In this week's episode of LIQUOR RUN, Christian and Rolly crack open a bottle of Pinot Grigio and discuss some of the newest additions to the watch shop this week.
The first piece in question is, at retail, a $21k watch - The Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda 1950, a pink gold almost squarish case with flared lugs and a cream dial. And while we could go on all day about how pretty the dial is and how well-designed the case is, it's the movement that is perhaps worthy of the most attention. It's hand finished and features a stunningly finished micro-rotor that contributes to the overall thinness of the watch.
Next, we have two vintage Rolexes. The first is a Day-Date reference 1803, made special by the fact that it features a Spanish day wheel. Along side that, we have a blue dial vintage Air King. The Air King is in such a weird position as a model because it is technically a sport model, by all accounts, yet is often worn as a dress model. It's a weird sort of disconnect between intention and practice.

Great video series! My father passed away about 4 years ago and I only wish I could have had times like this with him. Although not a wine drinker, I really value your dads opinion and his passion for those things he loves. Parmigiani Fleurier make unique, beautiful, high end, quality watches...Very underrated brand. The Kalpa XL 8 days and the Tonda 1950s are two beautiful models that can be had for a very reasonable price..

You mention the micro-rotor movement being made popular by brands like Universal Genève and Patek Philippe. I have a micro-rotor movement in a 1960's Bulova Ambassador. Büren patented the movement in 1954 and it became popular in the late 1950's with their Super Slender line of watches. The movement also appeared in other brands including Hamilton and the Dugena's super etc. Hamilton loved the company so much they purchased Büren in 1966. In a joint venture companies Heuer, Breitling-Leonidas, Hamilton (who now owned Büren) and Dubois-Depraz developed the worlds first automatic chronograph the caliber 11 (Chronomatic) in 1969. Again another micro-rotor movement. Indeed the first micro-rotor movements used by Patek Philippe are derivatives of/& or reworked Büren/Hamilton movements. So from a technical watch geek prospective the Parmigiani Fleurier is at best 1950's copied technology .
OK Tristan Pouw I understand, Christian should have mentioned Büren's historical connect thats all. You shouldn't circumvent a companies past achievements in order to please a modern audience. Patek Phillipe had nothing to do with the development of this movement or its popularity today. Credit should be given to Universal Genève as they released their own micro-rotor movement in 1955, the revolutionary 215. However even they were unable to patent it until 1958 due to a legal dispute with Büren. Hope this clears the confusion. 👍

Don’t know why people complain about T & H prices...he must get paid to source these watches...guarantee authenticity...service them...you are paying for all these things including peace of mind...he not just selling a watch he is selling a service...it you don’t want to pay the price then by all means source your own watch...but remember the vintage watch world is full of land mines...you pay Christian to clear the mine field...and that costs money...in the future I will use his service...even though I have been buying watches for longer than he has been alive I believe he has a great eye and provides a great service...some day we will do business on that very hard to find watch...that I want the peace of mind knowing that he sourced it!

I can only talk of the Pinot Grigio/Pinot Gris from the coastal hills of Monterey County Ca.where I live! Hahn Family Wines puts it this way...In Monterey County where the fruit for this wine grows, cool breezes from the Pacific Ocean slow down ripening and allow the fruit to develop vibrant flavors and brisk acidity. Awesome watch and another killer video, love it when dad is on camera as Rolly & I are about the same age and we both feel and act a little/lot younger, my business is Ag/vineyard related and all my guys are younger than me so after 35 years of being in the business these guys keep me young even though a few have been with me 30+ years and a few more 20+ years but they were all in their late teens or early 20's when they started working for me.
Christian, love the show and glad to see you outside. I have a recommendation regarding audio - your gains could come down, they are peaking on this video in particular, and you could benefit from a boom mic over your heads (off camera) with a near field mic (in conjunction with having more control over your audio gains). Keep up the great work!

Nice Tonda 1950. If I am not mistaken, this is the same watch/movement as the Hermès SLIM. While finish of the movement can be debatable, I think Hermès has done a much better job at packing value and creating an original, instant icon with the SLIM.

Funny thing I went to a local wine shop and was offered a case of this Kris wine for 20 bucks...i was like dang 20 buck it must be trash.. I bought it just because of the name and lable..if nothing else it would look cool having my name on a bottle...but after cracking one open it's a good wine for a PG at that price point! And it makes great decoration in my wine bar! Got to love Kris
