    Special thanks to both Ferraby Knives and Mike Burgess for allowing me to come and film them both in action - two great guys. Please do check out their website to see some more of their awesome work:

    Offering internal 4K RAW, 13-stops of dynamic range, and Full HD recording up to 120fps (windowed), the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K marks an impressive step up from Blackmagic Design. Building upon the foundation of the previous iteration, this model adds features to make many more expensive cameras blush. A 5" touchscreen, full-size HDMI out, LUT support, and mini XLR input are also on-board.

    I think people aren't being thankful enough for being handed a gorgeous piece of hardware that can shoot RAW footage and even offer the option to record straight into a SSD card! #BlackMagicDesign has done a wonderful job here and I appreciate that. Nice review, the footage looks amazing.

      You're so right, I understand why people are a little skeptical given BM's past but in a few months if the results are what we've seen so far and there aren't a plethora of problems that people start running into, this camera is going to be absolutely huge. For the price, nothing compares to it.

      I think it’s an amazing camera and the definitely killed it right out of the gate. I think this camera is borderline perfect. The only thing I would change is maybe articulating screen. Doesn’t have to flip around but at least tilt. I do a lot of shots low to the ground and would love a tilt screen. Can’t wait to get my hands on this and will probably have to get a monitor for it

    Lovely thank you! I love the simple OS on a touchscreen; such a relief to use when on location. If a reviewer had the time and the suit, It would be great to see something a bit less beautiful such as a boring corporate talking head outdoors against the sky - the daily grind of most shooters I know!
    Lovely grade too, (and actually useful to see that couple of frames of ungraded towards the end :). ).

    this is an excellent balanced review. The sample clips are some of the best I've seen so far coming out of the BMPCC-4K. A couple of fuzzy tapes will reduce the wind rumbles and audio distortion significantly - that is if the operator forgot to bring the pro audio capture system. As for comparison to DSLRs, just because this camera has the DSLR form factor it shouldn't be compare to DSLRs. IMHO, the form factor is the only wrong thing with this camera. Had BlackMagic, stuff all these feature in a rectangular(ish ) box, they had a much better reception. This is not a DSLR - BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera is a Filmmakers' camera.

      @JamesJacksonFilmz 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree and the wind resistance is not bad especially being fully exposed. Wouldn't use it for professional use obviously but in a pinch or if it's the only audio you have, it's quite usable.

  • @kp66udv
    @kp66udv 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How good the IS is when you shooting with the Lumix 12-35 2 with IS turned on?
    Second question, do you think there is a need for using Olympus PRO series lens to get a better looking image (do you think so?) and a better manual focus experience (do you think so?) ? If that's the case, then the only Olympus IS lens is the rather big 12-100 4 PRO. I'd definitely prefer the Lumix's 12-35 2.8 and Lumix 35-100 2.8 simply for their portable size and weight with IS feature.
    Thanks, it's a great video!

    Finally a good review of this product.
    Q: i'm still a bit confused on the 60p RAW loseless recording. would that be possible only on the internal cfast 2.0 or also on the external SSD?
    Recording that only on Cfast would raise the memory $$$$$ a lot.
    I've already ordered the camera and this just make me more sure of my choice.
    Clear, techincal not too much and really good shots take of the 2 artists.
    Thanks for the good review!

    Thanks for posting this. I really like what I'm seeing from this camera. My concern is data rate. A lot of what I do is event and wedding videos, or corporate interviews and promotional videos where I'm capturing a lot of footage. I use the GH5 now and usually shoot in 100mbps or 150mbps, and that's a lot of data, but from what I gather the Pocket 4K, even in ProRes, is a much higher data rate. I'd love to know more about practically how that works for you. I'm torn between getting a couple of these as B-Cams (or even A Cam) or a GH5s or two to fill that roll alongside my GH5, and the cost of Hard Drives is definitely a consideration.

    • @Itsallgoodtogo
      @Itsallgoodtogo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If high bitrate is an issiue for your workflow ... just use ProRes LT. I believe it uses 400 Mbps at 4k and 100Mbps at HD.
      If you are using 4k and not using atleast 150 mbps you are doing it wrong anyway but ... if you realy need to go that low you can use ProRes Proxy. Thats closer to your bitrates.

    Hi Kriss! Nice presentation you did there!
    I personally already have enough collect information and features about BMPCC capable of, and I don't doubt about it.
    So, about the battery life..did you really get 50 minutes battery life when you shoot the video? If YES, do the resolution preferences affect the battery life?
    (e.g.)
    At 4K RAW you'll get 45minutes
    At HD RAW you'll get 55 minutes

    I like the look of the scene with the knife sharpening a lot.

    but I have some doubts
    I have lenses with Canon EF mount
    1 - What do I lose if I use adapters? image clipping? aberrations? focus? touch focus?
    2 - can I record with this camera for one or two hours continuously, like a normal video camera? (obviously with banks of batteries and large hard drives) but the camera would support that?
    3 - the touch focus works while the camera is recording?
    4 - If I can not use my lenses with EF frames, what lens do you recommend? that give me quality and price

I'd go with that camera as its got so many more features/qualities that make it a more well-rounded filmmaking camera - assuming that you're fine with not having a full frame camera. If you NEED to have a reliable autofocus, in fact, the best IMO, then go for the EOS-R. Thanks for watching! KH

When I was filming with the chainsaw artist there was lots of small pieces of wood flying at the camera - no doubt some bits will have gone in, but no issues so far. Thanks for watching! KH

      In my experience with cameras that have vents, I've never had a problem and have filmed in extremely dusty environments. I don't think you need to worry.

    Hello, how is manual focusing on 12-35? I’m interested in this camera but I’m having hard time to decide between this lens or the nikkor primes. This lens looks really good but I wonder is the focus degree long enough for manual focusing. I’d appreciate if you can answer. Thanks for the video

      Hey Virginia, I only really shoot with manual focus (unless i'm specifically showing of the AF for a camera), and the same goes or this video. I think the 12-35mm F2.8 is a lovely lens and makes for a nice combination with the BMPCC 4K - I wouldn't hesitate purchasing it (again) for video use. It's my main lens on my GH5s also! Cheers for watching. KH

      Wex Photo Video thank you very much. At the moment I have an FS5 Atomos Shogun inferno but I’m not able to get very good results with it. I’ve watched your video about FS5 before but exposing with this combination is still a mystery to me. I purchased Daug Jensen’s FS5 master class, watched Alister Chapman vidéos but still... I think big part of my problem is that I’m still confused by atom hdr. I love fs5 and shogun inferno but considering switching to this camera. I wish I could learn how to properly expose fs5 with inferno. Then I’d stick with it. Anyway... thanks again. Great videos.

    3:35 - I heard you can't record RAW to the SSD...? There are a couple rumors out there about that... like, none at all and one says you can't do 4K 60 fps only. Do you happen to know which is accurate?

      Im sorry but nothing is fast enough because the port itself is not fast enough to do 60p loseless raw, I have heard that they can handle 4:1 raw for bursts of time

      @@nicholasboule5134 It seems like you have a hard time listening or reading... The video said ALL... ALL meaning ALL... Smh, people really do listen to only what they want to listen to...

      since most cinematographers shoot in 24fps in more curious if the camera can record 4k lossless raw at 24fps; with short bursts at 60fps or 120fps in scaled 1080p for slow motion shots

      Wakko Warner yes it can... It has the high frame rate button that allows you to do just that

    Paired with BMPCC4K, the barrel distortion from Panasonic 12-35 is horrible. Yet the distortion in ur footage is almost unnoticeable. How did you cope with it? Lens correction in post? Zoom in a bit? OR???

    Quite the bargain, footage honestly looks pretty incredible (not sure if you graded or not, kinda looks that way). Can the Sigma 18-35 be mounted on this with all of it's potential in use, or will it be a cropped image?
