Has Christian & Michael (or friends) ever ranked Vintage Brands ? Have they ever done a video about “Vintage Brands people don’t know about”? I am always trying to learn about Older, maybe discontinued brands to be on the look out for. Not the “big brands”, that everyone knows. What about other Vintage watches / brands the average Rolex/Omega owner doesn’t know about? I am always trying to learn. 👏👏👏
Really glad to see Sinn mentioned. Agreed that their website is a terrible experience but the brand is high value for their position. I've found it a bit frustrating that Sinn seems to get little to no recognition or screen time with popular watch youtubers. They may not have the best presence or marketable achievements but they have remarkably hard wearing watches for real utility purposes while executing great technical innovations to get their product there. I would love to see more content from your team regarding Sinn in the future.
German brands in general are underrated . Sinn , damasko . Hanhart , laco , muhle , tutima etc etc . Everyone seems to only care about lange and nomos .
I just thought the opposite a few days ago: I found it strange that Suisse watchmakers don't use beautiful local languages on their luxury items. French and Italian in my opinion look/sound more classy. I see some German now and then, but thats primarily on German watches I believe. 3 (or 4 if you include Romansh) local languages and they resort to, in my (Dutch) opinion, the boring English...
Kletskoek (in my English opinion) 😉😆. Using French just sounds pretentious, as in; “Pretentious, moi ?!” (see Fawlty Towers) and would like as not be just another excuse to push SRPs to even more ridiculous highs, plus predictable and boring…unless you’re French or Quebecois where obliterating English is a national religion. 😂 But honestly, although I can speak some French and Italian, it would undoubtedly be the least important aspect of any watch design to me. Het maakt niks uit, you might say. In fact for me as a rule the less text on the dial, the better.
English is just the most practical language. Most people speak it these days, especially people looking for expensive watches. You also run the risk of being pretentious/thinking you're better than other brands by not using English. That being said, my fave brand Lange uses lots of German on their dials, so I'm down for more foreign languages being on dials, but it's a tough sell.
@@Voltanaut Yeah but practical doesnt seem to be the main point of expensive watches. Otherwise quartz with a 24hour system wins it everytime. I think they get away without being looking pretentious because, depending on which region they are located, its their own language. You could argue by doing it in a larger language, thats pretentious, because you dont want to look small.
Yea, interesting. I get why brands use English mostly, and that's because it broadens the marketability of the watch to more countries. But I also agree with you in that it would be nice to see some French or Italian (Panerai does include some Italian and my 10 year old Navitimer uses French on the caseback) on more watches. It doesn't need to be every watch a brand makes, but maybe once in a while throw on a "Fab. Suisse" instead of the "Swiss Made" for variety's sake.
Perhaps you missed it. Journe released two watches in 2023 - 1) the incredible popular impossible to get Journe Elegante Titalyt now with a black dial. 2) The impossible to buy without an extensive purchase history, production FFC (Francis Ford Coppola) The first FFC was a piece unique Only Watch from 2022. Please move FPJ to the top of the list where they belong. 🤩
So CW that released 2 game breaking watches for fraction of the price other brands would make them and they are A, but a brand like GC that released 2 watches that are above 35k and look like a strange looking cartier gets S
The Blancpain Air Command is such an underrated watch and its under 50mm lug to lug. If anyone wants to purchase a BP but has issues about their sizes (who doesn't?) then I'd recommend checking that watch out over the FF. I think it's more interesting anyway.
Love Nomos (the lambda in black and gold is honestly a grail piece for me), but I don't get the studio underdog hype at all. Looks like something you'd buy from the gift shop as you're leaving an art museum, or like if IKEA started a watch brand.
Can't disagree about Breguet. They are my favorite brand. Anything with real guichet (sic) and enamel will win my heart, and their cases are something special, but it's a style that just isn't in fashion right now. Don't know if/when it ever will be again, but at least I can enjoy them...and actually afford them, on the used market because of it!
I'd like to hear a deeper dive into Breguet. I would think that the classique and traditions lines would be right up Christian's ally (size can be an issue, I guess). This year they released a stunning minute repeater with a dark enamel dial (a bit big I guess).I realize that there's something missing - the watches really lose value and whoever they market their watches too, I don't ever come across them...
I'm so glad you re-did CW probably will make their own movement soon and they'll still keep prices down, and you'll still be able to pre-order and get your time piece on time 😂. Not working for them...😅
CW and others like it are what have made me, umm, 'struggle', to understand the pricing of the likes of Longines, Baume et Mercier, Oris, etc. The only thing I can figure is they are hoping the name and past glories will cause people to pay the prices.
I think you're quoting the wrong brands. Longines, Baume et Mercier, Oris, etc. are bargains compared to Rolex, Omega, Blancpain, etc. Everything is relative, but the value you find in the middle to lower tier brands or "entry level luxury" brands is phenomenal IMO.
The problem with GS is too many of them! I dont know what they represent other than special and limited editions. Even then I have to know what a lake in nowhere Japan looks like to identify the model.
Does anyone have a link to the small manual-wind version of the Tiffany East West that Michael was talking about at 12:50? I see men's size 3-hand automatics and women's "mini" 2-hand quartz models.
21:08 It may not be the “same” but there sure as hell aint no 15-20k difference and anybody trying to convince you there is, is just salty you got an insanely beautiful watch for an actually reasonable (within the watch world) price.
My wife and I walked into an AD and saw Trilobe there for the first time and I asked the lady at the counter how does that even work? Both our reactions to the watch spinning happened simultaneously... and we were like... "wow!". They are now a grail watch for me.
Great content. Love the one-liners. In 2024 what else does CW need to do to hit “S” given their P4P quality/value and Glashütte Original to be “A” given their diverse range (senator, Sea Q, Panomatic Lunar & Inverse, 70s chrono, 60s etc)? In contrast, is Nomos, innovative and great value as they are, a one trick pony (albeit a multi coloured /sized one)?
Todat's Breguet moves slowly and deliberately. They launched the new versions of Type 20 and Type XX with all new movements containing new mechanisms within that they filed patents on. Underneath their traditional looks, Breguet is developing new modern calibres. Easy to overlook and downplay since Breguet's marketing is underwhelming.
Uncool guys ... UN-cool, what you said about Breguet. I don't care about how they did this past year ... They've been around since the mid 18th century ... They don't need to update their collection every single year. Their pieces are testaments of high horology; and I don't think that's even debatable at this point. Other than that, loved the video. Keep'em coming, guys!
Could not agree more. Hyeks revival of Breguet and their use of traditional watchmaking such as guilloche was a masterstroke and is still very much a jewel in the Swatch Groups crown.
You pronounced Une Folle Journée like you said FP Journe, and that’s fine. I’m French, I don’t expect the whole world to be able to pronounce my language perfectly. Also: The exaggerated laughs and facial expressions are Japanese TV level (I’m joking, I mean no disrespect).
I am French, too. And I find it offensive that they don't even bother to try to pronounce it correctly when this is literally a watch channel dedicated to watches.
Now this is a great vid! Not that the part 1 was bad (great , of course), but this is far more interesting discussion and even exposed to a couple new brands! I WANT a Tiffany Co East West!
The problem with Grand Seiko is with their logo. The "GS" and "Grand Seiko" fonts are different and clash. Either use the "GS" logo or use the "Grand Seiko" text on the dial but not both. Furthermore, use the same font! Ugh, it's so tacky.
Dude are you getting paid by Sinn or are you lacking knowledge. How can you say lamania based Speedmaster Professional is same as Sinn. Do you know lamania movement also used by Patek, Vacheron, Roger Dubuis... Best brands, get informed!
27:03 why is it that we're excited/impressed with titanium in 2024? Citizen and Seiko have literally been cranking out watches made of Ti for some 30 years now. It's weird.

Always a delight with Christian and Michael 👍
Nomos is S for having in house movements unlike Sinn, also having sizes from 35mm to 42mm to fit everyone
I love the Gerald Charles Maestro Squelette. The movement and the finish are just fantastic.
Glashutte Original PanoReserve in rose gold - my grail watch, along with the Lange Model 1815 in rose gold.
Forget skeleton watches. I like to be able to tell the time when I look at a watch. Kinda funny that way.
Welcome back Michael!

Let’s see if they missed Kudoke, Holthinrichs, Laventure, Ophion, Lederer, Haldimann, Parmigiani, Formex, ZRC, Serica, Gronefeld, Zeitwinkel, Naoya Hida, Weiss, Horage, or Minase…😏

I dont understand, why would you need to buy a daytona to scratch the tonga itch? They're so different?? What does sinn have to do with a speedmaster?
I can’t believe you didn’t bring back everyone’s favorite watch brand, Raymond Weil.
The Parmigiani minute rattrapante is such an S tier watch though. Such a classy, elegant, and usable complication
