@@randyconger8620 Me too, assuming you mean Merrilee Rush’s version. There are so many iconic things about it - the strings, the snappy snare drum and of course, she sings the true notes in a powerful yet understated way. Much more emotional, IMO.
JUICE NEWTON - " In The Heart Of The Night " 80s Country Rock 🎸 Classics Her Voice and Music are super Rockin' Fantastic this is another one of her Amazing Hits.
Have absolutely loved Juice Newton since the 70's. Her iconic long hair and her eyes just draw me in every time, and then her voice just too wonderful. Had a cassette tape that we wore out in the car from just driving around. On the TV show WKRP, they had a poster of her in the background.
Yet another great song played at Jr High School dances done by our very own and local, Merilee Rush & The Turnabouts. Getting me in my 8th-grade feels today Shawn thank you. Standing at the bleachers with my wallflower self waiting on Mike Johnson to ask me to dance. 😘🤩😂
I lost my mother on my 7th birthday(1982). This was a favorite of hers. I played the cassette many times. Aside frome that. An underrated female vocalist.
"Juice" Newton is a pop & country singer, songwriter & musician. Merrilee Rush had a hit in 1968 with the song "Angel Of The Morning". Juice Newton recorded it in 1981. She had a lot of great hits in the 80's such as "Queen Of Hearts", "The Sweetest Thing (I've Ever Known)", "Ride 'Em Cowboy", "Love's Been A Little Bit Hard On Me", "Break It To Me Gently", "Heart Of The Night", "Stranger At My Door", A Little Love", "Restless Heart", "You Make Me Want To Make You Mine", "Hurt," "Both To Each Other (Friends & Lovers)" (with Eddie Rabbitt) etc.
This is a cover. "Angel of the Morning" is a 1967 song written by Chip Taylor and was originally recorded by Evie Sands and first charted by Merrille Rush. It went to number 1 in Canada and number 7 in the United States. In 1981 it was covered by Juice Newton for her sixth studio album Juice. Here's the best version of this song,by Merrille Rush: th-cam.com/video/u4yO35qJxUU/w-d-xo.html
Not a country music fan, but like Juice Newton. However she did little to make her version of Angel of the Morning any different than the original by Merrilee Rush. Perhaps that was a good thing not to turn it in a disco hit or something with a style totally out of the emotional context of the song, like Donna Summer did for MacArthur Park. Yawn...when you keep a song musically within the intent of the writer you do it much more honor than hijacking it because you can't write your own song, or, without listening to the cash register first.
originally by merrilee rush - juice's is ok but merrilee's version just nails it. i remember hearing it for the first time at 15 years old in '68. fell in love instantly.
You should look into the 70's group TAVARES, particularly their song "Heaven Must be Missing an Angel". They just recently had a street dedicated to them in their Hometown of New Bedford, MA
Shawn, I just have to mention “ Little Anthony & The Imperials! “ Hurt So Bad “ is a song by this fantastic group in the late 50’s - 60’s. I want to watch your face during the song. LoL! 👍🩵🩵
This was a cover of Merilee Rush (and the Turnabouts) from 1967 or 1968, can't remember. Both versions are wonderful. It was recorded by others before that, but they never gained any traction in the charts. Merilee's was the first to gain top 40 status. Juice does have more of a slight country or 'Americana' flavor to her voice.
Although she has a pop sound she was marketed as country in the early 80's. Other songs to listen to are "The Sweetest Thing", "Break it to me Gently", "Queen of Hearts" and others.
Her given name is Judith. I prefer Juice and it suits her. She’s one of the most underrated and under-promoted vocalists in history given her talent and vocal prowess. I love that she has the ability to belt out the ballads but she also has a gritty growl around the edges. She was very popular in the early and mis 80’s with hits like “Queen of Hearts” and “Loves Been a Little Bit Hard on Me”. These songs are very playful and catchy. If you want more of her vocal abilities, I suggest first you listen to “The Sweetest Thing (I’ve Ever Known)”. It is amazing. Other ballads are “Break It To Me Gently” and “It’s a Heartache”. Thanks for giving her the attention she deserves.
Juice Newton was a huge artist in the 80's on both the Country and Pop charts. You should react to ""Love's Been A Little Bit Hard On Me" and the Video to "The Queen Of Hearts" is hilarious. I was a big fan of Juice. I would have been a sophomore in High School when this came out in 1981. Can you maybe react to a Kelly Willis song like "I Don't Want To Love You", "One More Time", Baby Take a Piece of My Heart" (Not the Janis Joplin song), or "The Heart That Love Forgot". That one will blow you away. How about a Holly Dunn song like "No One Takes The Train Anymore" I have yet to hear anyone react to that song despite recommendations.

in the early 80s SNL did a filmed piece on the dangerous effects video arcade games were having on young people. they equated it with drug addiction. at one point during the film an "addiction specialist" said, "why not spend your money on an album, like juice newton? for the amount of money you spend on video games you could own a juice newtom record". so to me she will always be a punch line.
This has always been a guilty pleasure song for me. I am a woman in her mid 60's that has never been very sexual, always hidden in a shell but this song really speaks to my inner woman. I love 'that note'.

Merilee Rush first recorded this song in 1968, Juice Newton covered it in 1981. Their deliveries of the song were completely different but each equally good . DO NOT bother with the Pet Shop Boys rendition (1985) - it's beyond insipid. So totally soulless they may as well have sung the alphabet.

Merrilee Rush recorded this song in the late 1960s, which I like just as much as Juice's version more than a decade later.
