Correct. The reality is there is no way to identify the true expression of a heart or hearts through music or sound, it's just that. True expression of heart and love. It is Yussef Dayes type of music.
No more questions about this! You said it right bro!! The other day a friend told me "they make no more good music nowadays" y replied: you mean massive industry... but there's great music happening nowadays! Just think Yussef's album was released in 2023❤ love to people reading this. You have a great taste of music guys!🎉
I've sad the same thing. It's just that you would not hear good music on mainstream radio and that represents the biggest audience. What is weird to me is that Jazz was once mainstream. But yes there is so much good music today.
This is mainly 'commercial' music, i.e. music intended for the mass market, the quality of which has declined considerably over the years. Fortunately internet made the access to "smaller" artists way easier!
I've been drumming professionally most of my life (I'm 63) and Yussef Dayes inspires me like no other recent drummer. I love how he's tuned his side toms here. And that beat on the second track is mind-blowing. His groove and technique are just amazing. This is lovely, groovy, funky music. Music at its best, really. Enjoy. Thank you KEXP, especially your incredible engineers.
I know nothing about drums, let alone music - but that drummer, Yussef, seems to become more and more "clean" - by the minute! (Yes, I am aware of him - he's played with many people, including Tom Misch.) Genius band members - ALL!!
Like U just commented: the 2nd song reminded me of Dubb-step, an 'electronical studio-beat', love to hear the Jazz version live.😂😂😂 And I must agree; absoluty wel played, all of them, for that matter.🥰
For those of you who aren’t aware, that is Pino Palladino’s son laying down that sweet low end smoothness. And if you don’t know who That is, well enjoy your deep dive.
@@mismo358 For me, it’s got to be his work with Paul Young back in the 80’s. His playing on Paul’s cover of Anne Peeble’s “I’m Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down” is so so good. It could also be why D’Angelo wanted him for that session.
Indeed - I love how he uses download programs, if he's using them on his keyboard, very interestingly. He changes the timbres according to what the band wants to convey. ❤
Why does KEXP (like BBC Six Music ) work on so many different multiple levels? Because there is such a wide variety of talented musicians that they introduce us humble listeners to. So many artists we would never have discovered on most mainstream musical channels. Here is another case in point: a talented group of musicians performing truly beautiful and chilled sounds. Love it...
I listen to KRCL out of Salt Lake City. It’s non-commercial radio with a lot of fantastic people behind it. Same thing for lots of independent radio stations. !! Support your local independent radio station :-)
They are all fantastic musicians but man Rocco is going for new heights. Drums and bass are complement each other perfectly, gj on the sound engineering!
The KEXP host of this segment is the son of the legendary Larry Mizell of the Mizell Brothers who produced Donald Byrd and many others. I really enjoyed this video!
i'm so inspired by everyone here. 'What Kinda Music' with Tom Misch got me through the first year of the pandemic. 2020 was all the better for this album. 'Tidal Wave' remains forever on repeat.
I met Yussef at a small clinic he put on, it was great, he made every single person in the room play drums. He was also very humble and down-to-earth. Afterwards he spent time talking to pretty much everyone individually.
It's pretty much a given for guys like these to have a beautiful rapport with the fans. When I used to do gigs it immediately became apparent to have a massive devotion and level of selflessness
I'm listening in the US.. Washington DC...with my brother who's in hospice. The enjoyment of your sounds for a lifetime. Hope to see you live after this God's journey thank you❤

Love their music but they just recreated the sound of 70s. If you are interested the sound of future jazz. Try some nu jazz.
