- When a law-abiding engineer's (Robin Williams) life takes a dark turn, he rebels against authority and encourages others to do the same. This leads to a tense situation where he kidnaps Benson, forcing Stabler into an impossible choice: torture her or watch her die...
From Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 9, Episode 17 'Authority': When restaurant manager Dwight Lomax (guest star Scott Adsit, "30 Rock") is caught molesting a female employee, he claims that he was following orders from a "Detective Milgram" over the phone. As detectives Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) delve into the case, they discover "Detective Milgram" was a hoax by engineer Merritt Rook (guest star Robin Williams).
Law & Order (1990 -): Follows a crime (usually a murder), usually adapted from current headlines, from two separate vantage points, the police investigation and the prosecution in court.

In those 12 minutes, Robin was able to convey, anger, sorrow, fear, illicit compassion and sadness. He was just amazing.
One of the most remarkable actors of our time. So sad he took his own life as the world has genuinely missed him.
Illicit compassion is my favorite compassion
I'm not so sure he was acting. He had depression later in his career. And this is one of the few roles he's taken where, not only was he not being humourous (intentionally or not), but no one ever laughed even by accident.
Robin Williams was the finest actor in the movies. Such a funny, versatile actor. Man, I miss him!
Robin WIlliams was an amazing performer in SO many ways. The world lost a great man with his passing.
Robin can play any kind of character and does GREAT!!! GOAT!!!
I miss u Robin. RIP
Williams did an outstanding job in this episode.
God I loved that man. RIP KING!
I miss you Robin… so-much. ✌️☹️
Robin Williams is the best.
0:58 eye for an eye.
And the world goes blind
so after bombs planted everywhere, they did't frisk him at the end?
This just shows how great of an actor Robin Williams was. Wish we could have helped him like he helped us
Too bad he was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia , he wanted to end thing on his terms
When Robin Williams does a serious role, he's super scary, I think because we all know him as the complete opposite (laughter, joy, spontaneous).
Check out him in 'One Hour Photo'
@@xFalgharx exactly!
After a suicide attempt many years ago while I was in the hospital I must have watched every interview and comedy performence I could find on TH-cam. I truly believe Robin Williams saved my life and I will forever be grateful and thankful.
I miss robin williams . I grew up watching him. Rip to the legend . He will always live on in his movies .i felt bad for him in the epispde .
I met Robin Williams and I was unintentionally less friendly. I didn’t want him to think I was interested in his celebrity. I regret my actions. Today I wouldn’t let celebrity impede my friendliness. Rest in peace, you funny gentleman.
@@usainengland your heart was in the right place. Live and learn :-)
I absolutely love that this episode showcased robins ability to manipulate his voice. He was such an amazing actor.
He was nominated for an Emmy for this performance.
@@milehightim1192Always believed his character survived and is living in another country 🙏 love Merrit Rook
It's a great acting. while watching the video I forgot it was Robin Williams. all I saw was a madman, a grieving husband, a tactical genius and an ordinary man from the street
Such a cop response.
"Just because he killed your wife, doesn't mean you should get revenge!"
Omg! I will say it again, Robin Williams is the most underrated dramatic actor of our time!
RIP! People will never see the likes of him again.
Few people have been comedy greats and top tier actors capable of playing intense scenes. Robin was a very special performer RIP Robin Williams.
Robin Williams is (not was) often remembered for comedy; but quite an amazing actor capable of an incredibly wide range of characters and emotions.
Robin Williams plays Law & Order's 2 best villain (Merrit Rook) perfectly in Season 9 Episode 17 (Authority) the best guest actor on SVU, William appeared 6 years before his RIP on SVU.
Main Cast:
Christopher Meloni
Mariska Hargitay
Richard Belzer
Ice-T
Diane Neal
Adam Beach
Tamara Tunie
BD Wong
Dann Florek
So did Robin Williams' character drown in the river?
Six years before his rip?? What did he rip?? His jeans?? A bag?? I think you mean six years before his death
@@brandrider1989 Its a bot generating the comment
Williams also gave a very memorable guest performance on 'Homicide: Life On The Street' in the 90s.
Hint: He went into the bushes...he never came out. If he planned getting caught, blowing the building...he also had the escape planned. I think they ran right by him...and he just walked away. Also, they went right by all kinds of stuff he could have hid in or under.
Robin was really great with drama. RIP, you will be missedand loved forever.
I definitely agree but also you have a typo in missedand instead of missed and just thought I should point that out but yeah RIP legend robin.
Robin was the epitome of what Bo Burnam mentioned.
"Come and watch the skinny kid and laugh as he attempts to give him what he cannot give himself"
The man maybe gone but not forgotten
Pretty dumb not to look under the white tarps.
He showed he can act different characters sooo well! Such a talented actor….pity he was suffering so much personally.
Robin Williams used to be a mime in his younger years btw.
I didn't know mrs doubtfire was so mean lol
Wow! Robin was such a phenomenal actor in addition to his comedy. Miss him so much
11:45 "He went into that [smooth, glass-surfaced, undisturbed, rippleless water cuffed... he's dead." _[And no use looking for his body right now... he probably swam 100s of yards offshore in the last 10 seconds -- while cuffed and fully-clothed -- before drowning. It'd be impossible to find him... let's just leave!]_
I suspect there's currents too

I'm not sure you understood my point.
I always assumed that they wanted the option to have him come back in a reprise role. But honestly, it was so obvious that they never followed through, because no one would've been surprised.
@@soren3569 I have no issue with the producers wanting to reprise his role. It's their characters' total lack of professionalism at the end of the scene that I take exception to.
The lack of any water disturbance makes me think he hung a left or a right ànd took off in an opposite direction. Setup for a return episode. The ending kinda sucked.
The man was a g*d*mn artist!
When you see Chris Melonis performance in this and then in Happy!, you can see this guy has range, mores the pity we don’t see him in other stuff.
I guess those two don't watch enough police shows. They should have known he was up to something when he asked to tie his shoe. My first thought was, "what is he up to?" Then, boom!
Mork was a long way from Ork.
My favorite episode!
If you like this watch one hour photo.
Yes. One Hour Photo (2002). Much under-rated film.
Great movie
@@tonysouth1313 or watch The Angriest Man in Brooklyn.... wow
Insomnia too
This is like the fisher king
Why would he go into the water when he could have blown himself up, he had a plan to get away
Bruh how did he not feel the detonator during the pat down
It was concealed in his hand.
@@leannecanty8821how did Merrit know stabler wouldn't shoot him because he has anger issues
@@preciousotoakhia9789 It was in the script.
Stabler left his alone when checking on his partner. He had the opportunity to get the detonator then.
Two problems with his "no sheep" message: 1st) Everyone involved with the protests were still sheep. They just had him for a new shepherd. 2nd) His problem was never being a sheep to the system, it was being a coward. The surgery the doctor offered his wife had a high probability of killing her. He knew the risks, but let the doctor do it anyway. What he should have done was ask for a second opinion -something *millions* of people do *every* day.
So ridiculous. This show always has the cops suffering these terrible fates, again and again. And for Stabler to not even immediately cuff him? Sooo ridiculous.
RIP to Robin Williams but his character an enemy to Liv's life in SVU. To be honest, William Lewis, him, and Johnny D I don't like that's interfered with Olivia Benson life throughout the series. Because I don't like how they were treating her. I understand it's a big part of the script. I just want Olivia to be stronger as she is now which I admire.
One of my favorite episodes of the series Robin Williams was awesome as the Villian Merritt Rook

What's that in English? It makes no sense.
I miss robin...he was an awesome geine...
For a comedian, he's really good at serious rolls.

What’s the odds on the chick being down for “ATM”?
Robin could have played Carl in the inevitable live-action UP.
Stabler to the rescue!
Great comedian, yes . An even greater actor ? Most definitely.
😐😐😐
Let's not forget Jerry Lewis as the uncle of John Munch
Great episode. i only saw it once and it never aired for me again
As if wouldn't have cuffed him after hands on head.
If Robyn didn't get an Emmy for this...😢
Woeful
The lighting is like Apocalypse Now.
Goddammit, we lost an amazing talent with him.
Robin could do all kinds of funny :-)
Imagine if police were this efficient in real life?
I hope there is a season two and this time a happy ending.
Get your mind out of the gutter.
What are you talking about?

Robin Williams he rules man he was king He's God
The fact robin played as a mentally unstable person in this speaks volumes because he felt the pain and used it for the role before ending it
Even with Robin Williams this show still stinks.
