I was informed the clutch case bolt torque settings are 12Nm as listed in the manual. I missed this in the manual when I looked for it. Thank you viewers who pointed this out. The torque wrench was claimed. Thanks for watching.
Great job showing the clutch basket and parts you were working with all times. I cannot count how many how to videos I clicked off because the person put their body between the camera and what they were doing. Very nice work here. - Frank
I changed mine. Replacing with a Barnett Racing clutch plates and springs. WOW! What a difference. Excellent hook up all through the gear range. Highly recommend.
I order most of my parts from KTM World as well. Shipping is pricey if you only need one or two items, but they are fantastic and easy to get in the phone. - Frank
Really great video Matt, should come in handy for a lot of people. You mention not being able to find the torque specs for the clutch cover bolts, I just found them in the service manual so figured I'd include them here for others that may be doing this. Manual states torque for these screws as 12 Nm (8.9 lbf ft).
You might already know this Matt. Seeing how hard you are on your clutch you might consider keeping 3 old spark plug washers in your tool pack. In an emergency you can install them under the springs to add a little preload enough to get you home.
Great video!! I'm going to save this for when I need to change mine. Great work man. Really appreciate it. Also, I'd love a nice torque wrench!! Thanks.
Hey matt just so you know, you can figure out the torque of a nut by loosening it with a torque wrench, you increase the NM little by little until it pops, IT IS IMPORTANT you check the nut for any glue, if it has glue the measurement is incorrect.
@@advmattI am not opposed to hitting some trails looking for your familiar 390 Adventure! If you are on the Tenere, I should let you know I have no tube changing tools with me to help you. 😜 - Frank
Yes, it does, it happened a out once about every other day until the valves were adjusted. Now it happens about every couple of hundred miles. I think it is due to two issues, valves out of adjustment, and it runs lean to meet emissions.
does this problem have a permanent solution? i'm planning to buy one since it's a good price for an adv bike, but i think i might reconsider my plan...
@@sebmrge I was able to fix it for about 20k miles by getting the valves adjusted. It has came back more recently. The valves are in spec but I have also modified the exhaust which I think is now contributing to the occasional stall. I think if I return to the stock muffler the issues will go away.

Thanks. I really tried to show what I was doing so anyone can follow.

Nice, I could not find any other options. I would have tried that.
It's nice to have someone whos knowledgeable walk through the process.
Thanks Matt!
Glad you found it useful.
Many thanks Mat. I only have about 34000km on mine but you showed me that it's a relatively easy task. Thanks
Glad this was helpful.

Thanks for listing the torque specs. I missed them when I looked. I am going to pin a comment with the torque specs. Cheers.

That is a great tip. I should also carry a small piece of leather string I can install into the clutch pack if I am really desperate. Thanks.
Your videos have helped me so much in learning basic mechanical skills - always great presentation and insight. Thanks for another good one!
So glad to hear these videos help.

Thanks for the great how to vid!
You are very welcome!
Perfect!
Finding a bolt hand tight on my 390 Adventure is normal. I woukd bet a months pay not a single bolt on my bike is in spec! - Frank
Pretty sure you are correct.
Nice job but I would like to see how to clean the gasket. Thanks
I used a straight edged razor to scrap it off. You have to be careful not to gouge the surface.
Hi, Matt. Where'd you buy the gasket? Did you buy a gasket different from OE? I did see it has a KTM brand but it was gray?
I purchased the gasket from AOMC.MX. I purchased the OE gasket, or at least went through the OE parts finder to ordered the one I found.
What's your garage schedule in April/May? I am sure my bike could use one when I am out west! - Frank
Depends on the weekend, but it should be open, if I am not riding in Big Bend NP, or California or Arizona or around Southern New Mexico.

Do you have a long term review for the 390!in the pipeline?
Yeah, this summer I am planning a 30k mile review.
@@advmatt Would love to hear it out...
Does Rekluse make anything for 390 yet?
Yes they do at a tune of nearly $800.
does your bike have stalling issues? (just curious since it is the most issue of this bike)
