    Had the same problem but only just found your video. Thank you.
    Some additional information:
    - There is a second idle channel that is just as prone to clog up behind the small cap to the left of the bigger Idle nozzle. Had to clean that one too.
    - Some reproductions have cheaply made Idle nozzles with only 1 hole in the back instead of 2. If this hole ends up horizontally when fully screwed in, no fuel can pass through properly (happened to me too). Use the original Solex Nozzles or proper reproductions.
    - Make sure all unused holes and plugs are covered properly.

      @@vitalysauto1156 so should I drain the old gas and replace it with new gas before moving to something more difficult like cleaning/rebuilding the carb?

    I have rail buggy and it wants to cut out when the rpm’s are high. It also hardly produces as much power as it use to. Would the carb being dirty contribute to this?

      Don't feel bad. My first line of thinking was to check the fuel filter inside the fuel pump. I dropped the screw plug behind the crankshaft pulley! Gas is pissing all over the floor, I had nothing with which to "stanch the bleeding". Fortunately, I remembered have an extra motor, I just borrowed the one from it. Fished out the plug, reinstalled it, found this video, I was done in five minutes, it runs like a clock again!

    The Solex carburetor is the most problematic one I have known in the 53 years I have worked on cars. It is terrible for idle problems compared to ANY others. Even brand new ones are bad right out of the box no matter who makes them. Somebody must know what modification to the carb. will get a slightly richer mixture to offset being lean the instant a little dirt shows up. Setting the mixture screws a half turn richer on an American carb. from fastest idle will give a little fudge factor against poor idle problems. Otherwise you half to adjust any carb. more often. But these lousy Solex style carbs. forget it. Maybe a slightly bigger idle pilot jet? If I had extra jets I would try that but me, I'm fed up trying to keep VW owners happy. Cleaning VW carbs. is not the only answer on these bad idle prone carbs. I wonder if anyone knows where a set of jets (a kit) can be bought otherwise I'm done with this junk.

    • @bottmar1
      @bottmar1 ปีที่แล้ว

      What about all the rest of them? I wish you had an answer to this extremely common problem because all of the ones I have ever seen, even Melroe Spracoupes, run into this problem. Where I don't but rarely ever see bad idle characteristics is in any of the 100 other cars I have owned and over many hundreds of customer cars I have worked on. Solex carbs. and replicas (China) must be on the lean side, on the idle circuit, or this problem would not occur so often.
