Great review! Do you know the difference between GT-110R and GT-120 models? GT-110R comes with regular butane adaptor, but 120 doesn't. I have GT-120 and I'm unsure whether I can get an adaptor from Amazon to use the torch with regular butane.
Hi, great question. We're not that familiar with the difference between the two models you mention but as you state, it looks as though the 110R comes with the butane/CB adapter. Looking at them, they seem to have the same specs, handle, etc. the only difference appears to be the adapter. We're not able to order or view any specs on our dealer portal for the 110R so that indicates it's likely a JP only model, with the 120 being the Snow Peak USA variant. I'm guessing US regulations or some state specific regulations make it difficult or prohibitive to sell the 110R. My personal torch is an older version (not sure model #) of the SP torch and it does NOT have a handle (the fuel canister serves as the handle) but it did come with a canister adapter and was originally purchased in the US. Our recommendation would be to find a used torch on eBay or somewhere and verify it has the adapter you are looking for or as you mention perhaps there is a generic third party OD to CB canister adapter out there. Good luck getting your torch configuration just right and happy camping!
Nice idea, but the second you lean over to light campfire, torch goes out. It must be kept upright with torch face at angle upward. My torch does not work like your torch.
Thanks for the review. Just wondering if the torch stays on when it's tilted downwards or upside down (I read older reviews where it goes out)? Does it function well when used with other isobutane brands and with the included butane fuel adapter?

I haven't noticed any issues with the torch as it's tilted and angled down, in fact in my experience the flame actually gets stronger as (I assume) you're getting more dense fuel. I don't think I've fully inverted the handled version but my personal SP torch is older and w/o the handle and so I'm basically always using it upside down (holding the canister). No inversion issues for me, but that doesn't mean others haven't had issues, I just haven't seen it. I am usually using it with the valve nearly or fully open, and I do 'prime' it for a few seconds after lighting it. The fuel line in the torch needs to heat up to properly vaporize the gas into the torch. If you light it and start torching right away you might have some intermittent issues until it heats up while you're using it, so that could play into what others are describing. I've used it with a number of different brand's fuel canisters and haven't noticed much of a difference, its a pretty raw combustion :). I use the vertical butane canisters pretty often with the adapter instead of iso because I generally find them cheaper and more available locally than iso. They're also quicker and easier to attach than the threaded iso. I've had great results using butane fuel and the adapter. LMK if you have any other questions and enjoy your takibi time!

I have one of these torches and holding them upside down makes them significantly stronger. Most modern fuel canister gadgets work up to 33% better upside down.
These are like the flint sparkers from chemistry class! They are also often used in welding so you can usually find them at welding or hardware stores. Lately we’ve been picking them up at Harbor Freight. You can find them online too, just search for flint striker or spark torch lighter. Happy camping!
I feel like it might be more workable for backpacking with the handle removed. Looks very similar to the Fire Maple FMS-706. Which one do you feel is more powerful?
Hi Fred, thanks for your question. I'm not familiar with the Fire Maple, and I haven't used it in person so I can't give you a hands on recommendation other than I've used the Snow Peak for many years and have been very happy with it. Looking at the specs alone, Snow Peak claims 3500 kcal/h which is right at about 4070 W and the Fire Maple claims 4400 W. Assuming both are measurements are accurate and similarly applied, the FM would be a little more powerful in terms of raw energy output. I've never found the SP to be lacking in energy output for all of my applications, if anything when wide open it burns through fuel a little too fast! Personally I have the older Snow Peak version which doesn't have the handle at all. It's a little more cumbersome to use as you have to hold the fuel canister to direct the output. I find it easier with narrow butane canisters vs. the wider isobutane canisters on my older version. I also notice that the design is different on the older version with a longer 'neck' between the canister and the torch cap on the older version. The older SP version actually looks a lot like the Fire Maple in terms of the 'neck' length and angle. The newer Snow Peak version is definitely safer and more comfortable to use with the handle, but as always there is a trade off in weight savings. Feels solid and safe, and the weight is perfect. Considering its a 1/5 the price, I feel it's a better buy over the Folding Torch, especially for backpackers.
