Great review. This whole "cheap overnight electricity" thing needs to come with a big disclaimer IMO. Firstly, at the moment there's only 1 electric supplier in the UK which offers an overnight tariff. Secondly, they charge 50% more per kWh for the rest of the day, which basically means that can be paying the same amount as a regular tariff at the end of month. That said, even on a regular tariff, you will still be paying just 25-50% compared to diesel or petrol
Just got a 64kWh version in 2022 and to me there's still nothing that compares to it. Incredible range, great quality (clearly superior to VW ID3 and the sorts - just listen to those doors closing!), very very practical, more than enough power with its 204HP... It makes a TM3 look incredibly boring with no buttons and that huge weird screen in the middle :)
Please, is it possible to turn off the melody after starting and then after switching off? It's incredibly annoying and I'm also terribly annoyed by the beeping of the unbuckled belt. Then also the sound of the vex is very annoying. Please advise
Glad to see the reviewer moved to full size reviews in addition to behind the wheel! Great job. Only thing I'd change is less of the reviewer facing away from the camera in some of the side shots of the car.
It’s so nice to see a review of a car not presented by some old guy with a suit on. This is so informative and also relatable. The Top Gear old man way of car reviews is dead. I want a nice looking chap who doesn’t mind having a laugh and joke while also really knowing his stuff. I’ll definitely be looking at going electric after this review. Thanks a lot Mr Tom
A fair review but for anyone interested I am sharing the long term ownership experience on my channel ‘Kia e-Niro Diaries Encore’. Why on earth do reviewers bother to talk about 0%to 100% or 0% to 80% charging times!? I live in France and took delivery of mine in March 2019, one of the first batch into the country. I have never, ever got below 9% SOC and that was at the end of a long journey where I knew I would easily get home. Typically we plug in once a week at no lower than 25% and take it to 80%. We are retired and have never bothered with a home charger, simply using the domestic socket in the garage. The lowest we have ever arrived at a DC rapid charger on a long trip was 17%, so typically we are stopping for 30 minutes to add 120 km of range to finish off a journey. We have done trips to Switzerland, Germany and the UK from our home in South West France and never had any show stoppers wrt public charging. Few cars can match the e-Niro in terms of range and space at the price. Can report at 57,000 km it has been faultless so far.
A larger battery doesn't mean "slower charging times". It means it will take longer to charge fully, but I could plug this in for the same length of time as my i3 and get more range added because it has faster charging. Keep hearing this, and it's misleading and might put some people - in fact, this car has double the potential charging rate of the i3. If I plug it in at home (13a socket) for 12 hours I'll get more or less the same range for that time as with the i3; I just won't have charged it fully.
I see you left the charging bungs hanging out when you shut the charge flap, I have see a few other EVs with the whole charge door left open including MG ZS
Indeed. Physical buttons all the way. Non-physical buttons on for touch screen. Physical buttons for all else. Even BMW messed up iDrive in the new i4. The old simple iDrive was leagues better. Only change it if it's better, not just different. Anyway...
12:20 the glossy material is one thing I don't like about the design. Black gloss isn't much loved in the car world. Every reviewer complains about it. Why? Because it scratches if you look at it wrong and it's a finger-print magnet.
Re USB, why would you want a USB C socket in the car even if your phone has a USB C socket you need a lead to go between a power supply and the phone AND a USB C to USB C cable is very very rare, 99% of all charging leads as Std USB to USB micro/mini/c etc
Test drove one of these the other day, its alright , bit dated looking inside now and the reverse camera , the image looked like something I had on my phone 15 years ago.
Please, is it possible to turn off the melody after starting and then after switching off? It's incredibly annoying and I'm also terribly annoyed by the beeping of the unbuckled belt. Then also the sound of the vex is very annoying. Please advise
Sorry to hear that! Try this: Go to the SETUP menu on your vehicle's infotainment system. Select General. Choose Media settings. Then, select Radio/Media Off at vehicle start-up. If you have any further issues or need more assistance, you might want to consult your vehicle's manual or reach out to a Kia dealership for additional support 👍
@@rivervalegroup i am coming from a 2004 Mercedes 350 ML. its the same look im used to that wood look just like the old car. but the door handles are not metal like a mercedes. but the aircon on when the engine is off is amazing and wins it in 30 degrees most of the time in hong kong. great video im not a fan of the new look so this is the one for me
@@rivervalegroup Drove a 4+ t the weekend and was quite impressed, been looking around for the last few weeks and it was a toss up between this and the VW id3, the ID3 now has a 51 week lead time, so not that attractive, and even though it seems to have a swanky infotainment system its very laggy and buggy, being a software engineer I could never live with this. I took my daughter on the test drive too and her feedback was that it has great cup holders on the back seat. Based on the feed back and approval from her indoors a used purchase is in the books in the next 6 months.
Good luck with your insurance company when you rear end the car in front if you think level 3 will bring you to a complete halt IT WON'T! When in level 3 if. you want idriving, pull the left paddle back and HOLD IT! THEN you will come to a complete halt in level 4!! I do wish these reviewers would go into the car's details in full depth before doing a video.
A 'panoramic' sunroof? It looked fairly standard to me. If it wasn't truly panoramic then this is the 2nd time an OSV 'presenter' has made such a basic and careless error. Unacceptable.
£38,000 to get a similar spec of my petrol car is not achievable. Cost of the wall box £850.00 approx. Change the main fuse on the fuse board. I don't have cheep over night electricity. These are not insurmountable. Go to Exmoor on holiday & there are no 50kw charging stations only 7, 13 & 22kw. Wasting my holiday waiting for the car to charge. 13 amp socket well that is a joke for charging time. When they can make the interior less plasticky with realistic charging times & prices. We have the infrastructure in the UK & 2/3 of our electric is not produced by fossil fuels then & only then people might buy them. At the moment they are too expensive, take too long to charge & in rural communities completely impractical.
Hi Nicky, thank you for sharing your thoughts. Sorry to hear that you're not yet in a position to go electric. We have all the advice and info you need on our Electric Vehicle Hub: www.osv.ltd.uk/electric-vehicle-hub/
Live in a rural community in South Devon, just bought mine, same colour and spec as this one. Of all the cars I’ve tested, including Tesla’s model 3, this was the best compromise. It’ll do most things my old Volvo estate can do, and everything I need a car to do these days. Oh, just checked, there’s a few DC fast charge points on Exmoor, not like you’d need one every day.

Just bought one. Most complicated dashboard Ive ever experienced still can’t set overnight charging.

How long is the 3 pin cable that comes with?
The 3-pin charging cable that comes with the Kia e-Niro is typically around 5 meters long (approximately 16 feet).
