    I dropped off my daughter's macbook air for a screen replacement, 40 minutes later it was done. I could not believe how fast he was able to repair the issue. Thanks Milan

      How can someone do a repair in 40 minutes? He must not have much work to do. My shop is typically 60-90 computers behind all the time. I get around 30 computers dropped off daily at my shop for repair.

    Thanks for this video!
    Just did this repair today and WOW, it's a pain. Lots more glass on my end from the screen; very very tedious work the first time, however I think moving forward it won't be so difficult.
    A tip for anyone else doing this repair in 2021 that I got form another video, remove the hinge cover when re-connecting the LVDS cable to the controller board- it makes it 100x's easier. Also make sure the screws go back in the same place, the silver screws have two larger circumference ones and 3 smaller circumference ones; i accidentally put a larger one in a smaller ones spot not noticing and i thought i damaged the whole screen! turns out it just kept hitting the controller board- took it out and put it in it's right spot and it worked fine.

    Thank you Milan. Your previous version of this video is what I used to fix my screen. Most things can be achieved with patience and care (going slower than you) but the hardest part for me was getting that backlight ribbon cable in. I started to wonder if I'd made a mistake attempting this. The so-called "locking mechanism" on the ribbon cable doesn't lock it at all... Eventually, I got it in somehow and the screen is beautiful and perfect. Can't even tell it's been replaced!
    THANKS!

    Thank you. Followed your video to the letter, took me about three hours, but the new screen works great. The backlight cable threw me off a little when plugging it in. The way the cable is folded, the intuitive way to plug it in results in plugging it in backwards. I watched another video on TH-cam that addressed that specifically, and saw the error of my ways!
    For those who may be looking for that painting knife, it's called a "palette knife" and can be found at craft stores or Amazon.

    Thank you so very much - I was able to do the repair. After a spill the screen in a 2015 MacBook Air had washed out colors and a slow ghosting mouse. Took apart and main board look good. Hardware ok by Apples online check and one learned repair cost at Apple store. Due to spill would have cost nearly as much as a new computer to repair.
    So using this video and $90 for screen on eBay and buing the 3M 300LSE tape (1/2" and 5 mm) I was able to repair and works great!. My first screen. Not easy but can be done. Watched the video several times before doing the repair. You had the best video I could find for this

    Very fine video, not like some of the amateur wannabees. You are very patient with all the questions. Watching your video, and having previously replaced the screen on a Mac Pro, you have given me the confidence to give it a try. Doing it for a friend with a dead screen, she doesn't think much to lose by trying. Very helpful. I will post an update if it happens.

      Actually, depends for who. New 27" retina iMac can be open in less than 10 mins if you have a proper roller-blade tool designed for that. Than opening that thing is a breeze. Now balancing that huge heavy screen is a different story :-)

    Pro status repair tips. With this guide - not ones with heat - I managed to tackle this repair no problem : ) I've fairly well versed experience with the previous generation macbooks. this was the first one with polarizer films and a jack-knife backlite ribbon ( I hate that thing ). I learned a lot from this and great tip on using rubbing alcohol to weaken the adhesive. Thank you!

    great video. looks hard, but maybe worth a try. my problem is, i have had a repair shop look at my MacBook air A1466, and they reckon it's the panel, and wanted to charge me more than the cost of a decent 2nd hand MacBook air to replace it. so, I said no thanks. But before i buy a replacement panel and try this repair, how can I check it's IS the panel that needs replacing?
    I connected a spare monitor via the thunderbolt port and that didn't work either, so how can I be sure the panel is the problem?

This band apear before the boot up, before the apple icon appears on the screen. Is it possible a problem from the system update? or is a screen problem that should have to be replaced? I can now see there is a bit of a damage on the end of that cable. What do you suggest I do at this point? Can I replace that cable?

    Milan, thank you for the great video! I am wanting to replace the LVDS cable only and am wondering if this can be done without totally removing the screen. I am thinking that I can at least leave the two cables on the bottom of the screen connected but I am not sure. I also can't find online the connection point on the screen for the LVDS cable. And obviously I am going to have to remove at least one hinge from the main computer to remove the old, broken cable. I turn 66 tomorrow and am getting too old for surprises! I have bought a palette knife and your special tape so I'm good to go on the bezel. Thanks for your time and for the fantastic video!

    First off, I congratulate you on an excellent video. My only question, is the double sided tape the foam type or the clear double sided tape? I am have difficulty finding any double sided tape. If I hadn't already purchased the screen I would have sent to you for replacement. Congratulations once again and keep the good work.

    • @milanstojic3295
      @milanstojic3295  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't use the foam double sided for airs. It would make the bezel stick out to much. For retina models I will have to start doing that. Tape that I use I buy online. It's 3m core 4000 series I think. Also an alternative tape u can buy off of www.rossmanngroup.com
      Run a search on the website for the tape and you'll find it. Take the 5mm and 10mm if they still have. For screen u need 5 for bezel 10 or 12 but even 2 strips of 5mm will do on the sides.

    • @milanstojic3295
      @milanstojic3295  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have replaced probably 400+ of these screens, and each and every time adhesive on the bezel is clear on the outer border of the bezel, and black gasket type on the inside border of the bezel. There is also black adhesive holding the screen in place. So no, the Mac was opened for the first time and original adhesive on these assemblies is as described above. I have had original assembly replacements from Shenzhen to work with, they are what these laptops come assembled with in the first place and it's the same. Not sure what you worked on tough...

    I've seen lots of videos regarding to mac air screen replacement and it is the best!! Thank you so much. Let me ask you something. The backlight of my mac air doesn't turn on and if i put my phone-light on the screen, it's very dark but i can see everything work fine very lightly. In this case, the backlight strip that you didn't remove on the video needs to be replaced? OR the strip cable of the panel is broken? I guess it's probably the backlight strip because everything works fine with the phone light. Can i get any advise for this? Thank you :)

    • @milanstojic3295
      @milanstojic3295  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the compliment!! :-)
      Ok so when the backlight is not working it can be one of 4 things. U damaged the strip cable(happens to many, I'm also assuming u plugged it in correctly not upside down which many try to do because it's a bit tight in there), you shorted one of the resistors close to the strip cable connector on the board of the screen (this causes the fuze or backlight IC on the logic board to blow up and u will need a logic board repair), you damaged the backlight pins on the LVDS cable when u were plugging it in (this can also cause the board circuit to fail and u will need board repair, or you damaged the little board in the screen itself when u were reconnecting it all.
      There is no way for me to really tell which one of these is the issue until I see the laptop. I do fix all kinds of issues so if u decide u want me to take a look at it let me know.

      +Milan Stoic Thanks vey much! So, what would you suggest to be the cheapest way to replace it? Apple asked me almost $500 to replace it, and the screen itself costs almost $400 (in the United States.) I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions! Take care.

      As a precaution, you can. It's always better to have no power in the laptop when doing this, although I rarely do that, since I have a specific way of pushing the LVDS cable back in and it can never short anything out. Backlight cable won't short anything however you push it back in, so for an inexperienced person doing this at the beginning, yes, I would recommend you do so.

    • @milanstojic3295
      @milanstojic3295  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are looking to swap the whole assembly from one to another, it will work, you will get the picture, but camera/wifi antenna cable might not be compatible. Depending on the length of the wifi cable and type of camera connector (this changes with years of production).
      If you want to take the LCD out from one assembly and put it into another one I can almost guarantee that you will break at least one or both and have to pay to fix them afterwards.

    mac air , what size screw driver do i use for the two tiny screws that hold the connectors on
    the 13" mac air, i have tried several different sizes and have not been able to remove them
    don't want to strip them

    • @milanstojic3295
      @milanstojic3295  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are referring to 2 screws that hold the controller board for the LCD that's a Philips Snead screw. If you can't remove them, and tried, you probably stripped them already. If that's the case just use a bigger Phillips and press harder. If they don't come out you will have to rip them out with a flathead

    Great video! I gave a question for you. My new LCD to was working great until I put the bezel on. Once I put the bezel on I got a gray screen. Do you know what happened? Do you think this will happen again with a new LCD?

    • @milanstojic3295
      @milanstojic3295  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe you cracked the LCD when you were pressing on the bezel. New screen will work fine if you don't crack it again. Check for glass on the sides under the LCD. This is most likely how you cracked it. It sucks that you will have to buy a new screen again, and it will cost you more than if you would have had me replace it for example.

      If it need a new screen, you can follow this video to replace the screen, or find a specialized shop to take care of it for you, if its too difficult. Not sure what you mean by external equipment.

    • @darlynejean-noel259

    • @milanstojic3295
      @milanstojic3295  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would suggest asking that guy to explain what he meant by that. Broken screen that needs to be replaced is one thing, but external equipment has nothing to do with your screen. Unless he has no idea what he is talking about and wanted to sound "smart", as dumb tech usually do.

    My Macbook Air has dead pixels on the screen and the dead spot is getting larger and larger as the days go on. Would this be a screen replacement or do I need to replace the whole screen assembly?

    • @milanstojic3295
      @milanstojic3295  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adam Arocho dead pixels are on the LCD so if you have dead pixels than LCD replacement will resolve that. A lot of times people mix an actual crack with dead pixels, pixels don't spread that easily and fast but crack does. Also some people experience white spots which are not dead pixels which are under the LCD on the inner layers

    • @milanstojic3295

      Any screen you find that says it's for your model should be compatible and fully functional unless they send a defective one. I haven't see a single one that was "fake" or bad colours and stuff. On the other hand, they are stupid expensive now and a reason I don't do repairs any more. Last time I looked for just the LCD was about $300ish. Just for the LCD. You can find a functional assembly for about that money or a bit more.
