    This is the best lcd replacement video I've seen on youtube. Ignore that other person who asked you to edit it. I enjoy the detail, as it is a detailed procedure. I'm a little stuck. Unlike you, I removed the back layers because the screen was broken from the apple logo and I needed to flatten out dent on the outside housing. I can't for the life of me figure out the correct order of the layers. Is there anyway you can help with this? Thanks in advance.

    • @milanstojic3295
      @milanstojic3295  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Flattening out should have been done before you open the screen assy first :-) you push with your thumbs until the debt goes out or plastic if it was the logo that broke. Unless it was really bad and u needed a hammer to do it. The order is white non see through paper than thick stiff plastic (these two are the backlight so if you cracked this stuff plastic you done for) than shiny sheet than one see through sheet and than another shiny sheet. The first shiny sheet and the front shiny sheet are just a bit different and even if you don't put them in correct order it will work but they should be placed correctly. Let me know if this works out for you!

    • @JBB175
      @JBB175 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Milan Stojic Wow, that was fast! Thank you. One more question. I've got them in the order you described. but on the layer closets to the lcd, one side is textured and the other side is smooth. Which side goes up towards the lcd?

    • @milanstojic3295
      @milanstojic3295  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The side that is textured goes to the LCD, smooth side goes in. I'm sure you'll have spots and marks on the screen but it will be functional if you haven't damaged the backlight plastic.

    • @JBB175
      @JBB175 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Milan Stojic Everything is put back together and it looks great. Thank you for your guidance. Unfortunately when my girlfriend dropped a bottle of perfume on the back of it, it cracked the thick white plastic back light sheet right in the center, as well as the lcd. I couldn't find a cheap replacement for the broken back light sheet. So she'll just have to deal with that, but now it's at least usable. She's happy. You might have even helped me get laid tonight. ;)

    This is an admirable video. I do a bunch of screens every year. This was helpful. I would say this add in for whomever reads this post. Watch out using any high heat guns. The plastic film diffusers behind the screen may distort. I used a Hairdryer instead of heat gun and just worked the bezel with fingernails at first just to see.. It lifted a little in an area and I worked a credit card inside and then slowly worked around it I had a mini metal spatula available at BBB and used it. The tool this guy has looked like it worked well. Be patient. The other comment is that as I suspected when it came to how this gentlemen released the cables that is also accomplished by heating the perimeter of the screen until it can tilt toward the keyboard top first (just move the glass screen toward the keyboard as you would closing the lid. them once lying face down those cables are really easy to release and they don't stress. Thank you Milan for posting this video.

    Hey Milan, Saturday I replaced the LCD on my mid 2011 macbook air & all worked great! Thanks so much for your detailed instructions! I have a couple of observations/suggestions:
    1) I got my painting knife at AC moore, for those who are looking for one.
    2) For some reason, the part you had said was the hardest, which was the removal of the LCD using the pryer and the heat gun, went extremely smoothly & took about 1 minute to do.
    3) Despite trying to be very careful not to (per your instructions) I had a lot of trouble avoiding touching the backlight translucent layers beneath the LCD. I dropped a miniscrewdriver on it which left a mark, plus a couple of other times, leaving quite a few little marks on the film. I was quite worried that after I put it all together that it would look awful, however none of it showed at all and the screen looks perfect.
    4) Despite the fact that you were very clear about making sure to put the middle ribbon cable back exactly as it was folding, I, somehow managed to put it on backwards &, of course nothing worked. Fortunately, I put 2&2 together & put it how it was supposed to go. For those of you planning on doing it, make sure that you can see the white stripe on the cable after you install it.
    All in all, everything went well & smoothly thanks to your detailed instructions. Thanks again for taking the time to do this, I really appreciate it!
    Sincerely,
    Brian Hiltscher

    Long shot because this was posted so long ago, but my screen is completely black. I hear the Apple sound when I boot it up, but nothing on the screen. I flipped the ribbon connection but it didn’t help. I did damage my backlight screen with the heat gun. It curled slightly in the corner. Would that cause the whole screen to be black? I tried to try my old screen but nothing with that one either. Although the old screen was severely cracked and little shards of glass are everywhere so I’m not shocked. Help 😩

    You're a f***ing legend! I finally made it to repair this thing after several hours of focused work. I took it to a repair store here in Bern, Switzerland and he wanted to change the hole assembly so i decided to replace it by my own. I costs me around 40 bucks in the end (he wanted 400!). I did a tiny scratch on the back sheet but it's not too bad, you won't see it straight away. The backlight cable instead was a b****. It was fine in the beginning but then started to have a loose connection and I had to take out the bezel again. I noticed that there was a cable like thing on the old LCD, that had the same shape as the backlight cable. I chucked that one in as well and then the connection was fine. Milan, I can't thank you enough for your super detailed guide you uploaded here! Now my Mac book air will live on for some more years to come!
    Cheers

    Just successfully replace the screen on my laptop. Boy was I sweating! No way I could have done it without this video! I was a bit naughty and get a lot of crap, fingerprints and scratches on the panel behind the screen. I used a brush to remove any particles. Once the screen was back on, it looked great! Can’t see the scratches or fingerprints at all. Thank you so much for this video! All the best

      if there is no backlight i would check the backlight cable. there are 2 cables connecting the new screen. the wide one, and the small bent up flex cable in the middle which is the backlight cable. people very often plug this upside down as they dont know how to roll this cable up properly.

    I think it's a bad replacement screen. Sending it back after seeing a screw driven into the board. I tested the old cracked screen to be sure the backlight does work, and it does, so,
    I guess it's a bad screen. I lined up the 2 boards of the screens to compare them and noticed and small screw driven into the board.

    • @milanstojic3295
      @milanstojic3295  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you say it works with the old screen, than that would be it. The screw might have damaged the circuit that powers on the LED strip on the small board from the screen. It should be close to the LED strip connector on that board. Just get a replacement and not bother with it.

    • @milanstojic3295
      @milanstojic3295  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you haven't blown a backlight fuse on the board, you probably didn't correctly plug in the little cable in the middle of the screen control board. Very often people forget it or plug it in upside down.

      Carlos Montoya That's because I don't take them out. If you would follow what I did you would never have them come out. how do you change the cable?
    do you have to take apart the LCD from its layers?

    • @milanstojic3295
      @milanstojic3295  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Proper way is to take off the bezel only. Nothing else needs to be removed to get to the cable. Careful not to break the lcd

    Zdravo Milan!
    Thank you for your great videos. One quick question: I've damaged the glass that is behind the rear reflective sheets. Is there any chance to fix it without replacing the whole thing (screen panel)?

    • @milanstojic3295
      @milanstojic3295  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      that sux. u broke the backlight plexiglas and you will need to replace it in order to get even backlight on the screen. replacing this is not easy, but if you can find a new part it will be good.

    • @hdmitrijs
      @hdmitrijs 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Copy that, thank you for your quick response. I didn't break it, it has been overheated during removing the bezel and now there is a spot in the corner which is annoying.

    Hi Milan, thanks for creating this extremely detailed DIY video! I am preparing to replace my damaged lcd, have ordered to LCD, and the double sided tape (5mm&10mm). Do you, by chance, have a complete list of tools required for the job? Any recommendations on where to acquire the tools?
    Thanks in advance!

      Hi Brian. You need a pair of scissors, Philips screwdriver, thin pryer (metal), painting knife, heat gun, and a pair of tweezers. Wherever you can find these buy them. Online or in local stores

    I tore the ribbon cable that connects to the inverter is there any way to fix that?

    • @milanstojic3295
      @milanstojic3295  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      MaviHD Yes. by replacing the backlight strip, in which case you need to take all the sheets lit and remove the backlight plastic which cracks very easily, meaning you will most likely destroy your assembly. Second option is buying the assembly and replacing it with a new screen in here already. your options now are very expensive.

      Supamodz Computing Technologies Than why don't you go and SYH somewhere else, and figure it out by yourself than computing technologies. Sure someone else has a video without a shoulder blocking what you don't know how to do. And your welcome btw, for the free instructions and someone actually spending time to show how this is done...

And yeah, I will take his post as a complaint because if you went through the trouble of writing SMH twice, than you can fuck off and go watch someone else's video of something is bothering you!
