Welcome to my TH-cam channel, the aim of which is to produce high quality organ videos.
As Director of Music at a leading Catholic co-educational prep school in the UK a significant part of my job is to play the organ for services in our beautiful Georgian chapel, including at Mass every Sunday. Prior to teaching, I was a first-study organist at Southampton University where I was fortunate to study with Stephen Farr and David Owen Norris before becoming a Choral Scholar for a year at Truro Cathedral.

Healey Willan – Adore te, devote // Salisbury Cathedral
*Prelude ‘Thee we adore, O blessed Saviour’*
_Adoro te, devote_ is one of the five beautiful hymns by St Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274). The Gregorian chant for this hymn formed the basis for this piece by Healey Willan dating drom 1954.
Although born in England, James Healey Willan spent most of his professional life in Canada, most famously as precentor of the Church of St Mary Magdalene in Toronto. His organ music, especially his choral preludes, is very approachable with a distinct English (Stanford-inspired) style.
The 1877 ‘Father’ Willis organ of Salisbury Cathedral, sampled by Milan Digital Audio, would have been very familiar in sound to the English instruments Willan played before emigrating and is therefore ideally suited to his organ music.

@@MarcusReeves How does it compare to Dudelange? I am torn between those two
I don’t know Dudelange that well but I think there are similarities. Dudelange definitely has more of a French accent though. I guess Landau sits somewhere between Görlitz and Dudelange?
@@MarcusReeves Görlitz is more neobaroque with some romantic additions. I would place this Steinmeyer more between Dudelange (with its French romantic influences) and a Sauer/Walcker model (with its German romantic influences). Which makes it quite versatile.
You’re not wrong but most Sauer-Walcker organs available for Hauptwerk are not in such resonant spaces, Annaberg perhaps one of the exceptions. Perhaps a comparison to that would have been better. The romantic touches at Görlitz (and the non-romantic ones too) such as the Fifaro and Onda Maris are beautiful nonetheless.
Really beautiful organ playing. My mother learnt to play this piece of music on the piano in 1940 at Sherborne Girls school! She has now passed away but it will be played again at her memorial service in Chagford this summer.

A nice and triumphant piece, compliments for playing it on this relatively dry set (compared to the big English models). It gives a lot of insight and transparency in the recording of this piece. Well done, Marcus.

Really great to hear more played on IMHO fabulous C-C instrument, a real gem (OK- I have to admit I have just acquired it). What do you begin with on the Recit- it sounds quiet, is it the H-B or the Trompette with the box shut?

If you had a very heavy cold when making this recording, Marcus, it does not have a detrimental effect at all on the wonderful artistry in this interpretation and performance of Mendelssohn's gorgeous A major Organ Sonata. The music fits the Armley Schulze perfectly and listening to you play is always a real pleasure. Hopefully, you are now fully recovered and back to good health . . . and working on your next upload. Excellent performance Marcus. It's always a challenge to record pieces, especially as they get longer and more complex. I'd much rather a real performance than a "CD perfect" one. In saying that, there is absolutely nothing wrong with your playing. I hope you get better real soon and I look forward to your next upload.

Lovely, Marcus. This is a wonderful piece that I got to perform as the recessional to my best friend's wedding in Switzerland on a wonderful 1888 Walcker instrument.
