    The ES looks better than the A6 on the exterior. The A6 looks better on the interior. The drive is subjective. The ES has the more compliant and luxurious ride quality, while the A6 has a more sporty ride. For me, I prefer luxury and comfort over sportiness, so my money would go to the ES.

    I don't know about A6; but has been in the market for E Class. Always loved Mercedes. Test drove 4 different E Classes. Then test drove an ES, and it completely changed my horizon. Ended up ordering one. Can't be happier. I'm not even talking about reliability. The refinement of Lexus is second to none. So comfortable, smooth, and quiet. I don't care about performance, but it's fast too; in fact, the hybrid one is very fast and responsive. Fuel economy: 5.4 litres per 100 km for combined driving in over 850 km.

    I think you are forgetting a major point in this comparison. The real thing a Lexus shines for is their reliability. Which for some reason ALOT of reviewers tend to forget (or do it on purpose really). You can drive a Lexus for 20 years without any issues, with amazing resale values. whereas a german made car would have to go through several fixes, faults and other issues in just 5 years. The thing just breaks down so fast. The value on a German car also drops significantly compared to a Lexus. That alone should make you think twice before you ever buy a German made car this expensive, if you value your money that is.

    • @DriveSection
      @DriveSection  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While I didn't address that in the video, I did cover the subject of running costs substantially in the written review linked in the description which is incredibly in-depth. This video is really just meant to be a companion to that full article, with it being a quick overview of the way the two cars drive and the features they offer as if I went to that level of detail it'd be half an hour long.
      Just to play devil's advocate though, while yes, Lexus' reliability record is pretty impeccable, most people buying cars like this new are likely leasing them for only a few years, so getting something European for the short-term isn't as much of a worry. It's the people buying something used (like myself) that it's more of a concern for quite frankly.

      It definitely would be - I've previously driven the new Toyota Crown (now based on the new TNGA-L platform) that a new GS would likely be based on like previous models, and if they do come out with a new one and it's anything like the Crown, it'd be a fantastic machine that would certainly give the A6 even more of a run for its money.

    This is a great video. I was in the market for a new car in 2019 and these were the exact two cars I was debating between. I LOVE both cars for different reasons, and you honestly cannot go wrong with either cars in my opinion. It really depends on what type of driver you are. Are you into smooth comfort subtle cruising. Or are you into a driving dynamics, acceleration, and handling. Don’t get me wrong, the A6 is still a very smooth and comfortable drive, but not as “pillowy” as the Lexus.
    At the end of the day, I chose the Audi A6 Prestige due to the AWD drivetrain, better torque and handling (I got the 55 TFSI 3.0L Turbo- not the 45 TFSI shown here), and MUCH better technology: safety system, auto dynamic radar cruise, BSM, Lane tracing, etc. For those not sure how good the Audi technology is (automation, safety, radar, and HD camera systems), I highly recommend test driving both cars. You will see the difference. And yeah, I am aware that there was a $18k (US) price difference in the cars (Lexus ES Ultra Lux vs Audi A6 Prestige) ... so not really a fair comparison if money is a factor.
    Lastly, for what it’s worth. I will consider buying a Lexus, but I will never buy an Audi due to reliability. I purposely leased the Audi bc of fears of reliability, as well as maintenance cost out of warranty.

    • @DriveSection
      @DriveSection  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm glad to hear you're enjoying you're happy with your decision to go for the A6 - speaking from experience, the 55 TFSI is definitely the one to go for if you're after performance as it's a great engine.
      I think I mentioned in response to another comment that realistically, most people are leasing these cars rather than buying them, and so reliability isn't as big a concern for those only hanging onto it for a few years. Of course, the Lexus would definitely be the one to buy and live with long term, but objectively, the Audi is the better car at the end of the day.
      The main takeaways though is that the ES really does now give the A6 a run for its money, and that the A6 really is good enough to justify the premium.

      Style is subjective. Definitely not biased one way or the other about this test either - I spent a week with each of the vehicles tested here going into both with an open mind and putting around 800km on each before arriving at the conclusion I did. The whole point of this comparison was to see if the ES could truly give the A6 a run for its money now that Lexus is positioning it against it, and the truth is that it did - it's just that the Audi is good enough to justify the price premium it has over the Lexus.

    Prefer the Audi A6’s ride quality. Softer doesn’t always mean better. If you drive/ride for long hours, it can get tiring like an Adidas Ultraboost which is too squishy not suitable for All day comfort. A6’s bit firmer ride is more BALANCED.

    Can the germans really compete with Lexus?
    - worse engine (downsized, still not efficient)
    - worse transmission (unreliable af)
    - still costs more because fancy bling bling interior
    Not being able to put a efficient, affordable and reliable hybrid on the road, 23 years after Toyota already did.... No they cant compete with Lexus.
    But sadly everyone needs 0-60 times and more and bigger Turbos in their Life

    • @anoop4243
      @anoop4243 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Can Lexus really compete with Germans? The Germans in general:
      - Way more powerful engines (turbos, Electric assist, some even with counter phase steering to give you the best driving experience possible.)
      - Mostly have DCT's and are built with performance in mind when you want it, or comfort ( BMW even lets you choose the speed of the shifts)
      - Luxurious interior with the most latest technology available in cars. Pretty much incorporates all the technology available. Constantly updated with the latest technologies each year.
      These German cars are premium luxury / performance cars, intended for people who can afford it. It is not for people looking for affordability, reliability, resale value, fuel economy etc. If you are, then get a used Corolla or something .. just an appliance to get from A to B. Looking for all these in a premium luxury/performance car, is foolish.🤷
      So yeah, unless Lexus incorporates all these traits that the wealthy seek, it'll never be close to the Germans in luxury/performance.

    Both the interior and exterior of the Audi are nicer. My choice would be the E-Class or the 5 Series, but if I was gonna spend less I would go with A6. Apart from better reliability the Audi is much more superior in styling, luxury and power. Lexus is for those who want a higher quality alternative to Toyota.
