Another idea, i would like to share here. Instead routing the cable through the default route we can route it through front brake hose route in the top and the rest as before. Then the cable seems less strained and cockpit looks neat. Regards
I have recently installed 45mm risers on my 390 adventure 2022. Here are a few tips: - I could not get the clutch cable fit into the black lever near the engine (in video done at 20:10) no matter what I did (it seemed to not be long enough). First thing I did was putting both nuts to the rear side of the black bracket through which you guide the cable (in video done at 16:56). This worked but after few rides, the clutch lever on handlebar was too loose and needed adjusting (which was not possible since both nuts are on the same side). *THE ABSOLUTE BEST* way to install the clutch cable near the engine is to simple unscrew the black guide metal thing that you need to lead the cable through (in video at 16:56), put it through, put the end of the clutch cable into the little hook lever at the engine and then screw the black guide back in. This way the whole installation was very easy, no bending of the cable and I can have the nuts on clutch cable on both sides. - I bought Rox Speed FX risers, which add extra 44.5mm. I did not need to extend the brake cable, however it is at its limit when steering all the way to the left so anything more than 45mm would need brake lever extender as well. If you plan on buying this riser, you will need to buy two bolts so you can install it, the included two screws are unusable as you cannot get to them.
Thanks for this video, I did add 30mm bar risers then followed this video to easily replace the clutch cable. I used a Royal Enfield Himalayan cable. I did keep the 2 lock nuts on the right side of the bracket finding it to fit pretty well. The Canadian 5 cent nickel works well to measure the free play.
Great video and detail as always! I just followed this install and this guide was amazingly helpful. The bar risers have made an incredible difference, can't believe I didn't do them as one of the first upgrades now I see the difference, ergonomics are transformed. Worth noting, I got the same clutch cable from the German company you did, Voigt, and mine came with a heat shield pre-installed, so I guess they've made an improvement (maybe they saw your video). Also the same company do 390A-specific bar risers, 30mm that also pull the bars from memory 18mm closer to you, and I would recommend if others are watching this and getting the cable from that company. For me (just over 6 foot) riding position now feels perfect sitting, and almost perfect standing (still on OEM pegs, replacing should make standing position perfect if I get pegs a bit lower). Oh also, I did actually put both nuts on the same side as per OEM cable and didn't find issues with getting clutch lever play correct (that I can detect, seems perfect after adjusting, but not sure if there is a specific issue to watch for?). I tried one nut on each side but couldn't easily access the nut nearest engine that way to tighten it up, so tried OEM config and all seems good with the two together - not sure if there is some other revision from the company that makes this possible now, or if I've done something wrong without realising it, but I did check carefully all is secure and free play is consistent while steering.

Well explained, thank you for that. I am about to put on 50mm riser and I was wondering if I am going to need some sort of extension for my brake cable. With your riser on, do you think there is enough extra room even for this kind of rise or am I going to need to extend the brake cable as well?
Thanks Riko, you might be alright with the break cable. I’ve seen people with risers and fork extenders and still the brake cable was long enough, it’s really just the clutch cable you’ll need to worry about.
Didn't read the other comments, but i interpret the info on the website the cable is for MY 19- (present), not referring to the actual lenght of the cable.
Hopefully you pass inspection! We have bike inspections in New York, however, the clutch cable is not on them. (Brake cables are!) I was fortunate that since I had changed my bars to ProTapers, I did need a new cable. I bought one, so it's still sealed for when the OEM is looking a little more worse for wear. - Frank
Nice Vid...........the word issues were pretty funny. I put the fork extenders on my bike to get a bit more ground clearance and a better glide angle for the skid plate. I was able to pull that off without having to change the clutch cable though it is pretty tight now. I would love to put 1 in bar risers on but I will have problems with the brake line and the wiring to the to throttle and left side control unit........sigh. I guess I will just have to put up with a bit of an akward standing position. Probably something I will adjust to over time.

Though I’m sure there’s a fix out there somewhere. I’d get that clutch cable done though, don’t want to ruin your clutch plates, that’s an expensive fix. Cheers!
Hey Joe, I’m assuming you’re referring to measuring the clutch play at the actual clutch lever, right? While it is the most accurate way to measure clutch play, it certainly isn’t the only way to do it. Thanks for the heads up! 👍
you may use your adjustable spanners to pull the cluth while fixing the cable tip in there. with hands I found it a little tougher

Does replacing only clutch cable work for rising handlebar or is it needed gas cable or another cable to be replaced too?
A bar rise over 8cm may require a new brake cable.

No bother at all. I am not positive, but I think it’s 100cm long. The cable I install here is 110cm, much longer.

A shot of WD-40 down the protective sleeve might help reduce the friction.
