Brake flex hose tool

In this video, I show you a tool I made to remove and reinstall flexible brake hoses for drum brake cars only. This tool will not work on flexible brake hoses for disc brake calipers. This tool is also for the front brake flex hose only, not the rear brake flex hose.

Great idea, my friend. With respect to that irritating angle, I couldn't agree more about wondering if the hoses were made tight enough into the wheel cylinder. Over the years I've broken more than one off trying to be sure. It's just one of those small but very critical requirements. Mega-safety and all that.

Thanks Nick. This is a great tool that makes a tough spot (to get to) manageable. As you said, several extra long 5/8 sockets available for under $10.00 US.

Nick. Good idea. It is a lot like an O2 sensor socket. I got my 65 out of the barn for the season and took it for a long drive I say this every spring. Damn this is a comfortable ride

Hey Tim, Im afraid to drive mine because of the vapor lock issues. You'd think a Thunderbird specialist would be able to cure these problems. I an defenseless against crappy gas!!!

Usually I'd use a crow's-foot flare-nut wrench, on a long wobble extension, for that situation. But in that particular application, it looks like the spindle and backing plate won't allow clearance for even just setting a crow's-foot on the hex, let alone room to rotate it. So your solution is much more elegant. Excellent suggestion! I wonder what tool Ford specified for that task. Maybe one of their 'special' tools? If so, it'd be cool to see what it looked like. Maybe just like yours!

Hey Goth, thank you. That is my special tool number 42,556. Clearly I've made many. Yes, the crows foot would normally be the tool but there is just no room so this worked out great. No stress on the flex hose fitting and you can get it Goot-n-tight as the Germans say. Unfortunately it took me 45 years to finally make it.

Hey Pieter, when did you send them, if it was the last few days then I didnt get them. It has been a long time since I purchased a Thunderbird windshield but I think they are around $500 not including the seal or installation.
