How do I fix this? Do I have to connect the whole camera to the mac for transfer?! Thanks and don't get corona.
Good info. I like your calm approach. thanks. You asked about primes. I'm shooting with Voigtlander Noktons - 10.5mm, 17.5mm & 42.5mm - all f/0.95. Their look bridges the gap between vintage character and modern clarity. Silky smooth manual focus. Declicked aperture. Will make rig front heavy. Highly recommended.
Thanks :). The Voigtlanders are definitely on my list, thanks for the tip. Really keen on the 17.5mm. I was also looking at the SLR Magic primes, have heard good things.
Of Two Lands The 17 Norton is the best of the three. Stunning image quality. I’ve heard - no actual experience - that the SLR Magics are hit or miss interns of quality. I considered Veydra - but too hard to blend in with those branded beasts.
Yeah the 17.5 is my top pick at the moment, followed by the 25mm SLR Magic. I have also heard similar reports so not 100% sure yet. What do you mean by hard to blend ?
You should definitely grab a metabones or commlite speedbooster and play around with the canon 50mm 1.8 stm. I was incredibly surprised by how great it looks on my ursa mini 4.6k. Great stuff man. You also might like playing around with adding a low contrast 2 filter to the lenses. Helps give newer lenses a softer vintage look and light halos that look great.
+Of Two Lands I'm new in filmmaking. And thinking to buy BMCC 4K now. And I want to say thank you for detailed video about this cam. Very helpful. To me at least.
I know that since you shot this, you added the Canon FD 24/2.8 and Laowa wide angle. A decent lower cost vintage lens is the Canon FD 35mm f2, or the Pentax Super Takumar in same focal length. 70mm equivalent with a very different look from the Panasonic 12-35.
Thanks for watching !! I did, and it isn't great. Then again I am used to my 5D Mk 3 stills haha. I think it is a good feature to have just in case but I wouldn't rely on it.
A very good presentation and one finally from a videographer and not a DSLR photographer (if you catch my meaning). If you're interested in a 17mm lens, give the Olympus 17mm f1.2 some consideration. I understand that this lens has been designed not just for stills, but also video. Olympus has created a series of pro f1.2 prime lenses, 17mm, 25mm and 45mm, with a 12mm coming, that are all ostensibly the same physical size and with the same sized filter, so no adjustments required for rigs etc. I'd personally consider these lenses, but I already own all their SHG zooms from the 4/3 days and I'm looking forward to using them on my BMPCC4K when it arrives. I might still consider the 12mm f1.2, if/when it gets released.
I'd like to cut to the chase and just get a nice prime. See I have no lenses that I can adapt or use a speedbooster with so I'd rather just get a MFT lens from the start. Focus by wire actually doesn't bother me as much as it used to as long as there is a digital distance measure on the camera when using a Panasonic or Olympus lens??
Well that sucks... I did notice on my A7SII with the Sony 28mm that after you set focus manually, at least it doesn't reset focus if you turn the camera off (even change the battery). I still like to see the distance on the ring... perhaps the Olympus 12-40 is the better option with its hardtop focus ring but I'd really like a f/1.4 or at least a f/1.8 when it comes to a MFT lens. I'm not sure my options for a prime that fast that communicates to the camera at a focal length around 35mm. the 20 or 25mm is a bit wide for my taste, of course it isn't wide with the 2x crop but I'll just have to back up more I guess :)
For prime lenses: I use the Walimex/Samyang 35 / 50 / 80mm each with T1.5. And for special shots the Laowa 7.5mm Zero-D. Have you tried any of them? :)
Thanks !! Nah I don't, I havent noticed anything on this one yet. Older Blackmagic models did have issues, like the original Pocket, but not the Pocket 4K.
@@OfTwoLands Thanks for the quick reply! I'm planning on getting the Pocket 4k as my A cam and maybe the original Pocket as my B cam so you'd suggest that I use an IR cut filter with that? I watched all of your original Pocket videos on Vimeo, and they all look absolutely amazing. Did you have an IR filter on those ones? I don't know why I'm even interested in the original Pocket since the Pocket 4k is so cheap anyway but there's just something on the original Pocket's image that is purely magical to my eye.
Great info, thanks for sharing! How do you find the low light on the camera? Do you have any examples of underexposed footage that you had to push up in post?
Rokinon/Samyang Cine Ds lenses should match this camera really good. They are manual focusing, fast and affordable lenses, and the quality is good too.
A lens choice; definitely check out Veydra Mini Prime! They are natively designed for MFT Cameras so they are really compact. Just remember that they are cine lenses so no IS or Autofocus unfortunately, everything is manual... But for the price you are paying, the sharpness you get is phenomena.
Thank you for this! I've got the same lens at the moment, so will be very interested in what prime you get. What ND are you using on your current lens?
Thank you for this video. Just a quick question, you mentioned you wanted a different lens/lenses to get a more "cinematic" look. What is wrong with the current 12-35mm lens ur using that cant give you the "cinematic look? Im sure the primes are maybe sharper and allow more light but would that make it more cinematic? Thank you
Hi, thanks for watching. Nothing wrong with the 12-35, i love it and you can create pretty much any look you want during the grading prores as well, including cinematic. I was more talking about a lens that would give a softer image, with a very shallow depth of field. Some lenses, including nice primes, give you a look that you can't really replicate in post :) Hope this makes sense.

Hi thanks for the video brother. I have a question. Do you really think the old BMPCC is more cinematic than the new one? Watching the footages from both cameras, the original BMPCC looks organic and filmic. What's your opinion in that??
Thanks. Another very important question is: does the camera close-out (save) the file being recorded when the battery dies? Some have already said it does, but others say that it corrupts and loses the file forever. What are your experiences here? Thanks again.
I am not sure yet as I haven't tried. It is summer here in Australia haha. I am taking the camera to Europe next month though so I will be shooting in sub zero temp and can let you know then :).
@@OfTwoLands I got in touch with Blackmagic Support EMEA and they said: "I have spoken with one of our development engineers and they say that under normal operating conditions, even around 0 degrees, the camera works fine. But like any electronic equipment, once you expose it to extreme weather the likelihood of something going wrong increases. However we do not test below 0 degrees so we cannot predict the behaviour." What is up with not testing the cameras below 0 degrees? I do not like the sound of this. Sounds very sketchy. :-/
Great info. I am trying to get into this filming thing to shoot family events and some youtube vlogging and the video quality of this camera in its price bucket seems remarkable. plus living in AU I would love to support Aussie business :)
Hello, just a quick question about the shutter(Photo) button? have you try the quality of still photography of BMPCC 4k? or its just like a frame grab from 4k video. Thank you
Sure. iMac 21.5 4k 2017, 3.6Ghz (turbo boost 4.2) i7 . 500 SSD 16Gb Ram Radeon 560 with 4GB Video Ram. And yes everything runs smoothly, it is not a rocket of a computer but decent enough for 4K footage :). Cheers
It should be ok, just make sure you have enough RAM and a decent processor. The files are heavy especially in uhd or 4k even if Prores is edit friendly.
I am not too sure about this but because of the fans at the top I would say to be careful about the usual sand and rain for example. So whilst it isn't weather sealed it is nicely built so pretty sure it can handle a bit of the elements but I wouldn't push it.
I have a question since the manual is quite vague. If I want to shoot a full hd video at normal framerate (say 24) I don't get any crop or window mode right?
So do you think its a good idea for me to get the ninja V and us e my old BMPCC? will i be able to record in 4k or RAW 4k, or shall i sell it and just upgrade to the new BMPCC 4k
I think it is possible for sure, but it might not be practical just because of the battery life, media size, lack of internal ND filters etc. But you can definitely make it work :).
Thanx for great video, I always trust your videos. :) Im also about to get this camera with exact same lens as you have, ppl are talking alot about speedboosters what can you recommend and are they good and "important" I mean must have to get more out of this camera and lenses? Sorry Im noob when it come to these cameras. Thank you!
Thanks so much for watching :) !! The lumix 12-35 is a great lens. I think speedboosters are more for people that already have lenses from a different brand and want to use them. Speedboosters also allow you to make your lens 'faster'. A very good lens is the sigma 18-35 1.8. But to be honest the 12-35mm 2.8 lumix is a very nice and capable lens. That's the one i've been using even if I own a lot of Canon lenses as well. Hope this helps.
BTW you missed one thing I always wonder about this camera, how is it as handheld camera, Im iPhone shooter and love the handheld rock steady shots (great stabilizers in these iPhones). Im not planing to get any rig or cage etc, I want the lightest kit I can get. :)
Hi, great video! I like the comparison you make with the first pocket. I had the original pocket myself (2014-2017) and really liked it. Now I am so exited about the new one. I pre-ordered it back in April and it should arrive in two days! I am looking forward to use it and share opinions. All the best.
Great stuff. I can't wait to receive mine! Keep making videos that do the P4K justice. Also... what's the song in the background? I like it a lot for some reason.
Hello Of Two Lands (and anyone else reading this), Is it possible to use an LPE6 dummy battery? Is there a hole so the wire doesn't get cut? Any info on this would be great. Thanks. - Paul
There's 3:1 & 4:1 Raw DNG that can hit 60fps with the SSD & most Cfast. You'd only really want lossless RAW for VFX work. In which case, you could get the quickest Egodisk cfast card (575mb/s, I think!).
Yeah you can record 60fps 4k prores, that it what I use all the time. Raw Lossless was just a test to see the footage at the highest resolution with the least compression :).
thanks for help! hope the BMP4k will be in Ukrainian shops soon.. and about lenses.. I'm using G85 and couple lenses: kit 12-60mm f3.5/5.6, Leica 25mm f1.4, Leica 60mm f2.8 and advice to you try pana-leica lenses. there are has more interesting character and rendering)) think will be more cinematic look with BMP4k lumix than.. When you export the files for final cut what is the settings
I use the built in settings for youtube which is a standard H264 .mov file at around 35 mbs in UHD.
Would you by any chance know how the camera performs below freezing temperature? Below 0, 10 and 20 celsius degrees?
I am not sure yet as I haven't tried. It is summer here in Australia haha. I am taking the camera to Europe next month though so I will be shooting in sub zero temp and can let you know then :).
@@OfTwoLands I got in touch with
Blackmagic Support EMEA and they said: "I have spoken with one of our development engineers and they say that under normal operating conditions, even around 0 degrees, the camera works fine.
But like any electronic equipment, once you expose it to extreme weather the likelihood of something going wrong increases. However we do not test below 0 degrees so we cannot predict the behaviour."
What is up with not testing the cameras below 0 degrees? I do not like the sound of this. Sounds very sketchy. :-/
Thank you! Helpful video.
Alex López No worries, thanks for watching 👍
what about vents on top? Can some dust get through them on the sensor?
They work very well, and it seems that they did a good job with the design but I would be careful with dust and rain for sure.
The fan cools the cpu. Not the sensor so much. The camera needs a good cpu to process 12 bit lossless raw
Great stuff! Thanks!
Thank you !!
Have you figured out a battery solution for it or are you just using native ones?
I'm just using the Canon batteries and it is more than fine. I have quite a few and they are cheap and light :)
Thanks for you video !!!!
No worries, thanks for watching :) !!
Great info. I am trying to get into this filming thing to shoot family events and some youtube vlogging and the video quality of this camera in its price bucket seems remarkable. plus living in AU I would love to support Aussie business :)
Thank you indeed for the honest feedback!
Thanks :) !!
Hello, just a quick question about the shutter(Photo) button? have you try the quality of still photography of BMPCC 4k? or its just like a frame grab from 4k video. Thank you
It just gives you a single cdng frame of video. This is a video camera not a still camera.
@@etx313 thank you
Hi, yeah I wouldn't recommend it for stills. Might be useful if you need to take a frame on the spot but that's about it.
@@OfTwoLands Thank you, but hows the results?
If you can will you do an audio test using an external lav or shotgun mic?
Hi, can you tell me what configuration do you have on your Mac !? and if it runs great, no lag when you edit the footages ? Thank you !
Sure.
iMac 21.5 4k 2017, 3.6Ghz (turbo boost 4.2) i7 .
500 SSD
16Gb Ram
Radeon 560 with 4GB Video Ram.
And yes everything runs smoothly, it is not a rocket of a computer but decent enough for 4K footage :). Cheers
Nice thank you ! Keep the good work !
Hey, thanks for review! I got a question about alternative charging via 12v 2pin port. Did you tried to us it? How it works?
What about the rolling shutter?
Thanks for this video bro it's appreciated!
No worries, thanks for watching :) !!
Thanks excellent review. 👍🏾
Thanks a lot !!
nice - honest - opinion. Thank you buddy. I have subscribed, your sad eyes.... I hope life is still good for you ?
How is the pockets reliability? Could you see yourself using it for 10+ hours for like weddings, events, etc?
You definitely could, although it is not something I would personally do since it is not my line of work :).
Wow, thanks for the quick response! Much appreciated!
I'm very new to film but will be buying it soon. I have a Macbook Pro. Will that be sufficient for editing Prores?
It should be ok, just make sure you have enough RAM and a decent processor. The files are heavy especially in uhd or 4k even if Prores is edit friendly.
You can edit 4K by setting up a proxy work flow in Adobe Premiere Pro. Super helpful when using a MacBook Pro, which doesn’t really handle 4K editing.
Hey. You say that the video was painted through the movie converter. what kind of device is this?
bro what about weather seal? is it good in every weather conditions?
I am not too sure about this but because of the fans at the top I would say to be careful about the usual sand and rain for example. So whilst it isn't weather sealed it is nicely built so pretty sure it can handle a bit of the elements but I wouldn't push it.
I'd loved to see a 4k 60fps slow motion demo!
Third Man Productions I’ve posted quite a few 4K 60fps videos :)
can we edit the footage from BMPCC 4K on FCPX directly instead of using Davinci Resolve?
Yeah for sure :) Prores works great in FCPX.
I have a question since the manual is quite vague. If I want to shoot a full hd video at normal framerate (say 24) I don't get any crop or window mode right?
Hi. Have you tried using an NVME M.2 Enclosure to USB C to capture raw and get past the 10-second mark? I heard the Samsung 970 pros are super fast.
So do you think its a good idea for me to get the ninja V and us e my old BMPCC? will i be able to record in 4k or RAW 4k, or shall i sell it and just upgrade to the new BMPCC 4k
If you use your old bmpcc, you will only be able to record 1080 since the camera doesn't shoot 4k. I would suggest to get the new one then.
What are those speakers on your desk? They look sick :)
Haha, thanks :) !! They are Presonus Eris E4.5 Studio Monitors, really nice and good value.
Do you think that is possible to record weddings with it?
I think it is possible for sure, but it might not be practical just because of the battery life, media size, lack of internal ND filters etc. But you can definitely make it work :).
I have the same questions. Baterry is not a big problem. Just buy few;*/
I’m getting a $287 power supply for it. Lasts 4 hours and displays battery. Straps to the bottom
Could you link me please :)
IamSuperic th-cam.com/video/gCIEqrYkZ6s/w-d-xo.html you can buy from adorama or b and H tax free. Don’t buy from their website unless you need to.
Thanx for great video, I always trust your videos. :)
Im also about to get this camera with exact same lens as you have, ppl are talking alot about speedboosters what can you recommend and are they good and "important" I mean must have to get more out of this camera and lenses?
I have only shot handheld so far so it works great :). This is the way I normally shoot with small cameras anyway.
Nice review......Can this camera fit onto a freefly MoviM5?
Thanks !! I am not sure as I don't own one and I haven't seen anyone using it yet. The camera is quite wide so not too sure..
Thanks for the quick reply, i wish there was someone here in the Uk with the camera so we can test it
No worries :). I think a few stores have them in the UK already. I have seen a couple of videos in London so might be worth checking them out.
Fits nicely on my movi m10 but I had to order some right angle adapera for HDMI and USB.
Have you any experience of the weak IR filter showing up?
Great Info Mate. Keep It Up.
Thanks :)
Any vignetting at 17 mm? Problems with ISO 1600 (clipping)?
Hi, great video! I like the comparison you make with the first pocket. I had the original pocket myself (2014-2017) and really liked it. Now I am so exited about the new one. I pre-ordered it back in April and it should arrive in two days! I am looking forward to use it and share opinions. All the best.
Thanks for watching. Happy for you :) !! It really is a fun cam to shoot and so much better than the original in so many ways.
i cant see any focus peaking when i use a medabones speedbooster, have you experience this?
How do you view all clips on the camera after you shoot? I’m only seeing the last clip.
If you can views the others by clicking on the arrows at the bottom. Either left or right.
Can you do a comparison with the old pocket?
Unfortunately I do not own the original pocket anymore :(
Great stuff. I can't wait to receive mine! Keep making videos that do the P4K justice.
Also... what's the song in the background? I like it a lot for some reason.
Hello Of Two Lands (and anyone else reading this),
Is it possible to use an LPE6 dummy battery? Is there a hole so the wire doesn't get cut? Any info on this would be great. Thanks.
- Paul
As an option, you can easily remove the battery door.
Also, what is a good mount for EF lenses?
Nice shirt!
Haha, thanks !! I was wondering if someone would mention it haha.
@@OfTwoLands Sure! Haha
Patagonia rocks!
I'd like to know how it fits gimbals like Ronin-MX. I doubt about the width of the camera body.
Have you experienced any slight vignetting with the 12-35 between 12-18 mm ?
I haven't noticed anything yet. Might need to do some tests and see. If there was any vignetting it must not have been enough for me to see.
How about recording on HD? I know I won't need 4K for a while (I don't have the storage nor horsepower), is recording to the SSD stable?
Nice one Flo! I’m getting one soon haha
Haha thanks man!! You’re going to love it. Such a cool cam :)
What's the specs on your Mac to run davinci resolve?
iMac 21.5 4K 2017, i7 3.6ghz (turbo boost 4.2ghz), 16GB ram, 500GB SSD, radeon 560 with 4GB video ram :)
@@OfTwoLands and it handles everything from bmpc4k Formats?
@@Albertmars32 Yeah no problems, I even edit my C200 Raw files on it.
How do you delete clips from the playback menu? Also is 1/2000 the highest shutter speed?
bro ive been trying to figure that one out, have you got it yet? if so please let me know
j massive you can’t delete clips, and 1/5000 is the highest shutter speed
I found what WB on BMPCC4k is not correct. If i use 5500K light - in camera in need set around 4900K to have correct WB. Do you have yhe same problem?
10sec in 60fps in DNG? so how about prores 60fps 4k ?
There's 3:1 & 4:1 Raw DNG that can hit 60fps with the SSD & most Cfast. You'd only really want lossless RAW for VFX work. In which case, you could get the quickest Egodisk cfast card (575mb/s, I think!).
@@teamkino7370 thanks for asking! And for sample footages
Lumix lenses has more digital look
Sasha Poberailo Thanks for the tip :). I was looking at the 25mm 1.4 actually
I've been looking for the background track you have for some time. Do you know the name? Aussie stock music site?
Can you adjust the recording volume while filming?
That's a good question. I am not sure if you can. I need to check if you can access the menu whilst filming.
Of Two Lands I'm guessing no since you really only see this feature in full size Cinema cameras
Can I use ipad as monitor with this ? Like I can use in sony alpha camera
Hey there love your work! I've noticed you shoot alot around the ocean. Have you had any issues with sea spray and sand regarding the fan vents?
Hey, thanks so much !! No I haven't so far, though I am being very careful haha. Fans don't seem to be an issue. :)
@@OfTwoLands Awesome, thanks for the reply much appreciated! I might just have to get one and get some kind of weather shield to be safe perhaps.
Mine is in the post 🎉
Do you think they would make a battery grip for the bmpcc4k
I am sure someone will come up with some sort of solution :)
Panasonic 25mm F1.7 is a super sharp awesome prime lens if you haven't tried that already.
