    Thanks all the way. This is truly helpful and what my doc advised me to perform the scar massage every day till the 3 months of period. And in between he told me to use the silicon sheets all the time and even saying that applying the Vaseline. So my question for you is, is it good to apply the silicon sheet on the where the scar has already moist with the vaseline or the area should be clear enough to apply the sheet or before/after it works ?

    I had a forearm fracture one and a half year back that was treated with an implant. At that time I did not do any massage and I could see a thick lump poking out when I would do wrist flexion. I think it was because of scar. I recently went through another surgery for implant removal. They opened the same area. I have been doing massage this time. Do you think the old scars would still be there and can create more resistance?

    • @ForwardTherapy
      @ForwardTherapy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      scar never completely goes away - the tissue is composed of different type of material. and any time the skin is opened (such as during surgery) you will develop more scar tissue.

    I have been using silicone gel(dermatix) from week 3 onwards since I got stitches on my forehead. It's been 6 weeks and it's turning into an indented one. Do you recommend anything in addition to 3 times massage and 2 times silicon gel application in a day? My concern is it still looks pink for a clean cut which is 6 weeks old. Do you think silicon sheet works better for an indented scar?

    • @ForwardTherapy
      @ForwardTherapy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scars can take up to 2 years to mature - if it’s pink, means it’s still remodeling and still pliable. I’m not familiar with the gel product so not sure I can make a fair comparison. But silicone sheeting would be better at providing the constant pressure which has been shown to reduce scarring...I would think!

      @@ForwardTherapy Thanks for your reply. From what I have read there is very little evidence of silicone sheets working for the indented incision line. Do you think it's worth a try? At what stage should I consider laser for even texture.

    Hi. I have surgery on my hand 7 weeks ago, i start with the theraphy on my scar 3 weeks ago and the last week and today my therapyst using a succión pump but is very painfull .my question is , is ok or normal using that on this time? Because every time they do that on my scar i have pain for 2 or 3 days ..

    • @ForwardTherapy
      @ForwardTherapy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry it's been painful! the cupping (or suction pump) is actually very helpful for scar tissue, and adhesions that form. I trust the therapists judgement, they know your case better than I do and will know what is safe for you at this time! I often use cupping/suction on post op scars, after they've healed and are strong enough to handle the tension. I would tell them how many days you have pain for, but it is not abnormal to experience pain/soreness after this treatment. I would recommend icing it after your treatment!

    • @ForwardTherapy
      @ForwardTherapy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This isn't my area of expertise specifically, but all scar tissue can respond to massage! The collagen matrix lays down as a big tangle of scar tissue, and massaging it will help it organize so it is smoother and more flexible. I found this article about using silicone gel (like topi gel, which I often use in hand therapy) www.nature.com/articles/s41598-018-25697-x and it looks like it was helpful in reducing the scar thickness!

    Is it normal for scars to be raised 2 months after surgery?

    • @ForwardTherapy
      @ForwardTherapy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! Scars typically lay down the most new tissue between 3-6 weeks after surgery, and they look thick at this time. Scar massage can definitely help with this! Scars can take up to 2 years for them to mature (we all have different healing rates). When the scar becomes white in color, it's usually matured. But if it's still pink or red, you can definitely remodel the tissue!
