    I have no family since my immediate family (mom, dad, and brother) have passed away, along with aunts, uncles, and a few cousins. With that being said, I have to do everything on my own and in the most cost effective way possible. I can't afford to send my vehicle to a mechanic and have it worked on, so I find myself having to work on diagnosing the problem, spending hours researching, and then figuring out how to replace the parts. On top of it all, I'm also disabled (at 34) with Osteoarthritis in both of my knees, so I'm unable to work and that means that what I have to do is find the most cost effective replacement parts possible. I looked up the BCM cost for my 2007 Saturn Vue and it's running about $300. It's also within a few weeks of Christmas, my kids birthdays were at the beginning of the month, too, and I was waiting until this coming weekend to celebrate. I now have to spend the time fixing this car. It's been a nonstop money pit, with having multiple problems within the engine, oil issues, etc. This is seriously the last thing that I need right now. Having an easy, or at least a not severely complicated, removal of a car part where I can remove it myself will make it so much easier to get it done. The funny thing is, my car wasn't running weird or anything until this morning when the light showing a car with a wrench in it came on. That was at 7am. I looked into it, of course, because this is the first time I've seen this light come on. I read that it's a "scheduled maintenance" light. Hm. Okay. I read further and one thing said that it was safe to drive and that it wasn't a big deal. Another thing I read said that it was possible failure of the BCM. At 11pm this evening, I went to leave to go to the gas station. I also have a nail in my tire, fix-a-flat won't keep it fixed, and I can't afford a new tire at this point. So, here I was airing up my tire when all of a sudden, the interior and exterior lights began to flash. I got in the car and tried to drive it home. The power steering went out (which I've dealt with before on my 92 Ford Aerostar cargo van in 2005) and knowing how to handle that, I got it going and headed back home, about a mile and a half away. On my short drive back, I put the hazards on because my headlights failed, the interior lights began flashing, the dashboard lights then began to flash with a clicking sound, and then when I pulled into home, I barely made it into a parking spot when the steering wheel completely gave out and started making noises when I tried to turn it. I popped the hood, checked the wires on my battery, everything good there, and then checked what I could of what knowledge I have. Finally, I had to turn the car off and, already knowing how this would go, attempted to restart the car. No dice. The interior lights come on, but only in a "battery dying" type of way. Everything I've read since has pointed towards the BCM. It seems that a lot of people have gone through the wringer trying to get the issue diagnosed and then fixed, with the problem being in the BCM the entire time. There's a lot of mechanic shops and dealerships that love to gauge someone for what money they can get from them, but I am not one of those people that has a lot of money to begin with, so I rely on others who have had experiences like this and willing to share their knowledge. Thank you, TH-cam. Soo here I am, researching the hell out of how I'm going to do this, and this video is the most understandable and comprehensive that I've found so far. I'm able to do the job, especially when there's a video of exactly where this stupid thing is at and how to get it off and then back on, right at my fingertips. I never thought that I'd be working on my own car, but it seems that with the way things are going, that's what I do.

    don't know Saturn, but boy control, usually handles things like, inside light dimming, integrated alarm, remote opening/closing. Central lock / unlock management. Auto lock when on car starts to move and electric windows control. Some windows also have anti pinch function when the window key has the "one touch" closing option. Well the kind of things that happens inside the car. Some car have several control units, connected together like a computer network to share info.

    first i want to say thanks for posting videos on here, they are helpfull. now heres a question for you: could a bad combination switch on a 2002 saturn vue awd v6 auto, cause no parking lights, no dash lights, fuses are good, the headlamps works fine, but no fog lights, but i am gettting power to the combination switch, and the dimmer switch, but nothing else. the fuses are all good. just happened after i took another switch off an old vue and put it on mine. the old one had 4 wires on it, but two of them are one spot, unlike mine, mine had it on all four. did i accedently short out? they were working the other day.

    Seeing this is Sep 2013 video I am not sure you're still available for inquiries. I have a 1999 Saturn SC1 3Dr Coupe. You stated that the Body Control Module was not used on these 1999 models. I need to find out why my ignition switch sometimes won't work along with not being able to turn off my windshield wipers at times and the turn signals work when they want to? If Saturn didn't have BCM in 1999 models, what is my most likely avenue to find the problems? I am disabled on SSA and can't afford a costly repair.

    • @RichpinTv
      @RichpinTv  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you say the ignition switch does not work are you having a problem turning it to the start position.

    • @allandale3247
      @allandale3247 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RichpinTv There have been times this happens, but much of the ignition problem is that it won't even try to start. I just removed the fuse that runs my windshield wipers and have put RainX on the glass so it alleviates the problem of the wipers not turning off, which was a real problem. With the RainX application I don't have to worry about that problem. I believe you stated that my 1999 Saturn SC1 3Dr Coupe has a Computer of Brain and not the Body/Engine Control Module. If I can find one of those, does it need to be re-coded in any way? When I try to start the car and it won't even click, the dash lights are working, so I thinks it may be the Brain or Computer.I've had a stroke and am a little slower thinking these days. But, I have a friend who will help me with the mechanics part, I just can't afford to buy something that I'm not sure I need. Thank you for responding. I await your reply.

      In a case like this what i like to do is turn the key to start and have someone look at the headlights to see if they dim.If they dim that would suggest that the battery is OK and possible that the stater is bad.Then i would make sure the cables at the battery and starter look good.Just to make sure the starter is bad i like to test the wire from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid to make sure it is getting voltage when the key is in the start position.

    Hey Rich, Is it possible to get to the door blend AC actuator after removing the dashboard? . I have tried to remove the glove box as you suggested but I can't seem to get it to break loose. • @robinscheines6775
      @robinscheines6775 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rich, I tried and I tried and I twisted my back. It Looks like I'll have to completely remove the dashboard and the whole dash assembly to get to it. I just cant get to the actuator from the top or the bottom. If the glove box was like the gen 2 I could reach it but with the gen 3 only the glove box door comes off. There is a plastic box left behind that blocks access to the blower box and actuator, Most of the entire gen 3 dashboard is molded together as one big piece of plastic except for the bezels for the radio, speedometer and air vents

    my 2002 L200 recently started having problems with the power locks....on hot days the locks will, even after i take the keys out and power off the car, go up and down repeatedly over and over. such as what would happen if somebody were pressing lock and unlock very quickly, over and over. they are basically "spazzing out", and they dont stop for hours on end after ive turned the car off. there are no other problems with any electrical systems in the car and, again, this only happens on hot days, so it leads me to believe there is some kind of a short in the BCM or a wire which controls the locks that messes up when the heat causes something to happen.
    would replacing the BCM likely cure this? also, what do you feel the cost should be to have the BCM replaced, including labor? i have been quoted $650 but i believe that to be insane given that the BCM is only about $100, and labor shouldnt take but 15-20 minutes. any help would be greatly appreciated. and i can provide more info if needed.
