MTB came and played at our st pattys frat fest in columbia SC one year. They knew they would be underappreciated amongst all the country and 90s washed up wonders but still rocked that shit. These guys love what they do and i will always see them when i can. I like this new stuff. Its just toned down but still got soul

This performance is a lil rough and I think that's just cuz the songs are so new at that point.. not cuz "they're bored." "Last Kiss" rips so good live, man.
i like these live versions better than all the album versions . I agree they are not the same band from Planet Of Ice but i think Infinity Overhead was a very good rocking album .I will take this band over most of the garbage passing it self off as music these days!

So why did you even listen? Anyway, Minus the Bear is kind of a band that has some amazingly chaotic music that melds the indie rock with the slight hint of electronics. It's actually something that started some time ago and they have forged on with that sound before anyone else was really doing it. I don't think it is their intention to make pop music, but rather indie rock. If they are trying to make pop, then yeah, you're right, they maybe failed a bit. As for the band, they sound better than they ever have. I saw them years ago at a block party on Capital Hill and was very unimpressed. But this was a step up. If you ever needed to know why Minus the Bear sticks around, you just need to give their albums a chance. Try their acoustic albums too, it jumps from the electronic sounds into a more mellow setting that actually works with the vocals a bit better. All in all, the band is talented at making the indie music that they make. If you don't like it, that's okay, but it doesn't make them a bad or untalented band.

ramon gonçalves this is as serious as the scene from #billymadison about the lost dog, i find this refreshing and in-line with previous works - if post-rock is melodic then yes to that but i think they only got math-rock for the name, unless the layering because it nicely puzzle pieces together, sort of making it a genre standalone

Their material up to Omni was consistently unique and refreshing, something most bands are unable to achieve just going into a sophomore album. Tate was asked to dumb down his patterns after Planet of Ice and ever since then the music has sounded completely uninspired. They broke a mold for 10 years and then either got lazy or tried appealing to mainstream ears.

Never understood why they put up with him as a singer. This band could have been great with an even somewhat decent singer. His voice has no texture, it's just boring, and flat.
What I've always liked about their past music is that you can drown out the singing if you wanted to easily because he uses his voice like a part of the instruments where it doesn't take center stage rather it just adds another layer to the whole. I've noticed though that as they simplified the complexity of their instruments in the later releases and Jake's singing took more of the spotlight their music started sounding extremely generic.

What I've always liked about their past music is that you can drown out the singing if you wanted to easily because he uses his voice like a part of the instruments where it doesn't take center stage rather it just adds another layer to the whole. I've noticed though that as they simplified the complexity of their instruments in the later releases and Jake's singing took more of the spotlight their music started sounding extremely generic.
