  • Belgian-born Clément Loret (1833 - 1909) is an organist and composer of the nineteenth century. Despite being less famous than many of his French contemporaries, Loret’s influence can be heard in the music of Gabriel Fauré and Eugène Gigout, who were both pupils of Loret at the Niedermeyer School in Paris.
Taken from a collection of twelve pieces for organ, this delightful Prière is full of charm. Written in ternary form, the central section features a beautiful melody for the oboe stop framed by two identical sections played on the “fonds doux”.
The 1924 Steinmeyer organ in the church of St Maria in Landau (sampled for Hauptwerk by ‪@PiotrGrabowski_Organs‬) was meticulously restored to its romantic state between 2010 and 2012. The organ is rich in foundation stops and colour with a powerful tutti, set in a glorious acoustic. The demo version fearures a small selection of stops, most of which can be heard here. The sumptuous sound seemed perfect for this piece.

Wonderful music that is very moving. Unfortunately, I have never heard of the composer before. All the better to follow his music. Your interpretation is wonderful, many greetings from Roland.

Thank you very much, Roland. I don’t play much Loret but his music is definitely worthy of being better known.

I love Loret, the reasons why is shown in this piece, melodically very strong. Well played, sounds great on this new Steinmeyer set!

I didn’t know this composer but thank you for this lovely rendition. How do you find the sample set?

I only have the demo version at the moment but I am tempted to buy it. It’s certainly very spacious.

@@MarcusReeves How does it compare to Dudelange? I am torn between those two

I don’t know Dudelange that well but I think there are similarities. Dudelange definitely has more of a French accent though. I guess Landau sits somewhere between Görlitz and Dudelange?

@@MarcusReeves Görlitz is more neobaroque with some romantic additions. I would place this Steinmeyer more between Dudelange (with its French romantic influences) and a Sauer/Walcker model (with its German romantic influences). Which makes it quite versatile.

You’re not wrong but most Sauer-Walcker organs available for Hauptwerk are not in such resonant spaces, Annaberg perhaps one of the exceptions. Perhaps a comparison to that would have been better. The romantic touches at Görlitz (and the non-romantic ones too) such as the Fifaro and Onda Maris are beautiful nonetheless.
