As a kid, I always said one day I'd own a Mercedes or BMW. Now, a couple of years out of college & finally being able to afford a luxury vehicle, I own a Lexus. It truly is the best of both worlds. Luxury with Toyota reliability.

It's not an excuse but it's the reason. When you're trying to be on the bleeding edge of new tech, you're bound to experience teething pains. Lexus stays with what works and only implements new tech when it's been proven over time whereas Mercedes is in a tech war with Audi, BMW, and Porsche which inevitably leads to all of them tripping over themselves.

Megatron its about culture. Japanese always innovates but will never sell it before it is proven reliable. I’ve experienced Japan and I tell you, their reputation is everything. They’ll give gifts which is the best out there. Toyota started the hybrid but never had problems the moment they put it in their vehicles. Meanwhile, Germans and US cars will put technology to increase interest and sales of their vehicles. They couldn’t care less about reliability as for them, the moment that cars drives out the lot, its not their problem anymore. Investors and profit is number one priority. While the Japanese, it’s their honour.

@@thelarry383 Toyota doesn't innovate? Isn't hybrid much more difficult than implementing DSG? And where is BBA on new energy cars? I only see Tesla and Nissan and even Hyundai. So poorer reliability and expensive maintenance are not because of using new technology. It is because the technology isn't really good.

This is a sponsored video, possibly funded by manufacturers themselves.
This guy is a lier, people have gone broke maintaining a German car like Audi, Jaguar, BMW or Mercedes Benz
All German cars are money pits. Until rich people stop buying them, then only these manufacturers will start manufacturing quality cars.
He is a spokesman for BMW, Mercedes Benz, Range Rover or other European cars. This video is sponsored.
German car manufacturers are afraid that so many videos would expose Mercedes Benz Range Rover or BMW as crappy cars.
This guy is a big supporter of Crappy German & European cars. He gives excuses for why German cars are garbage, won't last beyond 2 or 3 years.
Most likely this video is sponsored video. It's a well known fact that German cars are now manufactured for hedge fund millionaires who won't keep the car for more than 2 or 3 years.
And German manufacturers won't allow people from lower society to 2nd hand Mercedes Benz, Range Rover or BMW.

Having owned many different MB years and models and having been a former Porsche/Audi Technician for many years I can give a bit of insight on this. The problems that I had with most all of my MB's is extensive. It got to the point that I would be dependent on reading the MB forums to see what problems I might expect. One was the need to carry a rubber mallet in the car for when the shift interlock failed and the car would not come out of park. Sure enough it happened to me also. Luckily I was prepared and able to free the shifter with my mallet and get home. I switched over to BMW's with much better success. Just recently I moved over to my first Lexus. Now I'm kicking myself for not having done this years ago. The difference in quality of build and comfort is amazing. I will give it some time, but right now I could never see myself going from the Lexus back to MB.

Try driving a brand new right hand drive 4wd Mercedes - ANY right hand drive 4wd Mercedes - they ALL have the same issue when turning hard, they grind and skip in the most horrific way, it's nauseating. I guess Mercedes couldn't be bothered engineering the RHD 4wd models properly. If I was buying a german car, it'd be a BMW - they at least have a good reputation for after-market support from their dealer network here. I did take one for a test drive recently though and the steering was horrible, dead feeling, and the wheel was like holding a donut it was so over-stuffed and puffy. Right now I'm going to keep my GS, which sadly Lexus have discontinued.

Lexus IS more reliable but Mercedes driving experience, ride quality, handling, and presence is just superior. Almost every Lexus I’ve driven I’ve felt disconnected from the road and they lacked passion.
And if you know which Mercedes are most reliable you can get a great car if it’s been properly maintained. My 2016 E350 has had zero problems at 50k miles but there are new CLAs that break down off the lot. You have to know which ones are good and you should buy the ones that are made in Germany

Certain years of Mercedes are to be avoided, just like Lexus. 1999 to 2010, these were the dark years for Mercedes during their merger with Chrysler. Some coincidence that their quality would suffer? I think not. Bet the tried to cut costs and use too much Chrysler. Mercedes has vastly improved since 2011 but are they like the 90s and earlier? No... but what brand is?
Lexus had tons of issues in the beginning despite being a Toyota offshoot. They've improved a great deal since those years, but still cannot compare to those classic Benz that lasted for 3 million miles.
Additionally, Benz aren't "money pits" unless you go thru the dealer. Parts are marked up when they get stamped with Benz star but if you source them directly from the manufacturer, they're cheaper if they don't have the 3 point star. Same goes with other expensive brands like Porsche, Lotus, Cadillac, etc.

    • @jperkins1269
      @jperkins1269 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The problem with Mercedes is you can’t find a 3 million mile car anymore. The other thing is they are so complicated to work on that you end up going to the dealer. No doubt they make nice cars but for the average working person who isn’t rich the hands down choice is a Lexus. The average Joe doesn’t want their repairs to cost more than their car.

I have owned Hondas (Civic, Accord) and Toyotas (Corolla)in the past, most of them were driven close to 200,000 miles. I’m now daily driving a 2005 W220 Mercedes S-Class (the one that was deemed the worst S-Class of them all). It drives so so nice and quiet, of course way better than all the cars that I’ve owned and better than most new mid-size sedans. The thing just passed 100,000 miles and was babied by the previous owner.
It did give me 2 problems within the past 2 years of ownership: one rear airstrut failed and the PSE pump failed. I enjoy doing mechanical stuff on my own so I bought aftermarket unit and installed them myself, which was surprisingly pretty straight forward. Getting those parts replaced at the dealership would have costed a fortune.
Other than that, it’s been rock solid and reliable! The 4.3L V8 and 5-speed transmission are actually known for their reliability. Just oil change and that’s about it.
I do enjoy the older MBs than newer ones, only because I have test driven a few and didn’t like the screens too much. When I look for a used MB, I would advise to find those that were manufactured in Stuttgart, Germany rather than America, and most importantly those that have good service records and were loved by the previous owners. Other than that, I do agree that it could potentially be a big money pit.
That being said, the take away is, even though MBs are less reliable than Toyota/Lexus, any car can be unreliable, and that is entirely depend on how people treat their cars. I find cars that are loved by the owners and wouldn’t mind spending money when work need to be done, you’ll have a much better chance of getting a good one. Another point is, if you wouldn’t mind put some elbow grease in and do some research and work on car yourself from time to time, it isn’t bad at all! I spent more money on maintaining my old 2006 Civic than my S-Class 😂
I also think we should all be nice to each other. You can own whichever car you want. If it makes you happy and you think that it’s worth it, then it’s worth it! Have fun!

We usually drive them to 500.000 km, then selling them to eastern europe. Toyota is ok but (including Lexus) pretty ugly designed. Another Lexus problem here is, that they are nearly unknown and have excessive repair costs and delivery problems with spare parts (waiting up to 3 months (!!!) for a transmission.

I’m just putting this out there but if you’ve noticed Toyota’s track record for reliability is because the company does only one thing. And they do it VERY well. While other car company’s would go around making bikes, planes, semi’s etc. Toyota literally focuses on what they’re good at, family vehicles. Which is why they’re always at the top of their reliability game.

Reliability is not what Mercedes buyers' concern. They are more likely not going to stick with the same car long. Instead, they will tend to change it once the newer-rebuilt model come out. Try to compare the people like that with those who plan to keep and use their car for years is useless. Otherwise, Mercedes Benz will be out of business.
