Ah it is so lovely that you visited my home!!! I love living in Brighton. British people often comment that there isn’t really anywhere else like it in the UK. I’d say Bristol is the place that comes the closest… If you come back, you have to go to the seafront and try an ice cream from Marocco’s. EVERYONE knows it and in the summer the queues are huge. Brighton is famous across the UK for being a place that is not only incredibly socially liberal but also has managed to maintain a good balance between the old and the new. You have the Laines and we don’t have any out-of-town retail parks spoiling the views. You definitely get the best of all worlds with the sea and London not being far away. Only downside is that it is massively expensive. We pay London prices but don’t get a London salary.
The West Pier is wonderful - I was born in 1983, so I was never able to see it when it was open (my mum and grandparents said it was really nice) but it's iconic and long may it remain.
I’m so pleased you came to Brighton 😎 However, you barely scratched the surface. We have the Marina, the Volks Railway, the Racecourse & so much more to enjoy!!
If anyone is wondering what happened to the west pier, in 1975 it was closed forever due to a severe arson attack, which burnt it down to metal, since then it has been hit by waves which have caused erosion, damaging it further. My old Next door neighbor, who sadly passed away, was on the pier when it was burnt down. Prior to this, it had been severely damaged during WW2 which damaged a lot of the infrastructure, I hope this helped.
It was closed in 1975 due to the owners not affording the maintenence, it gradually fell apart, greatly damaged by the storm in 1987 and no access since 1991, then was burnt due to an arson attack in 2003. I hope your elderly neighbour was ok, must have been traumatic getting over to it to start with!
Brighton is great. It has a little bit of everything. Like a mini London by the sea and it's still (just about) affordable, if you're prepared to live 3 or 4 miles along the coast and take the regular buses in.
Brighton is such a great city. I feel like when you visit Brighton, you have to go down to the beach for fish and chips and ice cream to follow. You just have to, after all, you're by the sea
Living in Brighton, that was great. You were so close to the main streets of North Laine (nothing to do with The Lanes, a laine is an old strip of land, not an alleyway) just round the corner from the burger place. Three streets of "bohemian" shops, cafes and pubs. I hope you got to see it. My favourite area in Brighton.
An excellent video. With your love of music and films, Brighton was used for the excellent Quadrophenia movie by The Who. There are iconic scenes from such that you could have stood at. Something for another day when it is warmer!
I come from Brighton and one of the saddest things I have ever witnessed there was watching the West Pier burning down and how we lost such a large part of our history in a matter of 3 hours 😢 ❤ Brighton
Brighton's North Lanes are good with a bit more music and alternative style accents. Plus Brighton is a funny old city with cool places tucked away and semi hidden. The stables for the Royal Pavilion has been converted into a venue and is called the Brighton Dome.
Lovely here innit. I could well have bumped into you down the seafront this morning. The people along this section of the coast are really quite friendly and tolerant. You visit here you might get a wrong impression of what most Brits are like. LOL, with a slight lament underneath. The only problem with Brighton are the beaches (he says shaking his head). I'm from a place that has proper sandy beaches.....unfortunately, Northumbria has colder weather. Always a fly in the ointment eh?
The Lanes is a place that you need to explore..so many winding passageways with lots of cool shops including Choccywokydoodah chocolate shop. The North Lanes are very like Camden Market with cool shops and cafes
Nice weather! I was playing at the Brunswick over in Hove back on the 9th of April and it was foggy that day - I could just about see the West Pier from there as it was that foggy.
It's the Isle of Wight you can sometimes see from Brighton. The Isle of Wight has the Uks oldest pier, which was opened in 1814. Not much on it really other than a ferry terminal and a train station at the end of it

Another fantastic video a great reporting!
Thank you, Stephen!
Brighton is great. It has a little bit of everything. Like a mini London by the sea and it's still (just about) affordable, if you're prepared to live 3 or 4 miles along the coast and take the regular buses in.
You can see the Isle of Skye from a helter-skelter on Brighton pier lol!!!!!
Brighton is such a great city. I feel like when you visit Brighton, you have to go down to the beach for fish and chips and ice cream to follow. You just have to, after all, you're by the sea
What a luscious looking brownie
So glad you enjoyed our city...my wife and I are from South Africa been here 4 20 years. ❤
Thanks for your review of my adopted home city x
Im from York and live in Brighton. Totally agree about the Shambles!
What a positive and nice couple.
Thank you, Peter!
Thanks for all the information, Mark!
Only fools think that the West Pier is an eyesore! Glad you loved Brighton, it's my home town :)
I love Brighton, this was place of the first holiday I ever took my boy on, good memories
Awe, that's lovely!
Brighton is one fantastic place
Nice enjoyable film 👌 when the suns out England is great 😃
Hope you got to see the starlings at roosting time, they live under the pier and the murmarations are amazing
Loved this x
Thank you!
I love Brighton
Where I grew up and where I currently live. I can see the Palace Pier from where I live.
You are living my dream! Being able to explore the UK for longer, with my dog, would be heavenly. ❤
As a Brit, Born and Bred, you've beat me! I have never visited Brighton!
You should visit! We really enjoyed it!
So glad you loved my town ❤ To answer your question, I adore the West Pier ❤
Glad you came to where i live and work . thanks for this blog interesting watch on your views.
Thank you for watching Steven!
Love Brighton x
We did too!
Oh, that brownie sounds amazing!! 😋
Brilliant, there's loads of Flour Pot Bakeries, I don't go to that one but I love those Sausage Rolls.
Brighton's North Lanes are good with a bit more music and alternative style accents. Plus Brighton is a funny old city with cool places tucked away and semi hidden. The stables for the Royal Pavilion has been converted into a venue and is called the Brighton Dome.
The correct name is the North Laine; a local word for field.
Looking forward to your view on the coronation and the pageantry of it all x
You can eat anything you want for breakfast, I often have a pie or a Cornish pasty! As long as I get a decent coffee too!
Good one.
It really is a lovely place!
