Gave this a go yesterday on course. Had to hit a soft high pitch shot off a tightly mown collection area green side. Was a weird setup because it was wet and could have easily chunked it even though it would normally be very firm there. I had played with this a little the day this video came out and decided to give it a try. Opened up the clubface to activate the bounce, applied this grip, and it perfectly bruised the turf without digging at all. Ball went up, one hopped and stopped on about a 15 yard pitch leaving 3 feet for a par putt. It was the shot I needed, there was too much slope in front for a bump and run and anything short would have come right back. Great tip!

A++++ tip. I watched this video 10 minutes ago then I went to my front yard and tried it with my 54*8* bounce and I hit ten shots and everyone was close to perfect!!! I love the tips that actually work!!!

Steve, this Hoviland grip is a brilliant tip. I have been having problems with chips for a while, but today I
employed this grip change and relaxed my body and went 8 out of 8 chips within three feet on my round. Your teaching style always works for me. Thank you! Dan, Lincoln, California.

I love this tip! A few months ago I strengthened my grip for all shots. Both the left and right hand. First time out with this, on the first hole at my home course, I had a short pitch over a bunker and decided to weaken my right hand but leave the left hand strong. It just felt right. It was a blind shot but I heard the ball hit the pin. It went in! Next hole, I was faced with a similar shot but with no bunker. Same grip. Same result! This time I got to see it go in. Back to back chip-ins! That was cool! But I thought the grip and results were just a fluke. Did not know it was an actual technique. Now I know why it works and will utilize this. Thank you Steve.. and Viktor!

Three rounds since English golf has returned, this has been a revelation! It just works, few little practice swings to get the speed and ground contact worked out and boom! Holed out for birdie with a twitchy little lob wedge from 20 ft being the best result. Works all the way up to 50 yard pitches so far for me

Hi Steve, I used to be amazing with my shortgame and am really bad lately, fatting and thinning anything from 50yards in. This video reminded me that a change I made was that I had this exact grip with all my shots and had a major fading problem, but that was the time my shortgame was good. I changed my grip to more neutral with a weaker left hand and stronger right hand... I can't wait to go and do this with my shortgame and see if FINALLY this was the reason I lost my confidence.

I would argue that the exact opposite grip, weak Left-Hand Grip with grip also slightly in the Palm of the hand & slightly Strong Right-Hand Grip, gives you more repeatable face control than what you're demonstrating. This Bryson-esque Left-Hand Grip (and why he does it) is much better for consistently delivering the face back to the desired position at impact (also more like a putter grip), and the slightly stronger right grip, puts the wrist in position to deliver that little acceleration through impact that makes for great repeatable high spin contact
