They will do whatever they want anyways. The problem is we have dumb drivers taking any trips. That justifies the pay. The more we educate drivers to not just say no but he'll no, the bigger the issue will be for Uber/Lyft. Don't be afraid of them. We are Independent Contractors and they legally cannot make you accept a trip. My Uber Acceptance is 0% because they have been trash for over a year. I still go online and check but I'm not working for garbage pay out of desperation.
Uber has already started. They've shaved my fares several times in the last few weeks due to "trip details changed" and I've had to call each time to get the upfront fare reinstated. This is the end of me trying to "shave" either miles or time. Because when you do, Uber will decide the money you saved is THEIRS.
Then you get the "Have you been speeding?" message one the app. Yes Uber, yes I have been speeding. I do not F'ing work for you when no one is in my car AND your insurance doesn't cover me either. So STFU and mind your business.
You're right about it being market dependent. In LA shaving 5-10 minutes off a trip can increase my hourly rate by double digits and those few extra miles easily pay for themselves.
Houston here. Lyft is pretty Good now about showing alternate routes. Especially now that Lyft won't let you just go ahead and use third-party navigation stuff in the app like Google maps and stuff like that. I have one of those foldable phones and so I can run Lyft or Uber on left of the screen and then run Google maps on the right side of the screen when I need to. Sometimes once I pick up the customer I will look at the destination and as long as I know the exit that I have to exit off the highway then a lot of times that helps me just because I won't have to rely on any particular navigation method at all other than just my own experience. It is also a big help if you know where all the entrances and exits are to those express lanes. There are not the same thing as the toll roads because toll roads have entrances and exits that do you actually show up on all the maps but the express lands where they have very few entrances or exits because they're just one lane wide and they change directions at certain times of the day for inbound and outbound. Those one lane express lanes don't show up on Google maps or in Lyft or Uber and I know that's from experience big cuz I'll be in the express lane and it'll keep telling me to take certain exits and I'm like I can't exit here I got a concrete wall to the right of me lol so that's been my biggest key is I know if I pick up somebody at a certain location and they're going all the way to downtown during a short time of the day I will already know that I can just express lane all the way through there and get so many congested bottlenecks on the regular part of the highway. How's the found that most passengers that experience that with me do my surprise they say no other driver has ever gone in those lanes before and I tell those past years they just are getting in with an experienced drivers is all and that happens. And I'm not saying anything bad against drivers who don't know those entrances the exit to those express lines because it takes time to learn us and it takes a desire to learn nose sometimes you have to go in them when you're just out driving on your own so that you know where all the exits and entrances are. Here in Houston the express lanes have designated exits and entrances that are actually labeled with the airport names so you know for sure how to get on and off those express lanes from the airports.
The cars I have been driving get about 40 to 37 MPG a little over 400 miles per tank and only about $22 - $24 to filler up and because I am a distance driver here in Minnesota Time and the number of rides I give is more important than mileage. Like this Sunday early morning around 2:30am I will start from my driveway and get back-to-back trips with mostly no traffic until 11am - Shaving as much time to the next rider is key for me especially getting past traffic lights and yes watching for shorter routes - Next month I will pass 35,000 rides in less then 8 years and I a still finding ways to save time .
Shaving time makes more money for me. Most routes you can only shave a few tenths of a mile off. Also, if the shorter route has more street lights or traffic idling is not free
You have the best videos from the rideshareguy. Clear and make sense. 8 year driver. Memphis. I typically go for time over miles. The shortest distance is quoted that way so i reject those because of upfront pay.. The route will show to go down Lamar or Poplar and hit every red light inbetween downtown and east memphis. No, and I wont make a dollar more for going the correct way. I reject these rides. Im always looking for $1-$2 per mile on anything over 10 miles and $1-$8 per mile on the 1-5 miles trips. Dont work for less. Uber has gotten so greedy. I am boasting a 0% acceptance rate for those clowns at Uber and over 60% acceptance for Lyft. Its all about the money not the rewards.
I go to save mileage. Most of the time (no pun intended) the shorter route takes only about 2 to 3 mins longer but it can save multiple miles sometimes. Usually it happens for example the upfront fair estimates 5 miles but the GPS I use (Google Maps) shows 8 miles because it wants me to take the highway. But not driving 3 extra miles to save 2 mins. And Lyft refuses to pay me extra if I take the longer mileage route. As long as the time remains the same Lyft does not care. Occasionally I had arguments with people on the route to take because the rider is in a hurry. I tell them sorry. My car and my gas. Should not have ordered an Uber/Lyft at the last min. Once I had a route going 4 miles vs 6 miles on highway and the time was exactly the same. The highway was all backed as there was a 9 min slow down according to the GPS. But the 4 miles goes through city traffic. I took the city route because time did not matter. The lady gets mad at me and complains the whole way and does not understand why I didn't take the highway. I try to explain the highway is backed up and would have added unnecessary additional miles. But she kept pushing to take that route. Entitled riders.
It does and it doesn't.. Trips that show me the 'dumb way' are priced at that mileage. I either reject them because I'm not going to hit my brakes that much over taking the Interstate or the price is too low that I will reject the ride. Know what is worth your time. Safe travels!
I take the safest and least stressful route. You dont want to take routes that will cause more stress such as traffic, traffic lights, damaged roads, etc
Yup since they want to pay upfront fares I no longer take the quickest route, I take the shortest route and no problem explaining this to a rider questions it
Are you saying that you would take the shortest route even if it was a traffic jam? So wasting time but getting less miles on your vehicle? If so that wouldn't make sense, as you would also be reducing your earning time and potential.
I found a better route to get to the passenger on uber. And the rider canceled thinking i was driving away from the pick up location. And uber flagged me for provoking passenger/rider to cancel for a cancelation fee🤦🏾♂️

Not a super valuable discussion without numbers to back any of it up. Comments are full of people hard supporting one over the other. Shaving miles saves money. Shaving time increases income. Unless you're willing to take the time to actually calculate the end result, you're just believing whatever your gut tells you to believe. Even in the video, you showed actual miles saved, but then when discussing shaving time, you simply say you don't bother and give generalized nonspecifc justifications for it. Would love if someone actually committed to an in depth analysis on the topic.
That is what is happening here in Vegas. I have had that conversation with Uber on more than one occasion. Uber says it has the right to adjust the fair if the time or distance changes from the offer sent.
You’re not working with Time It isn’t all about time and mileage. It’s about what you get paid at the end of the day spin as much time with your customer to milk them out of every dollar let me show you how we need one more interview. How do I make more and chips casino chips in cash tips than any other driver in the United States. A guarantee I can show you.
What do you prefer?

Some things should be kept to yourself because they're going modify the pay if we shave
They will do whatever they want anyways. The problem is we have dumb drivers taking any trips. That justifies the pay. The more we educate drivers to not just say no but he'll no, the bigger the issue will be for Uber/Lyft.

@danieltriplett3685 preaching to the choir.. My acceptance rate is 19 but uber will throttle when it's not busy..
Uber has already started. They've shaved my fares several times in the last few weeks due to "trip details changed" and I've had to call each time to get the upfront fare reinstated. No, they won't.
Drive fast to pick rider's up and slow when driving them. That's shaving!
That's what I do
Then you get the "Have you been speeding?" message one the app. Yes Uber, yes I have been speeding. I do not F'ing work for you when no one is in my car AND your insurance doesn't cover me either. So STFU and mind your business.

Just enlarge the Uber map up and you usually can see a shorter route, the only problem is it doesn't stay enlarged which is a complaint I have!
Here in Wisconsin Google maps and waze are no longer an option in the lyft app
I stopped driving Lyft because of that here in Minnesota
I typically go fast in route to pick up, then go slower with riders and it works for me
If u shave miles lyft will adjust to pay you lesser
That never happens to me
You have the best videos from the rideshareguy. Clear and make sense.

Id rather shave time especially driving a 2013 i can care less about miles. If i drove a newer car i might prioritize miles
This
In order to make money u need to play with time not the miles
@@danyfernandez9888 And as I've said previously there are ways to get reimbursed for the miles but not the time.

There goes my theory that the algorithm always calculates the shortest distance.

@moali68 when time comes to fix your broken down car you'll understand that miles is more important than time..
@ADAN23916 🤪 I've been doing this almost 10yrs, I think I'll be alright there sport
@moali68 there's a fine, I'm not going 5-6 miles to save 8 minutes. There's a few factors but within 10min i take the shortest route
I found a better route to get to the passenger on uber. And the rider canceled thinking i was driving away from the pick up location. And uber flagged me for provoking passenger/rider to cancel for a cancelation fee🤦🏾♂️
