    I can’t speak for everyone else, but I never get tired of looking at rocks! It always amazes me that you can look at a rock that is so dark on the outside and be fairly sure it will be cool on the inside. To me, a lot of them just look like dark rocks... I guess it comes with experience. Also enjoyed the kitties. 😻

      Yes, many hours and hours of scouring the riverbanks, and many hours more of slicing them up. Sometimes the dark ones are the most beautiful!

    Beautiful slabs Kate! I would just put the slabs on tripods and place them on windowsills to catch the light. They are so gorgeous just the way they are!

    Love your cats. I have one that is my grandson’s cat, but she lives with us. 19 years old. Have 2 small dogs, one is mine, and the other is my Son’s, but stays with us when he works. Poor thing has serious separation anxiety and can be left alone. I seems to end up with pets when family pass, just can not let them be put down because of grieving. They just need time to grieve just like people do.

    My goodness, what amazing beauty! There certainly was a lot of metal going into the formation of the Montana agate. It's fascinating that the process of forming inclusions has to do with a gradual seeping in of the mineral. However it happens it sure is gorgeous! Thank you for an in depth look at one of your humongous agates!

    I am just loving the different views on this Montana agate! Beautiful work! I am surprised it stayed together with all the fractures. Will be curious to see what comes of it. My dog helps find rocks.

      Sometimes the fractures "self heal," which helps hold them together. They are still weak spots, though.

    That's the kind of rock saw my local lapidary has. We have stacks of wedges to use we can get in the tightest position.
    Lucky you that you get one for home.
    I just have a wet tile saw at home. Good things happening in your world.

      Are the wedges wood? I think it would be handy to be able to wedge stuff - sometimes there are rocks that make it hard to put them in the vice. :)

      @@KatyDidRocks yes they are wooden some 2×6 some with carved out edges and slant cut to help fitting them in tightly.
      And I totally can't understand smashing rocks. However most people don't think about wet saw or otherwise like your saw..
      Too impatient to cut and then they are destroyed

    This was fascinating. As you were holding the pieces up to the light, I thought how pretty it would be to make a mobile out of the slabs and then hang it in front of a window. They're so pretty and unusual. Thanks for sharing! (Pretty kitties, too! I have one that looks almost identical to the grey and white one.)

    So beautiful so you do use a vise to help to keep the rocks steady on while using the wet saw just considering getting one and little sensitive about my fingers:-)

      The blades are actually very safe - you can touch it while it’s rotating without getting hurt. You CAN cut yourself one a tile saw - but you would have to work at it.

    You may already know this but here goes: My rock club in Vegas buys mineral oil that is rejected. It is much cheaper. You can drop those cut slabs into some oil absorbent (cat litter works) then wash them with Dawn. Fast and easy. That is such a beautiful stone. You did good. Havagudun to you.

      How does one go about buying rejected mineral oil? Currently it costs about $100 per 5 gallons, which lasts me a little while, since I drain the sludge into a paper sack and let the clean oil seep back out - but I'd love to pick some up cheaper. :)

      @@KatyDidRocks It will be a couple of months before I am back there but I will see how they buy it for you. Also, they buy 55 gallons at a time. They have 7 big saws and 2 trim saws so that may be the only way to buy it. . I would guess they buy it from a food distributor.

      I actually rediscovered an agate I found years ago that was 9+ pounds. I cut it the way I did because that was how it fit best in the saw. :'D I am glad you enjoy the videos - be sure to sub if you haven't!

    I can't help thinking that if those agate slabs were stabilized and cut into specific shapes, a stained glass artist could turn them into a beautiful window or lampshade.

      @@KatyDidRocks I believe I would try the thinnest version of Hot Stuff brand super glue on the fracture lines on both sides of a slab, gluing and then spraying each side with a blast of NCF Quick spray to set the glue instantly. And then grind/polish each side to remove any excess glue.

      @@KatyDidRocks Does the epoxy become yellow with age or exposure to UV light? I know that the Hot Stuff brand of superglue is supposed to be non-yellowing and is designed for lapidary use. Maybe an experiment with the epoxy to see how well a slab does over time with exposure to sunlight?

    what is the thickness? you said 4 turns of the handle would that be a 1/4 in. or a 3/8th. in.? them are the two thickness i use for cabs. THEO sure made that" KATYDID" insect BEAUTIFUL! and it fits you to a T!! great video

      I have found that 1/4" is actually 5 turns, 3/8 is 6. And yes, he did a great job!
