Their is NOTHING like hearing a pipe organ folks. It was my mother and i favorite instrument. We sung in a lot of choir's together. And in many different cathedrals. And just listening to a pipe organ FULLY open and breathing sends goosebumps up and down your arms. Especially, if the reverb is good on top of that. It is an impressive instrument that takes A LOT of practice to master. It's certainly not like playing the piano that's for sure.

I stumbled into Carcassone one evening, no plan, just arrived at the doorstep of a very nice 5 star restaurant where the maitre,d almost laughed when I asked if I could get a table, then a voice from across the room said he can sit with me. My invite came from the Organ Master of the English Church in Berne, a nice fellow whose first or second question was, "are you here for the recital?". To which I said "no". He next said, "so you have just happen to arrive at one of the finer restaurants in the region in time to get to the recital across the street?" He explained the event about to transpire. The inaugural concert of the 17h century organ in the Norman Cathedral after it's complete refurbishment. He left early as he was part of the official invitees. I finished and walked across the street, merely walked in and chose a seat and enjoyed my first live organ concert. It was superb. The summer of 1985.

The composer: Antonio Soler was educated at the choir school of Montserrat and at an early age was made chapelmaster at Lérida Cathedral. In 1752 he joined the Order of St. Jerome (Hieronymites) and became organist at the Escorial Monastery. As one of the most notable keyboard performers of his time, he taught both organ and harpsichord to members of the royal family. He was himself a student of Domenico Scarlatti, whose influence may be perceived in the lively keyboard technique, the form, and the frequently unexpected harmonic progressions of Soler’s numerous harpsichord sonatas and also in some of his organ works. He wrote much church music, in which he often indulged a taste for intricate canons; incidental music for plays by Calderón and others; six quintets for organ and strings; and six concerti for two organs. He also wrote a work on musical theory, Llave de la Modulación (1762), which was the subject of significant controversy among his contemporaries. His experiments with microtones led him to invent, for the purpose, a keyboard instrument called the afinador.
I listened to this organ through my headphones. The sound of organ music was incredible, to hear the same organ live in the church, you would hear the music not just in your ears but you we would probably feel the music reverberating in your bones.
Wow! This is truly one of the most regal songs I've ever heard. I could see Christ Himself descending from the clouds with a great host of angels. Bravo !
I'm coming to this video after watching performances on mammoth organs with four keyboards and hundreds of stops and was expecting the same. It's incredible, the power behind such a relatively diminutive instrument.
What a mighty overwhelming sound. E. Power-Biggs' solo arrangement of this fanfare from Soler's Sixth Double Organ Concerto is no doubt responsible for making it so well known and loved. It's in the 'Biggs Book of Organ Music.'.
Yes it is and I have my second copy of that book (the first one got all worn out from use!) I play that piece more times than I can count. Biggs also recorded it twice that I know of - on the Columbia LP Historic Organs of Spain on the organ of Toledo Cathedral and on another Columbia LP called Soler Six Concertos for Two Organs in which the fanfare is written in a somewhat different form as the last movement of the Sixth Concerto. On this recording Biggs plays the famous Flentrop organ at the Busch-Reisinger Museum in Cambridge MA and the second organist is Daniel Pinkham who plays a one manual positiv organ also by Flentrop. Both albums can be found online - just look for the best condition and best price.

My first partner was an organist and while we were together our lives included a whole lot of traveling to every organ he could find a way into....it was a lot!! Nice & mostly majestic music composition. Fine, good pipe organ playing 😄💛
So absolutely joyous, dynamic and inspirational to boot! There is nothing in the world like this! I play trumpet and playing this is the ultimate high!

What beautiful piece and what a fantastic sounding organ. I think I’ve replayed this piece 30 times already today.
This is just a fantastic instrument and room! I know you will be back here.
Awesome... it was a moment of great uplilfting in my own spiritual journey- thank you.
Ganz toll und wunderschön gespielt. Danke Herr Fey. 👍👌👏
A stunning piece of music ....... awesome!
WOW a complete "Trumperteria" with the regals and all!! A definitive Spanish organ! One of the things that amazes me is the distance of some of the pipes from the console, and still it is tracker action.
Absolutely loved it. Such a magnificent instrument and played with such intensity and feeling. Thank you.
Thank you for introducing me to Antonio Soler and the fabulous organ at Santanyi.😊
Schön wie Du deine Möglichkeiten nutzt und die Orgellandschaft bereits.Ein wunderschönes dynamisches Werk
Wow Paul, you are magnificent!! Those fingers were made for the organ!! Greetings from Phoenix, Arizona USA!!
I first heard this organ on a recording by E Power Biggs on a Columbia recording. Amazing to hear it again here! Bravo!
