I am not going to be the first one to ask of this, but please, oh god, please release the music track that always runs in the beginning of these videos with the heavy bass pulse! There is something about it that really gets me focused on whatever I do. Oh well, 'nuff of that. This fiction is going to rip it completely! I'm loving it so far! :-)

Nice job Michael (you did look nervous though ;))! It's a shame that so many original Elite races are not sentient, but I guess that non-spacefaring but sentient could create too many complications down the line. Looking forward to the next diary.
Im gonna be part of the federation for sure. The Imperials also sound kinda fun. Though I will probably do most of my smuggling in alliance space because of the various laws and they will probably re-act slower then Federation and Imperials.
Although it is a little worrying. Assuming in open play or a targeted large scale play, if you get a large enough group, you could theoretically destabilise entire systems and trade routes. Exciting.
Large-scale procedurally generated events. Back when I used to play EVE, the defining feature was that it was pretty much all the players. There were missions and small-scale NPC's to fight off in secure space, but that wasn't really *the game*. From what they're describing with Elite, it looks like there's going to be a much larger PvE component, and this should go some way towards giving the universe a consistent feel in a way that EVE couldn't.
I've faith they'll pull it off, this post was 2 months ago when I hadn't really known what was going on. A lot's changed. :) But yes, you're right. Fascinating though, I got so many negative votes for questioning and speaking about the obvious. lol Touchy crowd this Elite follow lot. hehe :p
It would be very interesting if the game has the possibility to enter into planets and explore your natural recusrso with land vehicles coming out of the spaceship and the millions of planets being generated on its surface fractals That would be an absolute success for several reasons!
Very possible though this notion in ED was roughly the case back in Elite and Frontier Elite 2 - Butlerian Jihad wasn't fully written and published until 2002. Probable that DB has had some influences from the Dune Universe but not exclusively Butlerian Jihad (FWIW: Massive Dune series fan here, and have all the originals and pre-quals and sequals books by Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson too).

When he refers to AI, he means that in the Science Fiction universe of Elite, the concept of Artificial Intelligences has been banned, because they are too dangerous and threaten mankind (as the dominent sentient lifeform in the known galaxy). I assume Artifical intelligences would cover robots and super computers with free (and probably very advanced) thought. Hope that helps!

you can make people think key free while they are enslaved by DEBT. How to force everyone to be in debt (enslaved)? Turn your money (gold, anything of worth) into debt. (fiat currencies of today). The results are - demininshing middle class, increasing differences betwen rich and poor which ultimately leads to inefficient economy with only few percent living at good level rest 90-few percent are unimaginably poor. That is earth's future (and anihilation) if we dont drop FIAT currency.
My concern here is, how this will pan out? I mean this sounds very much like the hopes the CCP had Eve Online story wise. A few years down the line it was shot to pot & the CCP put it on the back burner. U had a majority player base saying "Screw the RP story", I play the game however I want I'm not interested in RP story. It ended up with a universe of people talking about "chars" & "alts" looking to meta-game the thing to death. How will Elite hold its player base to the story line is the Q?
Nope, importing and selling non-imperial slaves is illegal in the Empire, as are slave cargo containers (imperial slaves are transported in passenger cabins). Google "Elite DDF slavery" or "Elite Two snakes coming together" for more details.
Wrong. AI refers to man made beings with artificial intelligence. Think of Commander Data on Star Trek. StRoRo, you are referring to the different factions...which has nothing at all to do with what TheJakub345 was asking.
It's upsetting that Frontier Developments are getting a bit silly with their GalNet posts and in game stuff. Elite and Frontier: Elite II were gritty space opera immersion driven beasts, so Blizzard-esque fart jokes and pop culture references are very unwelcome IMHO.
ok. we also have legal slavery - you are born with few trilion of debt at least and then have to work hard to pay the interest! Because, of course, we are not going to pay it back. Lets just make 1 fiat currency so we cannot inflate ourselves out and we have permanent legal financial slavery. It is a shame you dont consider financial system an important thing of the civilization. its one of the most if not most important
I don't think that's true, there have been and still are human societies which live peacefully, what if such races exist? They would coexist and either take a back foot on an inhabited world or occupy uninhabited suitable worlds.

Back when I used to play EVE, the defining feature was that it was pretty much all the players. There were missions and small-scale NPC's to fight off in secure space, but that wasn't really *the game*.
From what they're describing with Elite, it looks like there's going to be a much larger PvE component, and this should go some way towards giving the universe a consistent feel in a way that EVE couldn't.

That would be an absolute success for several reasons!
Not at release, but with the upcoming expansion pack. They want to make planetary landings and excursions really great and not rush it.

MMO's do limit alot of things, small scale co-op is a good choice.
