Cornering the Last Great Deals on Parmigiani Watches. VP

  • A few years ago, several collectors were able to get top quality watches by a famous watchmaker, Michel Parmigiani. Too many Parmigiani Fleaurier watches were not the look or design that many wanted, and as a result the secondary market was flush with brand new watches at a fraction of the MSRP. However, as more and more collectors and others discoveed these hidden gems, and Parmigiani began to create more popular models, the well of great deals began to dry up. Here are three remaining ones that I was able to locate that are still great buys.

I've commented a number of times, that Kalpa you're wearing is my favorite watch from your collection. The color is special as is the shape - even the bracelet isn't standard fare.

Hey J Tee, thanks man. It was one of those unloved models that I got a great buy on. When its stem came out, I sent it to the US Parmigiani Service Center in Miami, and its been like new ever since. Service was not cheap (about $1k), but worth every penny. Take care, Bill

I am a Parmigiani owner and I have felt totally spoiled by both of the references I have owned. It is hard to explain the nuances of both fit and finish that characterize Parmigiani watches. Parmigiani is now run by Guido Terreni who was one of the architects of the revival of Bulgari through the development of the key Octo Finissimo references. Mr. Terreni is now guiding Parmigiani into higher level sports/dress watches of distinction which is an area in which Parmigiani lagged. He is not throwing the baby out with the bath water but pre-2017 references have a lushness of design and quality that were the direct result of Michel Parmigiani’s vision and high standards. It is likely that no cost accountants were allowed to have any influence at Parmigiani Fleurier when Mr. Parmigiani was in control. For those who think that PF is a small obscure brand, PF is the high horology division of one of the most comprehensive fine horology component mini-conglomerates in the world with a business to business presence in high horology that is second to none. PF is owned 75% by the Sandoz Foundation and 25% by Hermès who is both a PF supplier and customer.

That's exactly the way I feel about the Parmigiani watches I have ... spoiled for a lot of other watches with higher prices and lower horology. 😉 Take care, Bill

I now, as of last Friday-- have a representative of the all the "High Horology" in my shoebox. I can't get them as accurate as the iPhone, or my Grand Seiko, Spring Drive. Time zones haven't been an issue for me, because I can ask a local, "Hey, Mac, what time you got?"
I've learned from your channel and admire your passion.
It's "time" for me to diversify and to continue my journey into the world of antique, split bamboo Fly-rods. The labor theory of value, like time pieces is high and I find the art in them too.
Come to think of it, they're just a stick that can be used like the original time piece. An upright one in the ground, mark the end of the sticks' shadow; as the earth rotates the shadow shifts and a compass/ sextant can be used to determine angles, minutes and seconds in the navigational manner. Equation of time = mean solar time - (apparent solar). -21. 0r + 29 seconds from earths elliptical pathway leap year and so forth.
Sorry just thinking as I type. t = d/s which means time equals distance divided by speed.
There you have it. A compass the ultimate timepiece. Throw a strap on one and that is a thing of Art, Science and Value Sir.
When you were a pilot in the air and had to choose between a watch or a compass what would it be?
As you can See Mr. Sanders, mechanical wrist watches will gradually follow the same path as the pocket watch. Nice, some very nice indeed, but largely obsolete and as younger folks grow up without exposure to anyone walking around with a sundials on their wrist they will become more and more just antiquated jewelry.
For reasons I can't understand, it seems watches, once a necessity with a fashion or jewelry aspect to them, are becoming more and more just jewelry or pretense and lack any tangible necessity hither to an apocalypse. Most keenly for those with XY chromosomes. For the
XX-ers diamonds will remain their best friend.
Think about it, even in your circle How may men do you know that carry a pocket watch, have a spare clean handkerchief for a Lady in need of one or wear a dress hat when outdoors. 50 years ago it was all commonplace.
    Cheers Mate.

I attended one of the wine and cheese affairs at HSNY and a Gentleman there told me a joke that I'm sure that you've already heard, as I am a neophyte in this arena. It was something along the lines about the difference between we watch collectors and Amelda Marcos and her shoes, difference being that she actually needed to wear shoes, for all the reason humans do, yet watch collectors simply collect not for themselves, but to pique others.

@@watchartsci All in all Bill, It's good clean fun and I really do like your content. I haven't seen all your videos, but what I have watched enough to tell you've got a deep reservoir of knowledge and enthusiasm for the subject.
My interest in mechanical watches is sort of new. I am a self taught gunsmith and enjoyed building a collection and working on them and realized that there may be a transferable aspect from firearms into watches.
I know from the gun collecting world there is set of "personality traits" that go with the collector of them. I can see what a guy has and infer fairly accurately other things about him. Others, I'm sure do that about me and would classify my as a "fuddy-duddy." I'm starting to get the same vibe in the mechanical watch world. I suppose that is the case any avocation.
Good work Sir. I enjoy what you share about your collection and insight.

Anyone can make a watch and try to sell it for a super high price but then if you can afford those super high prices you won’t be looking at PF.
