    One thing to note about hydraulic dump beds: make sure the load is actually coming out the back as the bed is raised. The cylinders aren't meant to hold the whole load up. If the load is frozen and doesn't come out, the seals on the cylinder might let go causing the bed to drop. A guy was killed when a large dump bed had a frozen load of dirt in it. Seal blew, bed fell. The large bounce it took when it hit the frame caused the guy to get launched out of his seat into the roof of the cab, killing him.

    I know that mechanical contrivances are inanimate objects, but I firmly believe that some of them just want to live. That old M-6 is one that fits that category. Not only did the old flathead cough to life, but the lights worked (including some of the box clearance lights, really?), and it idled like it was new off the lot. That old Merc has a great spirit, and I'm glad you resurrected it. Happy Halloween and long live those old iron souls that want to live!

    Every episode should be full-on Halloween themed from now on! Great to see that unkillable flatty roar back to life. I had a '52 Customline that I used to mess with as a teen, it was basically an engine and four tires, body rotted to hell, pull the emergency brake to keep from crashing into dad's station wagon...still amazed at how well it ran after sitting for years.

    Old Merc didn't take much to get back running. And running well. My 52 had several stuck valves when I brought it back to life. I was able to loosen them up through the spark plug holes with penetrating fluid and careful use of a hammer and punch. Didn't have to remove the heads or manifold. Looks like your truck is ready for next year's harvest.

    Dear Strong's Garage guys
    👍👌👏 Great video and great work again. The skeleton driven coffin at the end made me grin from ear to ear! 😁 It's a really nice Halloween toy. 2) Congrats for getting the old girl purring again. I'm really flabbergasted that the engine sounds so healthy. No knocks, no nothing. Nearly everything else seems to work fine too. Despite the dented roof, this grain truck was definitely a good purchase. Congrats again.
    3) Please kindly allow me to ask some questions: Did I spot another red truck with black fenders in the background? It looks very similar. Is it a parts truck or simply a second one? Will the grain truck be kind of patina restored in the future (frame derusted and painted, paint on the cabin cleaned and buffed back to life etc p.p.)? I would love to see that the old girl gets some good maintenance respectively TLC. After all these years holding up a barn (acting almost like Atlas, the Titan), she definitely deserves it.
    Anyway: I'm eagerly looking forward to watch your next video.
    Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
    Best regards luck and health to all of you.

    Great video , love those flatheads. My love affair with those flathead V8s started when I drove my buddies, dads restored 1950 Ford F1 back in 1968. Talk about a sweet running truck. When it was idling it was so smooth that you could sit a glass of water on the hood and never see a ripple in the water.

    I'm a Chevy guy but that's a good looking truck and its always a pleasure seeing them brought back. I recently got a 66 c10 in really good shape. I've lowered it modestly, upgraded the brakes and I briefly considered building a modern 327 for it but it's kind of cool the 250 6cyl runs really well and now when *EVERYONE* is doing the bellybutton LS swap I feel like being different keeping the 6

    I remember freeing up valves like that over 50 years ago towing car down the road with a tractor sitting on engine with a bar and hammer tapping down stuck valves . Got them freed up and about 1 am towed down driveway back firing and roaring with no muffler . My friends parents where not impressed .

    That was enjoyable - I hadn't seen stuck valves freed up like that before - I have a 41 Ford 4dr in my back yard that ran when parked 40 yrs ago that I just use for yard art - if you were closer I'd bring it to your garage for a "will it run"

  • @79tazman
    @79tazman ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I like using the 12 volt method when they have some stuck valves. The 12 volts is to get the engine spinning fast enough to get it fired up and usually the heat of the engine running loosens the valves and they slowly begin to run on all 8 again. I have got lucky a few times with that method but you don't want too many stuck valves or it won't run unless you tear the intake or head off
