    This is wonderful. Thank you for sharing this info. Best part: “I don’t want to annoy my neighbors… too much.” Reminds me of the guy who said, “My neighbors enjoy it so much when I play Slayer that they throw bricks through my window so they can hear it better.”

    On my digital home organ setup, I switched from a Windows PC to an M1 MacBook Air with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD, and though it is much cheaper than my old PC setup, it works just as well if not better. I don't have access to some of the professional tools, but it does what I need it to better than my PC. I guess it just goes to show that you don't need to spend a ton of money on your setup, because for a PC like that, you factor in the cost of all the RAM, the processor, the motherboard, the case, the GPU if needed, the SSD, cables, etc. but on a MacBook Air, you just buy a laptop. Otherwise, very informative video.

    Thanks for sharing. I’ve heard you saying “extensive research” many times and I do understood the toil involved, VPO is an expensive hobby, haha.

    Thanks to modern technology, it's difficult to fit a 4 or 5 manual pipe organ into a normal house or apartment but now we can buy hauptwerk, Allen, Rodgers, viscount etc and fit it nicely into our homes, enjoying the great sounds of an actual pipe organ, i own a 5 manual allen witch is identical to the first congregation church of Los Angeles, each and every stop and thump and foot pistons works identical to the actual pipe organ of that church

    I agree with nearly everything that you said - but suggest that for very large organ sets that a more capable workstation is a good idea - in a parallel setup here (4M+P) 128G RAM MOTU and Tascam Audio... I went down the HP path - Dual Hex and Oct Xeons HP Z800 then Z820 and in the most recent version Z4 with NVME M2 drive. My system(s) get moved to other venues quite often so minimum cabling is an issue as is sufficient flexibility to feed major venue audio systems - balanced audio via DI boxes etc. Your comments on expression pedal position should be noted by all designers - try out some real organs and then take some measurements and adopt those that fit you. Bench height adjustment becomes essential when the instrument is going to be played by others - especially in concert....

    Very nice. Except for those most awkward monitors though. Waiting to fall.
    Just use two swingarms.

    Building a digital organ doesn't have to be expensive, it can be ultra cheap. If you use Linux and grandorgue, you can get away with it on 20 year old hardware paired with a $120 midi keyboard which is even cheaper used and free sample sets. Once you have it going, you can upgrade and add to it whenever you have some extra money.
    Windows is another story since Windows is filled with crippleware to limit what hardware you can use to force planned obsolescence while Linux can make a core 2 duo daily drivable in 2024 which is an ideal minimum to start with if you want to use an extra computer sitting around.
    Mine is running fine on a 1.4Ghz pentium m with 2gb of ddr2 ram and a really slow 30gb 1.5 inch hard drive paired with a single $120 midi keyboard.

    Very informative but being across the Tasman we don’t have a local virtual organ builder as you do. Our lower $ makes it more expensive again. I came across a Viscount Prestige 80 in mint condition for a very good price and being a personal sale did not have to pay tax + the seller met local moving costs.
    It is a digital organ but has full midi capacity meaning that I can with a suitable PC load up virtual organ sample sets and assign the current stop tabs pistons instead of using a touch screen monitor. Still I am curious if it was still cheaper to import with the high costs of international shipping tax etc than to use the local provider. We don’t have a local virtual organ builder and the Australian builder doesn’t serve NZ.

      Yes, it was cheaper to build and import from Poland than build in Australia.

      @@chrisorganmusic2862 I think your advice was invaluable as some may not consider a Polish brand when you have so many good European English and US brands. My next project will be to connect a virtual pipe organ to my instrument via the midi ports. Hope you get many enjoyable and valuable hours with your organ and look forward to hearing it one day on you tube.

    Also in Aus - are you able to give an idea of total cost (doesn't have to be exact e.g. less than $100K, less than $50K. less than $20K....) - including delivery and taxes etc?
    I assume the online 'builder' is in USD?

    • @chrisorganmusic2862
      @chrisorganmusic2862  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It cost approx AUD$17k for construction, delivery and taxes. Plus accessories. I paid mostly in EUR.

    Nice video. I was a bit alarmed by the statement that your legs are longer than ideal, making operating the swell pedals a bit awkward. You really want a console to be comfortable (otherwise you'll be less included to sit down and play) and I'd have thought that it should be if correctly manufactured to accepted dimensions. I wonder if a height adjustable bench would help to address the situation?

    • @chrisorganmusic2862
      @chrisorganmusic2862  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It was manufactured to ago specs, but as this was the first time buying a console, and I hadn't had issues with real installations, I didn't check how well it suited me. Anyway, the pedals are part of the case, so it would awkward to 'lower' the whole base by 2 inches now.

      @@chrisorganmusic2862 the reason for my comment is that I had real trouble with a continental console which had been fitted with a Viscount 30-note radiating/concave midi pedal pedalboard. Somehow the geometry was all wrong and, as a result, it was most uncomfortable to play. After a hiatus of nearly five years I am now looking to purchase a new instrument.
