Come in for a 3 year later comment that the sewer tour is one of the biggest attractions now. It's quite fascinating. On a sad note, there is a fee to get on the pier, just a quid and only in the busiest months but it' still worth it, in my view. From a 20-year B&H resident, still the best place to live in the UK for people of an open mind.

I lived in Brighton from 1975 to 1979 while I was studying in Sussex. I have also been around all over England, Wales and Scotland. However I think the best place is Brighton. The people are very loving and care for you the atmosphere is great it is a very lively town ..
I had my best 5 years of life I still cherish.
When ever I visit I make sure to visit Brighton.
All the friends are gone but I still enjoy the stroll cherishing memories of my younger days .

A couple of years ago, having lived a bit up north, but mostly down south, my family decided to go to Brighton for a few days. I wanted to get a feel, as I like to explore, and give my family the impression that I know where we’re going. Your video was fantastic. My kids complained. They didn’t like the walking. But I’ve got to say that I had a huge head start because of this video.

A Brilliant Review. As you say; Brighton is London on Sea. It has everything that London has, without the hassle and pollution. We re-discovered it pre Covid Lockdown, and visited several times on day trips and weekend stays. However, there was never enough time to experience all that Brighton offers so we are booking a week's holiday this summer. Brighton has preserved it's unique history such as the Lanes, the Pavillion, its architecture, Pier and Funfair, whilst also modernising without compromising or replacing its history. There are traditional pubs and modern bars that appeal to all. Restaurants and Cafés offer excellent menu choices from every part of the world. Instead of shelling out tens of thousands of pounds on Regeneration Officers and consultants, those in charge of trying to regenerate our dead and dying coastal towns should instead hop on a coach with you, visit Brighton and copy what they see.

I grew up in Brighton and still live nearby. The city has a lot of flaws but there's some wonderful parts to it that you captured so well. It's a shame you couldn't visit the Sealife Centre, it's beautiful in there. Used to have my birthday parties in there as a child. Also I remember going on the ghost train as a child and being terrified. Looking at it here I'm wondering how on earth it scared me so much!

I have been to Brighton many times, and have both good memories (some have 'become' sad ones) but love it for its great laid back vibe , and bohemian attitude (that a lot of other places lack).
After returning to the UK after living for 3 years in Spain, it is that, which has made me so aware of all the great towns, villages and places that we have in this wonderful country.

As a Brightonian who left some time ago, I really hate the whole London-by-sea moniker. Back in the 90s and early 2000s it was such a fantastic place with its own identity and culture. I'm so glad I grew up there but it's not the town it once was. It's literally become a caricature of itself, with the things that made it what it was often being priced out. It's now a business designed to rinse people, mainly from London.

We had a holiday in Brighton and Hove back in 1977. I was only 5 at the time and not like the beach, but had a great time, enjoying the fair on the pier, the dolphin show and walking around Brighton following this way to the circus signs. There was a circus in Brighton when we were on Holiday but we never found it the signs just keep taking us round in circles. Since then I visit Brighton when I'm on holiday down the coast in Eastbourne, always try to fit my holiday when Surrey cricket team are at home at the County cricket ground in Hove. Brings back memories and want to get down sometime with my college mate. This was my great uncle and auntie's favourite resort when the lived in London in the late 1950's/early 60's before they move to Hull.

Worked underneath this pier from 89 to 94 i think it was, used to be cast steel replaced with 50ft bridge girders which were originally black, the squidgy board means it lacks a box section stool below it, the main reason the centre of the waltzer fell through the decking onto the steel below, had to rebuild the deck around it, fun times.

  • @majorbrighton

Think it was about 1972 when I left Brighton for the last time. Now I´m 68 and have never been back there. I had heard from friends that it was not the same and it´s to be expected right.
Yet I used to love Brighton calmness back then. As a child I could ride down through Dyke Road and the Clock Tower to fish on the West Pier or buy worms on Palace Pier. Palace Pier had very different entertainment, you could have your future read for a penny in a Theater arcade box. They have several of them with animated puppets that would come to life.
They only had a Mat slide that went round a tower and it scared me as it hanged over the edge of the side, not very safe!
I can see that many trees have gone and the people are too many. I recognized The Grand and the Aquarium. Those boat shaped breakers were not there though. I have been frightened to visit, due to lost memories and change. So thank you for the film. Yet Brighton is not a City! Unless they have built a Cathedral since 1955 Not shore I would call that sculpture art though?!

Hi Tim, the drain in the side of the groin is a storm drain, they used to do trips up it. I think it's a H+S issue now. Didn't see you touch on the volks railway to the east of the pier or the marina. I had family build that, family that worked on the volks, family that worked in the old market up London road.
That's right I'm from Brighton born and bred.
The pubs and clubs set into the seaside walk are some of the links the old prince regent used to use from the pavilion, there are disused tunnels all over Brighton for home to get around.
Years ago I worked in the coop department store in London road (now student accommodation like 80% of Brighton) and the store room was some of the tunnels. Just some added info for you

Thank you Tim for doing this video of Brighton, I live down the road in Worthing, Brighton is so diverse , love it . The North Lanes are amazing ! Lots of different shops and stalls , always buzzing . Did the eye 360 on a very clear day and again amazing , although I don't do heights so a friend had to take photo's for me LOL

Great video again Tim. Superb quality picture and camera work. The big pipe by the pier is where the sewage tours come out, but thankfully the tarot man has warned them in advance.

I love Brighton. You have done a great job highlighting all the nice things to see and do there Tim. We spent a lovely afternoon on Brighton Pier watching the starling murmuration. Will never forget it. It is one of the highlights of our (numerous) trips from Australia to Great Britain.

Love Brighton. Yes it has its flaws with a lot of homeless people etc but it has real character and keeps on keeping on, unlike a lot of our seaside towns. The Lanes are great and the pier is as well. A lot of great pubs and decent restaurants.

Great Vid Tim we used to go to Brighton quite a lot before we bought our caravan in Great Yarmouth it’s a nice place but I think Great Yarmouth is much calmer to walk round and it’s a nicer seafront look forward to the double lives this weekend mate

I’m cracking up at your comparison of Venice Beach to Brighton. I’ve never been to Brighton, but as a Southern Californian, I have been to Venice Beach many, many times. I can tell you, the two don’t even come close. Brighton is lovely, Venice Beach, not so much, lol. Thank you for another wonderful video. ❤

I clicked on this thinking it was Brighton Beach and the boardwalk area along Coney Island in South Brooklyn, New York...it kinda looks like Brighton Beach and the boardwalk on Coney only the New York version is more Eastern European than British nowadays. Great place for authentic Eastern European food, they even have a couple decent fish and chips places.
