- In this fantastic rockhounding adventure, Kate finds a gorgeous blue Montana moss agate, along with many other big agates and huge pieces of agatized wood. She and Kava are joined by TH-cam's Theo Kellison and his wife, Alexis - and they all found more than they could carry! Come uncover the treasure Montana's Yellowstone River has to offer.

Even just gong for a walk down the st, I always end up home loaded with rocks. Glad I’m not the only one

What I really need is a backpack with a waist belt. :) I need to figure something out, for sure. Yesterday I had more than 50 pounds in my shoulder pack - that can't be good.
what would it take to get you a bigger back pack or do we need to get a drone to pick things up for you
:D I don't think a drone would help! They can't even begin to lift that much. I HAVE considered a winch to lift it up the hills - ha! I also have been looking for a decent pack with a waist belt, one that would allow me to carry more by resting the weight on my hips - but so far, I haven't found one that is acceptable.

Wow, that was one of the best sites YET! When I get moved up there next season, you guys are going to have to bring me back there. I'll buy the food and the gas!
:) The river changes constantly. Your best bet is to pair Google earth with BLM maps to find river access that hasn't been hit hard.

It was very, very heavy - but the main problem was that it was VERY hot. It was a good day, though - worth it!

Not so much - the area around here is the Fort Union formation, so there might be plant fossils, but nothing super exciting. :) I'm glad you enjoy the videos...

I think you need a dingy that you can fill, then you and it can walk up or down the River to a spot where it’s not far from the road.

Not picking anything heavy today, turn around and it’s over, I rarely make it to my destination who knows I’m probably picking up nothing special but every rock I have , I have picked it and loved it, I love my newfound hobby but I’m not good at it much love ❤️ and thank you 🙏🏼

I think whenever I get to come up to Montana and rockhound the Yellowstone...I'm going to have to bring a dump truck. I always see other NON-agate/jasper/petwood pieces in your videos and think..."oh dear...I would be taking that one..and that one...and that one...." LOL!

Absolutely - never rising, as I'm not up that early, but late afternoon rock hunting is THE BEST.

I think we all know you just can't pass up a good piece of petrified wood and agate well jasper. I guess on a great great day you will have to make two trips to get all your finds back to the car, I have had to do that. Keep up the great videos I really enjoy watching them.

There are so many, MANY kinds of stones on the Yellowstone, I couldn't begin to tell you what they are. Basalt, travertine, porphyry, sandstone... just so many.

The blue moss agates generally are far less blue once they're cut - something to do with the refraction of the light. I'll see what I can do, though! :D

Oooooh, all the agatey goodness you found today!! Some of those rocks are spectacular! It might be time to start weight training Kava. It’s about time she started earning her keep instead of just gadding about chasing birds and having swims!! lol! Keep looking for that backpack. I was in the Canadian military and we had to wear a 50lb rucksack for 10 miles; it had a waist belt that made a huge difference in carrying all that weight.

Hello! I did a quick internet search, and I don't believe there are agates in WV. Lots of minerals, though! :)
What's the difference between good rocks and "just a pretty rock"? Where I live there are no good rocks or "just pretty rocks" either.
I would say the difference lies in the eye of the beholder. I collect lots of rocks that really aren't worth anything, but they are super pretty. :)
You could carry more if you put carry-sacks on your dogs.
I definitely could load her up a little bit, but her frame is pretty delicate - she probably couldn't carry much. It might tire her out, though! :)
Some people call it junk, but I call it Treasure...... everyone else calls them rocks.
