My 12yo saved up for this and really enjoyed building and playing with it. He also got the Deep Sea base and modified one of the docking ports on it so this sub could dock onto it, using the big opening at the back. They've got good play value, especially in encouraging him to get creative.
Good kid, I remember saving up for sets. I have the 6075 Wolfpack tower from 1992 saved up all my money and went to the toy store with my mom. And she asked me twice if I was sure that I wanted it. And I really did want it. Never regretted it. And still is 1 of my dearest sets. What you save up for yourself is always something you will be proud of. Great for him!
Well, thats what it is, you put a mini sub in the back, or possibly some planks of wood, and i wish lego added a rear window piece for when the mini sub isnt attached
yeah but you have to factor in that most sets & stores always get 20% off the MSRP (Amazon, Walmart, Target, ...) almost two month after release (sometimes even on release dates). This year just sucks because there is a Lego shortage in general (between manufacturing, shipping, stocking & the increased demand) so everything is MSRP with very few discounts. I am saving up for Black Friday and Xmas, hopefully would able to catch up good deals.
This isn’t my favorite of the wave, but I do love the new angler fish! I hope Lego continues to release new animals molds in the future, they’re always very fun to collect.
Part of the reason the price/volume of stuff is so good, and there are few spare parts, is that there are VERY FEW TINY pieces in the set. Very few 1x1 studs/plates and technic pins, mostly bricks for the sub, and sloped bricks for the terrain.
@@beboop9605 That's how all episodes of the sitcom Friends were named. For example, "The One with the Wedding", "The One with the Hairy Neighbour", "The One with Chandler Stuck in the Toilet", "The One with the Chosen One", and so on and so forth. :-)
I think it's so funny that Lego counts these weird subthemes like ocean, jungle, and arctic as Lego City. It'd be so much more fitting if they created some other line called Adventure or Exploration or something of the sort.
All propellers spin when driving in water, which was a nice surprise for me. For someone growing up with the 90's and early 00's Legos, it is amazing to see this amount of detail for a 5+ set.
The sub's really grown on me. Reminds me of Alvin. Pair this up with the undersea base and that tiny sub from the boat, and you've got one heckuva spread.
HAHA! SO great when Jang pouts after the perfect comedy-timing-pause when the Angler Fish piece bails out "SWIM AWAY!" "Good mood's gone" (Marlin, Finding Nemo) :)
I kinda wish that the colors on the Angler were reversed, where the teeth and eyes would glow, and the body was lime. Although if that were the case, then the lure wouldn't glow, so I guess this design works.
watching this I actually had a lot of nostalgia from when i was younger. I was in elementary school in the late 2000's and that was when i really got into LEGO. The color scheme of the submarine reminded me of the Aqua Raiders line from 2007, as did the anglerfish because that was one of the smaller sets in that theme. (Aside from the bits of red, the dark blue wasn't very off compared to black) The divers' helmets are also a recolor of the ones from LEGO Atlantis, and for some reason the translucent green crystals reminded me of the gems from Mars Mission. The LEGO themes from that time are still some of my favorite. The ones I've mentioned above, Agents, BIONICLE (Gen 1), and Exo-Force have deep roots in my childhood. The overall reminiscent underwater themes and glow in the dark also reminded me of the Barraki. Takadox (still one of my favorite BIONICLE characters/sets) had a lot of glowing parts. I may just be reading too much into the details of this set, but perhaps some of them were subtle references to older themes (i.e. Aqua Raiders and Atlantis), thus slightly adding to my "LEGO" Universe/multiverse theory, where all themes are actually part of the same shared universe. Think about it like this, the Star Wars galaxy is home to all of the things we've seen, just a lot of the tech and stuff of SW lore isn't completely universal. Ninjago might be it's own system in the outer rim, for example. Or all of the medieval themes are just pre-hyperspace worlds. The nexo knights could fit into this theory a lot because they /could/ have found SW tech debris after a space battle and incorporated it into their society. I'm not entirely sure how to fit BIONICLE into the theory yet but for the most part the lore works. Even lego minecraft could be a world where minifigs evolved square heads instead of the standard rounded cylinder.
Welcome to "Blooperville" Jang! That was funny! He he he! Anyway, this set is quite cool, I like underwater themes, there's really not many improvements you can do with this, aside from the back of the sub that's opened, but it does store the little remote sub, so it's not bad, and I would have liked a little bigger underwater terrain with the angler fish, otherwise, very cool set!
Honestly it looks pretty good, I don't really see why its a bad set, other then it might have a bad price per piece. (which I do not have this set, I'm just basing on looks)
I like that they made a submarine that can hold more than just the pilot, that there is a "work" space behind him. I would like to see people maybe add in their own airlock door somehow behind the work area, but still able to dock the ROV. Love that they made the terrain out of bricks and not just a couple BURPs 👍
I got plenty of the subtheme "ocean" These sets are just awesome. got the 2 smaller sets of 2015 the 3 smallest "if you can call it that" of this year and the 1997 big underwater base as well as the set with the whale and the big sub back then. It is my favourite Lego city/town subtheme.
I like this set. Price to volume of stuff is pretty good. I actually really like the angler fish head from Ninjago Movie. That with a light brick is perfect. Or a printed head piece to look like eaten fish/glow in the dark.
The moment when you realise you care about Jang so much that you notice the plaster on his thumb and hope he gets better, haha. Another great review, as always.
The older sets did look better and sleeker with the black as opposed to the red with this year's current line. Not that this looks bad but it seems a tad too bulbous and incomplete compared to the older versions.
I am on the hunt for this set. Unfortunately can’t find it in stores but will probably be planning to get it online. Also two reasons why I’m interested in this set and first off I love the angler fish in the set and also I think the submarine is a nice design because it’s very simple and small but that’s why I’m interested in finding this set eventually.
Your so cool dude you made me start collecting sets and i eventually want to start buliding my own city. Please keep up these awesome videos! And do you think you could bulid a mobile home from your own design? Id really like to see what you could come up with!
I just got mine and I noticed something. I am in Canada and the box is different. The US seems to have push-out panels to get it open and in Canada the box is sealed (taped). I wonder why. Oh and great set, the kids love it.
My only gripe about this is that I wish they would’ve made the rubber bands in yellow. I feel that it’s actually a worse issue than the occasional blue Technic pin. I also wish that they wouldn’t print a satchel on a minifigure versus just a part or something else on the torso instead.
Hey Jang I know I probably won't get a response and that's fine, but I wanted to ask somethin. May you some day be able to review the Lego X-Men vs. Sentinel set that was released back in 2014? I have very fond memories of that set.
Question, if anybody figures out how to get the Deep Sea Diver (Ocean Diver?) polybag set 30370 set in America could you please let me know in a reply to this comment? (if you see this of course lol) I have not been able to find it an any Walmart of Target I have been too recently. I'm currently living in Philly at the moment so maybe it's just not in stock here? I would greatly appreciate any responses to this. Also why doesn't the LEGO shop website usually list polybags? Most have fantastic designs for their size.
The reason it has a remote sub is because the depth angler fish live in is beyond crush depth for a person it probably isn’t that they just wanted a new fish but I’d like to think that’s the reason
I'm in the UK, yes it's £25 tbh it shocked me when Jang said it was $40. I like this set my issue is that i kinda don't really like the little Angler side built. For the sub alone I'd probably pay £20 but just the rock is throwing me off abit
14:30 my favorite Jang moment EVER😂😂😂
Ha ha ha ha 😆
Luckily it's glow in the dark, hit the studio lights and you'll find it :) made me chuckle too :)
that was a very unexpected blooper
That face was priceless!
i wheezed
I like how the anglerfish glows in the dark.
But you know in reality the angler's lure only glows not the body
I like how your name is dinomation
It looked like it was longing for death

Hold UP!

The one with the angler fish is my favorite F.R.I.E.N.D.S episode
Shoutout to the OG Jang music track in this video
The giant anglerfish from the Aqua Raiders line still takes the cake
I like how Lego makes animals unique so you can make them a separate species when you are playing.
That angler fish looks really neat!
This set looks pretty neat
Thanks for a very nice review. I found it informative. I managed to find this set on sale for $20 at a store in Los Angeles.
I like that there aren't theme logos on any of the minifigs like they had with some of the previous city themes.
Love the moment when the Angler Fish slipped off at 14.30! Jang is such a delight and especially in moments like those.
It definitely feels like America is getting the short end of the stick when it comes to the pricing of these sets

“A man who doesn’t have his glow in the dark angler fish, isn’t a man at all.”
Anyone else thought this was another friends set when the title read “The One with the angler fish”
That’s exactly what I though. What’s next, the one with the monkey?
Wut

Shockingly good for a 5+ set. It looks like a 5+ set. But a REALLY GOOD 5+ set.
I love this set and the a new mold for the fish
This is my favourite Lego city set of the underwater city subtheme
Mine is the giant ship
I’m with you. This set it one of the best ones out of this theme.
looks cool - i like the fish

Yooo!! King Nick is heree!! Big fan of all of your work!!

Jang:😐
This looks like a fun set. If it was 30.00, it'd be a no-brainer!

If you buy this at walmart, it costed $32, so even cheaper than what it was thought to be

You can buy the Anglerfish by itself for about $4 from Lego directly
That’s a lot for a single piece

its 10 cents a piece in euro countries. guessing youre us?
Nice to see the return of the grabby claws from Alpha Team: Mission Deep Sea. The line that time forgot.
I always liked the lego crabs they are very simple but nice and they have many uses
I want this for my Underwater section... of my LEGO city

I think the back of the submarine is open to (somehow) connect it to the oceaan exploration base, or maybe an upcoming set.
Nah, it cant connect.
i would like a big submarine base from this theme

Another great review, as always.
Lego should make more deep sea fish like coelacanth. the anglerfish is perfect though
Cant wait to see the razor crest review! :D
anyone else happy to hear the old review music?
I think I'm just getting this and the boat. It looks neat.
I like the model, but I prefer the older submarine from the last deep sea discovery set. Solely based on the open back of this new submarine.
The older sets did look better and sleeker with the black as opposed to the red with this year's current line. Not that this looks bad but it seems a tad too bulbous and incomplete compared to the older versions.
The previous one looked cool but it was trash for being chunky with no cargo space. The Friends set had best sub in recent years
Yaaay now I can give my custom lego civilizations exploration division its own division within ITSELF YAAAAYYY

In Europe this set is about $33USD when you convert. Makes no sense to have this set not be $35. It's a $20-25 sub and a $5 rock with a $5 fish.
