Brighton was always a local city for us when we lived in the UK and not one we realised we loved so much until we left England. We spent the day in Brighton with our family exploring the beach, the lanes, the pier, the i360 and more 🇬🇧

Nice to meet you! My husband and I are Japanese, but I love England. I visited Brighton a few years ago. I remembered that the potatoes were stolen by the seagulls ☺︎ Also, I want to go to England with my son! Thank you for the video that conveys the atmosphere of the city ♡

@@MattandJulia Thank you for your reply! Come to Japan 😊 There are many great places. It is hot and humid in summer, so it is recommended except in summer. But I think Hokkaido is easy to spend even in summer 👘🍣

Great video. For the benefit of anyone wanting to visit Brighton may I make the following correction. Where you are at 2:23 in the video is actually the North Laine district of Brighton. The Lanes is where you are at 2:58. It's confusing that the names are so similar but they are two separate areas. The Lanes are particularly known for it's antique shops and jewellers.
I really enjoyed visiting Brighton with you all, thanks for taking us. I’d love to visit England one day, great video as usual

I know it was hard to see every thing in one day but missing the Royal Pavilion out was unforgivable, its Brighton's most beautiful piece of historical architecture, maybe next time you can show the culture that Brighton has in abundance as opposed to the tourist stuff.

Harriet and I enjoyed our time in Brighton when we were there. How ironic, When we were living in Boston, Ma. , As kids we enjoyed an area called Nantasket, almost identical to the City of Brighton.It's so true that one doesn't realise how the memories you miss of a place make you love it so much more. Thank you two for this video. We have been many times to Brighton as we lived in South London, We now live in Wiltshire as South London was too expensive and a nightmare to drive around in. For the price of our two bed semi in South London (Coulsdon. So the suburbs) we bought a four bed detached property near Swindon. We have been back to Brighton a few times and one of those was when Fat boy Slim played on the beach nearly 30 years ago also the last time was a friends wedding. Both times was a nightmare for parking, Apart from the parking issues the place is full of many places to eat and buy unique items/clothing of which is lacking in some other big towns in the UK, as they are becoming or are just a few Independent shops being overtaken by mainstream ie Dominoes, Subway, KFc ect , You have to venture out to touristy areas where the wealthy live to find more independent shops but they do charge high prices, Apart from that Brighton is a vibrant interesting place to visit, but maybe outside of summer time, as it can be super busy. Thank you Mat & Julia for your channel, of which we came across recently. You both are down to earth honest and heartfelt in your stories/journeys around the world. I have lived in Brighton all my life. It’s been turned into a pigsty by the Green/Labour town council who care more about enticing yet more students into the town than they do keeping the place clean. It’s blighted by tagging and graffiti and rough sleepers. I’m ashamed at the state of the place.

At one point, the presenter claimed he was in The Lanes. He was in fact in North Laine, somewhere altogether different. A "Laine" is an Anglo-Saxon word for a plot of land at the foot of The Downs. This area is now filled with many independent shops including retro clothes stores, flea markets, a weekly open market, lifestyle shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. The Lanes, on the other hand, is Brighton's oldest quarter of narrow "twitterns" enclosed within East Street, North Street, West Street and King's Road.

as an 11 year old when we visited in the mid 1960s I was so excited that they had arcade games like that and slot machines that kids could play and win real money.. Not like over here in N.America where all you could win was some piece of junk toy or stuffed animal.

I love Brighton. I went to uni there. We spend a day in Brighton almost every time we visit the UK and Roly's Fudge Pantry is one of the places we always go! Sea salt and clotted cream fudge 😋 you can't buy that in Bosnia!

When I was in UK. I saw empty boarded up streets under a constant grey sky, litter everywhere.
Homeless people sleeping in doorways. Opioid addicts out of their mind and women so drunk they urinated on the streets. It's a sad declined country
Unfortunately there are many parts of the country like that, not everywhere but they income gap is only widening
That's exactly what Brighton's like these days. Just yesterday I watched a bunch of homeless try gang up on a Tesco security guard. Trying to rob the place. After multiple attempts in ended 3-0 to the security.

Fish, chips and seagulls.... reminds me of when my fish and chip lunch at Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco was dive-bombed by a single gull while I was consuming my first chip.
