  • My Toyota Corolla Hatchback was beginning to exhibit a slow engine crank... The battery was over 4 years old, so it was time to replace. Here's the step-by-step process on how to replace your battery.

    Does changing the battery yourself run the risk of a computer malfunction of some sorts for the car?

    • @BIsForBudget
      @BIsForBudget  21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Snuffles, I've changed the batteries on numerous cars and have not had any major issues. Occasionally, I've had to enter the security code for my radio, adjust the time or re enter the presets for my radio stations. Not a biggie. I do have a video on a Memory Saver product that keeps power to your car during battery swaps, so it keeps your settings if you want to check that out. That said, all my cars are pretty standard, (Ford, Toyota, Honda) So, I can't speak for all cars, or high end cars.

    I wanted to thank you for the tutorial, I just replaced the battery on my Corolla. But I wanted to mention, for the model year 2020, the H5 grouping is too big. A 2020 takes an H4. I measured the H5 and all the dimensions are the same, expect it’s an inch longer. Just thought I would add my 2 cents in case anyone else with a 2020 Corolla needs to change their battery. Thanks again 👍

      You're probably ok now but the factory manual states that the Steering Sensor Zero Point Calibration needs to be performed after a battery disconnect. Not doing so affects the Lane Control, Pre-Collision in gas models and the Lighting System in those equipped with AFS and EXT.

    Do you know if the 2020 Corolla XSE requires a different battery type? I went to 4 different Sam's Clubs and one Auto Zone and they would say they had the battery in stock, but once they opened the hood and saw the OEM battery they would quickly say they don't have the battery and would refuse to touch it. I ended up at Walmart of all places today and they used this same battery used in the video, installed it and it started/worked fine and I didn't notice any updates needed to the computer to my car? Does it matter if it's an AGM battery for an XSE? Has anyone else had this reaction when they would take their car for a battery replacement?

    • @BIsForBudget
      @BIsForBudget  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi surfsexsea! That's interesting. I knew which group size/specs I needed, so I just pulled the correct battery out of the rack at Walmart. The batteries are manufactured by Johnson Controls, which I've had good experience with in the past. My Corolla is an SE, but I didn't find anything out of the ordinary with the battery. The factory battery wasn't AGM, so I opted for a standard battery. Maybe the module above the Positive Terminal threw them off? (shrugging shoulders).

    • @surfsexsea
      @surfsexsea ปีที่แล้ว +1

      YES! I was thinking the same thing! Either that or the white color of the original battery that came with the car.

      H4 only available at the dealership in my area
