Great video Kate. I found my first silt covered agate last week! yes! Another thing you should mention to beginners is the conchoidal fractures that only agates jasper and chert get. I look for the seashell shaped or half moon shaped small and big fractures in the rock, that is the ultimate way to narrow it down if its in the microcrystaline quartz family.

    • @KatyDidRocks

Will agate, Jasper, coral or peternulus ring when you tap it with a hammer stone , billet or copper- bopper?
It will sound like a 6 pack of beer clanking and ringing around.
That's how I find obcidian or oven opal nodules, tap with an antler hammer.... Ting, ting, ting ( obcidian).... clunk , clunk, clunk, ( any other rock)
There is a very interesting native American story about pioneers watching a couple of paiute warriors tapping on random stones with antler. They didn't understand what they were watching.
Give it a try, see if they ring and let me know!
So far you have the best channel on finding these kinds of wild glass!
Thanks, ryley kreger AKA the feathered frontiersman....

:D Thank you. The cube - and many of the slabs - have not been cut yet, but I did include those that have been. The cube is on its way! We didn't find anything too spectacular during this hunt, but my hunt yesterday yielded several HUGE agates. Thanks for watching!

    • @KatyDidRocks

Oh, it really is! We happen to have had an unseasonably warm winter, so all of us have hit the river as much as we can. Today, however, it's snowing and 10 degrees - so agate hunting is not an option. :)
