenceces in the movie, that shot of him with his face burnt hair ruined in the tux looks just like the Joker in the Batman Endgame comic which released not too long before Suicide Squad was released. I really hope people one day come to understand how unique and refreshing Jared Leto's Joker was so we can see another Joker like this in the future.

I'd be very much down with seeing an Ayer cut. I'm not sure if it was different in any version, but I really laughed out loud when Boomerang got up and left at the end of the big inspirational bar scene. Very funny, but completely undercut when he just pops back up in the slow mo hero shot in the very next scene. I don't think a great version of The Suicide Squad exists, but I'd wager the Ayer cut will bump it up a notch.

They cut a lot of his El Diablo's story(which was personally connected to David Ayer because he was in the gangbanging lifestyle and turn his life around to be a director) when he was supposed to be the main focus being an ex gangbanger supervillain that accidentally killed his family with his superpowers and was going to be useful to the world by turning into his full fire demon hold back Steppenwolf and stall the invasion and live.

I also enjoyed Shazam! and Birds of Prey a lot: A great oldschool children's adventure movie with family values, and a great MacGuffin-chasin' brutal action dark comedy with a manic-psychotic anti-villain as unreliable tall-tale narrator and your typical evil Gothamites chewing the scenery. Especially the last one is totes underrated, might gain a cult following over the coming years - hopefully. I like how it is so bright and colorful, and still has the meanest villains yet, and such a toxic dynamic duo at that. The portrayal of Gotham City as a dog eat dog world is spot on, and yet Harley treats it like it's her personal playground. Such a hoot. Might be my second favourite Gotham on the big screen, right after Batman Returns and slightly ahead of Joker. Oh, and speaking of Joker - such a great movie as well - I loved the set design, the direction, the performances - DeNiro finally back to form instead of just phoning it in.
DC can be great, just give single movies to good filmmakers and trust their vision.

Ayer's original version of Suicide Suicide may not be a perfect movie, but I believe at least could be a more cohesive product, the pacing and editing would be better, the story would make a lot more sense and would be accurate to the first trailer released in Comic Con, that was the movie I wanted to see and not some butchered version by the studio with shitty editing, lazy reshoots and forced humor put into it. I hope this version gets released one day.
You could try to talk about some of Flash's cancelled projects, Warner was trying to make a Flash movie since the 80s basically, just to end up on that disaster released this year. The most notorious ones are the David Goyer version, that would have Ryan Reynolds as Wally West, and the Greg Berlanti one, with the same team of writers responsable for the first version of Green Lantern script, later on they also started to develop the Arrowverse on the CW and Berlanti put a lot of elements of his Flash movie script in the first season of The Flash show. The two scripts are available online and both are MUCH better than the crap version that came out this year. Also would be fun if you talk about the cancelled Green Arrow project "Escape From Supermax", this would have been a pretty violent movie with Oliver Queen trying to escape this prison called Supermax and a lot of C-list villains from DC would have appeared, the script is full available online. Also Warner wanted Matt Damon to play the role of Green Arrow in this movie. Another DC cool project that never see the light of day is Guillhermo Del Toro's Justice League Dark, starring John Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman, Swamp Thing and Etrigan, the script is also online, and that one leaked just 2 years ago I believe.

One of the things that I said from the beginning was that it was so odd that Suicide Squad was the 3rd movie in the DC Extended Universe yet had nothing to do with the storylines set up in Man of Steel and BvS (outside of that extremely tacked on and illogical post credit scene between Waller and Wayne).
I wondered why they didn’t have the SS go after some international terrorist or something only to find out he was in possession of a Mother Box and being assisted by Parademons, which would have tied into Justice League later.
Clearly Ayer had something like that in mind and the “design by committee” at WB botched it.
Also it might have worked with Snyder’s JL too: introduce the Mother Box, Parademons, and Steppenwolf in SS, but have Enchantress be the ultimate Steppenwolf minion at the end, and set up JL as Steppenwolf teases a larger invasion.
It would have tied to Snyder’s cut just fine.
All of this goes to show that Snyder and Ayers had a better sense of story arcs, styles, and that universe than any DC/WB Executive ever did.

Another example of WB sabotaging their own project because the new leadership at that time was attempting to change direction mid contract with the creative talent, instead of trusting their process and following their lead. SS was supposed to be something like Fury and Training Day and everything else Ayers has created. WB and especially the internet media coverage was absolutely horrible, constantly pushing blame onto the director when it’s obvious who was dropping the ball.

The studio moving on from Snyder to finish Justice League made sense, because Snyder had to leave the movie for personal reasons. Whedon was brought in without a lot of time to make something out of it and it didn't help that the movie was heavily micromanaged by Warner Bros to make it even worse. What the studio did to Ayer made absolutely no sense and made for a disjointed, hot mess of a movie.

This 100% the studios fault. I've seen Training Day and that's proof that Ayer knows how to direct a movie, it's so good it won an academy award for best actor (Denzel Washington) but the studio wanted their own Guardians of the Galaxy so bad that they threw away something potentially great.

  • @HerbCoswellBornAgain
    @HerbCoswellBornAgain 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

Brutally honestly, while I do hope the Ayer Cut gets released one day, not only to see the differences to the Theatrical Version on screen and out of Morbid Curiosity, but also because I believe every directors original vision should be seen regardless of the qaulity, I also don't think his cut would be that good.
I mean, yeah, sure it would be better then the Theatrical Version (hell, anything would be better then the Theatrical Version of Suicide Squad 2016, that's one of the reasons I love James Gunns The Suicide Squad, because it's literally just a better version of the concept), we also have to remember, Ayer is the same man who gave us not so great and outright bad films like Sabotage, Fury, Tax Collectors, and Bright. He's not the same director who gave us Training Day and End of Watch anymore and like M. Night Shyamalan, Damian Chazelle, and Michael Bay, his newer films are just not great.
Not to mention, I'd argue this situation is slightly different to that of JL, with Justice League, almost the entirety of Snyders original vision was changed into what Whedon gave us in 2017 with very little from Snyders Version remaining, to the point where it almost feels a different film. With Suicide Squad, while not all of Ayers stuff was left in, a good amount of it is still there. Granted spliced with reshoot stuff and also heavily edited to Cringe levels of Nauseum, but still.
Meaning while yes it would be a better made film, the Ayer Cut I feel would not only still have some of the same problems the Theatrical cut did, but also it I still feel it wouldn't be enough to save it from being a bad movie, or at least a mid movie, because like I said, anything, and I mean ANYTHING, is better then the Theatrical cut. It also means more Jared Leto Joker which...no, just.....just no.
With this said, I still hope the Ayer Cut is released one day, even though I wonder how Gunn is going to do it. He can't make it canon to his universe, because that would mean the Death of Superman already happened by the time Superman Legacy occurs, and also there's alot of stuff in SS 2016 (the Ayer Cut I mean) that I think would contradict the new DCU, and even TSS 2021 for that matter.
So it have to be an Elseworlds Labelled title, but Margot Robbie plays Harley Quinn as well in the Ayer Cut, and Gunn will most likely be staying for the new DCU, so I wonder how Gunn will be able to release and have it be a Elseworlds Labelled film without confusing people.

A slight side track but within the realm; could you consider creating a reaction tribute to the late and amazing Kevin Conroy? On November 15th will be the first anniversary of his death. He was the sole reason I got into acting. I have a voice acting background and there are some preconceived notions that it's not as demanding as regular acting; but the vocal training itself and perfecting the craft may take more time than any acting school. l feel like he's a bit underrated as Batman (ditto Mark Hamill as Joker) and even non existent in the conversation when the motion pictures are brought up. PS. You almost saw me as Leon in those new Resident Evil games :)
